My name is John, I once had a fight with my girl Mary Jo. We didn't speak for months and it got to the point where I thought it was all over for sure. One mid afternoon I ask the Lord to give me a sign if she still loves me for I had enough of the pain and confusion. After shedding a tear or two, I turned on the radio and it was playing "missing you". I thought for a second, Is this the sign? Just as I came to my senses heard the DJ say "...John Waite". I got you message my Lord, loud and clear.
The 80'zz were great, the music was brilliant, you didn't get hung for drink/driving,and the police didn't have helicopters for speeders......... p.s.this song is brilliant.........
Great song... Especially remember driving home in 1994 from a weekend ski trip at Snowshoe Resort with our family and a dear friends son. Slightly changed the lyrics to "I ain't dissing you" and all of us enjoyed a few miles of singing along in full lyrical focus....

Oh the memories... Ok, there goes my age! Cruzin down main street top back, radio blarring John Waite, this song. Checkin out the girls. Picking up my GF from work at 1am. Yeah baby those were the days! Charish your days guys! It's a quick ride!
It was 1979 and my friends and I were graduating from high school in a beach town just south of Los Angeles. The Baby's rocked our world and John Waite rocked mine. I knew every word of every song. My best friend bought me tickets for my birthday, we were seated in the front row. John Waite actually placed the microphone next to me to sing a line in "Head First". I was in such shock, that I couldn't sing let alone speak. He was cool about it. Now, 30 plus years later, he is still in my heart.
John Waite, in my esteemed opinion (I'm not humble but working on it!) has one of the most magical male voices in the entire universe. His voice still sends me to the outer reaches of the galaxy and back. If by chance, one fine day, I should meet him, I will thank him for some of the best memories of my life. I can't wait for his new album. I also hope he plays in San Diego very soon.
its crazyy because iwas born in 93' an although i like todays music i appreciate a good songg from the 80's or 90's true enought they had a few flukes but music had a hell of alot more substance back then.! absolutely love this songg.!!!!
i lived in the 80's , graduated high school in 85 and when i heard this song on that commercial i almost cried, its so beautiful i knew it would be here....lol. and yes they still told stories in songs then. reading the words to this song, its not the same if you dont know the words.......
I am almost 14 and my dad first introduced me to this song when i was four. even tho i was not born in the 80's I LOVE THIS SONG LIKE I WAS THE FIRST ONE TO HEAR IT!!!!
@wolvereine113 Could not agree with you more. I wish I had been a little bit older during that time period, but it was the last great era in America. Everything seemed to make sense and despite all the rapid technological advances, there was still this sense of basic innocence in American life and renewed optimism. Everything from the music, to the movies, to the underground scene was original and full of talented individuals. It was like a rebirth in so many ways. It was a special time.

@lizziefan84 agreed, theres still some good tunes today but back then music had more heart an real passion.coz most ppl nowdays write songs from the pocket an not the heart., all about a quick buck now 8 (
I think often how lucky I was born when I was (1978), coz I still got to experience fantastic music before it all turned into girls in bikinis dancing, dancing anywhere not just a beach, but in clubs and on the street and in office blocks. Unfortunately you missed out big time.
@lizziefan84 you didnt miss out, thank God for radio. i was born in 79 allthe music i like is older than me for the most part. i loved through all the 80s i started liking music at 5 .. the year you were born, when MTV was MTV Rock n' Roll. yeah todays music isnt nothing like it used to be,

There was plenty for me to love about growing up in the 90s, but nowadays so many things just seem so...off-track, so far fallen. /: We really have to look to the classic and retro and vintage for a lot of the best examples of things.
