Old school circa 2000's bands that I would recommend are Throneum (Pol), Deathhammer, Vomitor, Antichrist (Swe), Toxic Holocaust, Katharsis (Ger), Martyrvore, Deiphago, etc. Mostly hyrbird death/thrash, black/thrash bands, but there are lot of good old school death and heavy metal bands resurging from the shitswamp most people consider metal these days too.

Death metal came to form with albums like scream bloody gore and altars of madness and grindcore started around the same time as kill em all and show no mercy with repulsions first demo.
