if you don't inactivate the cannons, eventually the entire ship would blown up in the same scene as you shoot a gun in the gunpowder room. Maybe Jack wanted to end up in stalemate ?!

@raccoon19 Well, he felt like he was losing. Most of his mens were dead, Carnby held the only weapon what could kill him, Jarret was dead (and therefore, his immortality pact was broken). He wanted to make sure that Carnby would not win either.

alone in the dark 1 is a masterpiece!! the second one tough is terrible! they didn`t follow the story, it`s not a sequel, there are no zombies and the game is not macabre like the previous one and the music sounds like super mario game, it`s really a shame cuz I am a huge alone in the dark 1 fan.

You're entited to your opinion of the second game of course, but for what it's worth all of the enemies you encounter in this game are undead. Not zombies of the lumbering, Frankenstein-like variety of course, but zombies just the same. What's more, Pregzt, otherwise known as One-Eyed Jack, is indeed mentioned in Alone in the Dark 1, in a few of the books you may find in the game (he built Derceto, the mansion in #1).

Okay this is weird. One second Edward Carnaby is in the 1920's and now he is in 2008. Is a highlander or something. Maybe the 5th game is loosely based off the book. I mean in 1992 he is just is polygon rendered. Now he has so much detail on him. Bump mapping, Texture mapping, particle effects blood, millions of poly, 5 'o clock shadow, real time lighting, cloth, long hair, tall and more. He is a frickin' masterpeice. before he looks like a barber shop quartet reject. this hurts me inside.

According to the movie yes he is, in essence, something like Highlander. However, in truth, the newer games ("The New Nightmare" and onwards) have nothing to do with the original trilogy except that they involve a detective named Edward Carnby. ;)

Impressive that you even have access to the PS1 version- found my copy in a retro game store and flipped out. Anyway, didn't the PS1 version end this way? Gotta play through it again to be sure, but I thought so (albeit without the music- it's just the sound of waves, laughter and the explosions on the PS1's ending).

Nope. In the PS 1 ending, One Eyed Jack fires cannons in hopes of making the cave collapse and killing everyone. The boulders falling create a whirlpool that Edward and Grace escape through and end up outside on the boat.

So my fellow AITD friend, how did you find the latest part? I was slightly disappointed by leaving out much reverence to the other parts and the fact that Carnby curses like hell, he is not like that in any part.

True he doesn't swear that much (maybe because there isn't much spoken dialogue in the first games) but he always had a tough guy attitude (just look at the intro of Alone 3).

I haven't played it yet. I'll wait until I get a PS3 (around Christmas) and play before I let an opinion on the gameplay. On the other end, I LOVE the music. I listen to "Who am I?" very often on my Zune.

Yeah the soundtrack is very good, but the game has bugs which atari (infogrames) didnt fix or anything... Anyway if you managed to play the trilogy, then you wont have any trouble playing the other two games, the controls are ever so tricky.

Btw I managed to get the sound and music working. My version of the trilogy is in English.

Although recording the movie with dosbox, it doesnt record the music although you can hear the sound, weird huh? I did put cd-player volume at max

Try making an image file (ISO) of your CD and mount it as your CD. This should solve problems concerning music.

And make sure to look at install.exe (or dosinst.exe for AITD3) to make sure that a sound card is selected and look at the options to make sure that the music is activated.

And I heard that many bugs are corrected in the PS3 version (and the other versions will be patched).

Did it ever explain why the pirates kidnapped Grace?

I'm playing through the original trilogy at the mo and I'm up to the end of this one, but I can't remember if they ever said why they needed her. Was it something to do with sacrificing her for the 100 year pact?

The English translation does seem to change one or two lines from what I've seen here. Oh yeah, and thanks for the visual guide!

yeah, the first 3 games are set in the 20's and A New Nightmare in the 90's and now the new ones set in 2008, and it's the same character!

It's going to be interesting to get to know how it got like this, it's said it should be explained in the new one.

In part 5, New Nightmare never happened. If you follow the events that lead up to Edward waking up in 2008, there's no way 4 could have existed. It does mention Grace and the house in the first one though.
