I am working on two or three follow-up webisodes for this article. I haven't thought about making the code public - if I ever publish this in circuit cellar then it will appear there.
The follow-up articles should be more technical, in this article I lay out the need, requirements, and high level architecture. The next article focuses on the QRB1114.
I've resorted to mounting the IR sensors in a mated pair of 2x4's - not pretty, but quite robust.
Do you have a website with the schematics and code? Did you work out a method of hardening the IR sensor against mechanical damage shown in your other video?
You can download schematics and even get parts from OpenSprints
