@mba2ceo If you're talking about Gary, Indiana, then your wrong. Indiana farmers are fighting for free trade, but they haven't gotten it yet. Free trade would open Indiana up to sell their agricultural surplus to South American countries. The revenue that gary eould collect would offset the drop in property taxes that's hurting their government, but helping their people currently. If you think that Friedman's a bloodsucker, then you're very naive.
This guy needs to look up from his statistics and take a good look around. Most every job sector has been outsourced, and the dollars have not come back to America.. What it's done is slowly impoverished the richer nations while the poorest nations, who also practice protectionism (China) have gotten only slightly richer. The few middlemen however are billion/trillionaires.
The initial demand for cheaper products were high, produce from the u.s. and manufacturing from mexico.. but then companies abandoned the u.s. over time flooding mexico for their cheap labor.. leaving an increasing job crisis.
@cervantessssssssssss How is it that the U.S. gov owes a great deal of money to the Chinese? Where did the Chinese get those dollars to loan back to the U.S. gov? What do you think happens when the gov brings those dollars back across the ocean and sends a bond rather than an American export good back to China? Those dollars never competed for Yuan which means Yuan stay cheap relative to dollars, the U.S. trade deficit grows, and American jobs are lost. Once again, it's a gov failure.
this man was amazing, probably the best economics professor ever...see that i'm not pointing to his abilities as a researcher, which they were also incredible, but just focusing on his pedagogical skills. Always to the point, and as simple as it could get.
LIAR ... BLOODSUCKER !!! Free trade destroys societies. Look at Gary. IMO
