>>>>>>>>Alot of nazis could say that, some of whom Pierrpoint killed for following their orders to the letter.
The difference what law they followed. They killed people FOR BEING JEWS; he killed people FOR BEING MURDERERS. I'm quite sure that had Pierpoint been asked to kill someone for being a Jew, he would have refused.
What marks us out from the animals is the rule of law. Pierrpoint may not have liked the law as it stood back then but he did serve it; to the letter. How many of us could honestly say that?
Alot of nazis could say that, some of whom Pierrpoint killed for following their orders to the letter. What also sets us apart from animals is that we kill members of our own species for reasons other than survival - is that a good thing? Because something separates us from other animals does that mean its good?
@ReeseyLee The executioner is an agent of the state. He carries out the order of the court, the will of the people. It is a necessary job, just as the police, undertaker, garbage man has the job that while distateful is necessary. He is the hand of justice. Someone has to do it.
@DAngelo136 Hi, it is so long since I wrote that. I had forgotten all about it. I think I must have been referring to him carrying out the execution of his friend, rather than the actual job as a hangman.
Pierrepoint didn't mess around, and I wish he was still alive if I was sentenced to hang for whatever reason so the job would be over and done with.

You're off your face if you think animals don't kill members of their own species for reasons other than survival.
I agree that the death penalty has no place in a civilised society, but that's not a good argument.

@silverbiscuit
Death penalty has a place in a civilised society, but dealt with in a civilised, humane manner. Even in civilised societies we cull rabid dogs.
