Man in todays world is just that.Man has no idea who or why this place exists.Its beautifull still,and it will remain just that.not just a pile of stones.Man will never know who or why this place exists....
don't you hate not knowing the real truth about what are ancestor's mean when they create some thing so beautiful and left to ruin? these people were peaceful and believe in happiness and warm energy from the light so they believe if they build something so awesome and beautiful the sun will shine more brightly on them to give them what they need for life on earth! sounds cool huh?
With the greatest of respect, this simply is out of date & inaccurate.Neolithic & bronze age society was harsh & cruel. Plenty of evidence of violence, skirmishes & ritual sacrifice.That's not to say they weren't a very spiritual people. They had a cult of the ancestors & places like this helped people to commune with the long dead, also find wisdom & hope in what were pretty fearful times. No one lived here. It was a place of the dead, clearly. It has the biggest cremation cemetery in Britain.
The sun & moon were clearly very important to them in life as well as death. The sun was the life giver. They couldn't be sure it would not set for the last time, so at times like the solstice there would be celebrations, ancestors would be contacted, gods appeased whether through sacrifice or other means. If crops failed it meant the gods were angry. Now we know it's because of disease. they had no knowledge of that. So, we've gained a a bit and lost a lot in 5,000yrs.
Its because i presume, its at the mid-summer or may day. When the beam of light going through hit another stone near the road it was supposed to represent the fertility ritual which we presume is what the people who built it intended.
