also if the lipo storage takes the cells down to about only 3.7V per cell, isn't that discharging about 89% (leaving only about 11% charge in)? I thought it's not good to discharge lipos more than 80%..? thank you for your opinion on this
Thanks Bruce for all your great videos- can you tell me why we would not always balance charge our lipos? Is balance charging slower than normal charging (without balancing)? Why not always fast charge with intermittent balance charges? Is there a disadvantage to fast charging- does it reduce the life of the lipo? thanks for your reply
how do you set the max voltage per cell for a lipo. i need to reduce my charge cut off for a 3s lipo from 4.2 volts to 4.0 or 4.1 because i live in a very cold climate and dont want them fully charged to 4.2 volts and then bring them into heated house and have the voltage rise.
Thanks so much for doing this video Bruce, I have two questions, I want to buy a simple wall socket 12v power adapter and am wandering what how many amps it should be? and the connector is just called a bayonet connector? Thanks
Thank you for your very informative explanation on this. I read the manual cover to cover and was still lost. I plugged my charger and lipo to a car battery and charged it as you walked us through it. Thank you again
I have just ordered this exact charger to use with some 6.6v LiFe 2S and 4.8v NiMh Rx batteries, the charger only seems to cater for 7.4v or 3.7v... will this be a problem?? Any help much appreciated
Wow, Hobbyking stuff is so inexpensive. My local canadian hobbyshop is trying to sell me a brushless for $60-$80, when it's only $10 on Hobbyking. and $120 for a lipo that's $20 from Hobbyking. and an ESC for $40, when it's only $20 on Hobbyking. and a 2.4ghz radio, for $200 when they have good enough ones on Hobbyking for $50..... LOL!!!!
Does the power supply have to put out exactly 12 VDC? Mine, used for my Hobbico Accu-charger, puts our 14 VDC and doesn't work with the Turnigy Accucell 6.
i have got the same ZIPPY 3S battery from hobbyking..but my charger does not have a XT60 connector..so i could not charge it from the time it was shipped..when i checked the initial charge,it wasn't charged at all...does this state of the battery affect the working of the battery?its been like that for about 4 months
Hi good video i have a iMAX B6 charger just wondering about discharging on my charger there is a discharge setting witch you don't show i am using a 11.1 v 3sell 2200Mag but it is 18c what is the discharge & charge rate thanks Phil
I'm surprised that Bruce glossed over the verification screen where it shows R: (number of cells read) and S: (number of cells set.) This is a very important screen. If the two numbers don't match, then you should recheck how many cells in series your pack has, against how many cells in series you set on the charger. If you set a charge voltage different than the voltage of your pack and tried to charge it, your pack has a good chance of catching fire.
@sloperdude Good point -- although all the 4-button charges I've tested refuse to charge a pack that has fewer cells than set in the charge parameters because they consider the pack to be "under-voltage".
This is a great guide for beginners. There is so much inaccurate information out there on lipo-charging so it's nice to see a guide by someone who actually knows what he's talking about.
I have these and they work fine, the only issue is balancing, one of mine is quite a bit off in balancing, could you do a vid to show how to calibrate the accucell6, thanks.
@Skydive4ever Make sure you are not charging at too high a rate. The slower the rate the closer to peak all cells will be. At higher rates the charger will charge up to 4.2 per cell, but batteries tend to show a higher voltage immediately after a charge (more if faster) and this voltage sags soon after. The batteries might have been balanced at the moment the charger stopped, but later sagged. At slower rates, the internal chemistry can keep up with the current and there is usually less sag.
Good video, but I always use the "charge" mode. I was thinking it balances there as well when I have balance plug connected. Try to toggle 1 click on + button Bruce, when doing a "charge" (with balance plug conn.). On my 4-button Turnigy Accucell 8150 it seems to balance the cells. But a little confusing what the "balance" mode would be good for then. Hmm
As allways very good video and i think especially for beginners this is very informative.
But you said you cant cycle backwards in the battery type menu. On mine Accucell6 i can press the "Type" Button for one direction and the "Minus" Button for the other! Very handy when you pressed the button one time to often and dont want to go back all the way through the options
Also, I HIGHLY recommend charging lipos in a Lipo safe charging bag and on concrete, as sometimes a slightly damaged lipo can fail when charging, not matter how careful you are.
Hey Bruce... my charger is slightly different, it automatically starts charging as soon as it detects a battery in the circuit - with the last settings made on the charger. Hence if you were to recommend a standard practice for charging, that would be to make sure the settings are made in the charger for the correct battery type BEFORE connecting the lipo for charging. I have an Orbit Pocket ladder, and it auto detects the number of cells for charging which you have to accept to start charging
if you want an awesome charger the imax B6AC duel power i think is the best there is apart from Turnigy. If you are in NZ they cost about $150nzd on Trademe.
Thanks Bruce, very informative video. Can you show us how to calibrate the chargers balance port next? Mine is slightly out, 0.1 to 0.3 volts on some cells. SO I would like to recalibrate it asap.

@lookingHK Those types of chargers generally remember the last thing you did, and will go back there when you power it up. So, yes!
