what resolution is that playing at. I keep seeing that you can get the output up to 720x645 but i cannot for the life of me figure out how. the people at the zune hotline were absolutely no help and neither is the website.

you have to use the new dock V2 and connect with component cables whose slots are on the back of the dock

A number of people still have VCRs, and VHS tapes can be found at Best Buy and other electronic stores. I'm in the process of slowly converting my old VHS recordings to digital media.

Recently, I've invested in an Archos media player and DVR docking station. So, in order to convert all of my VHS tapes and DVDs, it's just a matter of attaching that device (satellite receiver, VCR, DVD player) to the DVR docking station.

The TV-output show here is coming straight out of the Zune 80's built-in composite video jack (headphone jack). You can buy a Zune A/V dock ($99) for a neater solution, but it's not necessary.
