  • funny..!!

  • I'm confused, why did she do this?

  • So well put together

  • It wasn't the Ken Bruce show, but it was Radio 2. Mark Radcliffe and Emma Forbes were sitting in for Steve Wright and asked for alternatives lyrics to "If you were a sail boat". Loads came in and Katie was a big enough sport to piece them together (as she pointed out, they still had to rhyme!) and went in to the studio to sing this version. I still have a copy of the podcast to prove it! She may well have performed this version for Ken Bruce as well, but if she did I missed it.

  • Awww... this is so great! I like her even more now. :-) :-)

  • ...a she beatle!

  • Funny !

  • allez manchester united !

  • I was travelling to Chesterfield when she sang this live on the radio. Was so good.

I'd love to lunch wih you, but I just had dinner.

"If you were a fish shop, I would love that fishy smell..."

  • მაგარი კლიპია ქეთი :)

  • She sang this parody on the Ken Bruce BBC Radio 2 show. Listeners had been sending in funny one liners about the song after some gentle ribbing by Ken Bruce about the words. Katie and co-writer Mike Batt then took some of those one liners to make this parody which she then sang, on a friday show, in the studio during one of his 'live sessions'.

Just goes to show that not only is she a good singer, good writer and damn pretty woman but also that she has a sense of humour. Nearly perfect then :)

  • god----she is amazing.....love u,katie

  • Such a good parody! And of herself! Awesome.

  • löl

But hey, how did you get the instrumental version of this song? I've been looking for it for days.

  • She's very down to earth which is refreshing.

  • "If you were a swimming pool I'd chlorinate you..." Brilliant!

  • :D so hilarious xD

  • omg

  • haha she's a sweetheart. and fun!

  • the best part of the story is that she made a parody of her own song and actually SUNG it!!!! i dont know many artists who could do that!

    katie you are great!!!

  • i don't really like this kind of stuff, when a good song is made to be parody, it seems to me that the song is not meaning anything if you can so easily make this. It's jus t my opinion, but whatever....

  • but this song was made by and sung by katie

read the description before you comment

  • Great editing...Thanks

  • did she actualy sing this song for real?

  • yup! she really does have a sense of humor. people complained about some weirdness in her lyrics, so she asked them for substitutes. She received a ton, then cut some funny ones, made them fit to the music, and sang them:) gotta love her!

  • Hi all! Hum can I have the lyrics please because I'm just a little french and it's hard for me to understand ^^

    Thank you

    I't seem funny

  • this is a cover version ,she should use her own records ! instead of pinching someone elses write her own ,its bang out of order

  • oi dude... she sang this on BBC radio 2, this aint a cover by some random person.....

  • Wow. I love her voice and she's beautiful. I just found out about her tonight from the Graham Norton show.

    ¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø„¸¨°º¤ø this everywhere

  • she is cooooooooooool

  • The best in the universe

  • Yeah it was BBC radio 2, the presenters had been laughing at some of the original lyrics and had the listeners write in their own humorous ones, then she came on and sang the funniest ones live.

Great that she can laugh at herself like that.

  • hahaha xD

  • I think you can hear her laughing around 2:25

  • Yeah, it's 2:28 xD you can hear her laughing at 1:44 also :D

  • She beat Weird Al to the punch! Way to go!

  • Thanks that is brilliant

  • How it was done? Well some people apparently sent their lyrics ideas to a radio show. And Katie happened to listen to the show and she made alternative lyrics and performed it live on that show.

I must say: that kind of self-humor is something to look up to. We all got to laugh at ourselves sometimes. Otherwise it's just boring.

  • GREAT!!! but how it's done??

  • Hahaha xD! Rozwaliła mnie ta parodia - dodaję do ulubionych! :-D

  • lol but how the hell could you do that ?

  • hm good question but it sounds like her...

  • you're the best !

  • haha

    perfect!

  • Hi from Belgium,

in french..., c'est délicieux, à savourer en soirée autour d'un feu de bois...

  • that's very unnecessary, it says at the start that he/she is from belgium so they have every right to speak french.

  • shes from georgia thats a fact

  • hehehe belgium ? Shes Georgian. and thats not Georgia in USA thats Georgia by the black sea below russia. Girls are beautiful there.

  • That's a thing we can't deny...

  • Great! British write relly good songs ;D

  • funny, i liked it

  • fantastic, can you do a video with the alternate version of nine million bicycles?

  • I heard her sing this on BBC Radio 2 with Mark Radcliffe about a month ago, listeners sent in their own lyrics to the song and then Mark Radcliffe made them into a song and when Katie was on the show they got her to sing them live. If you dont believe me that it was live then listen to her laughing between verses.

  • They recorded this song on BBC radio 2 about a month ago cos they were askin ppl to send in verses to this song and then they got her to sing them.

  • Oh my god you idiots THIS IS Katie!

  • fuck no... that's HER..... ??

  • errr who does that voice belong to?? so similar...

  • :))))))

  • did she really sing this?!

  • eww... munching onions?!

  • she's so fucking hot

  • i like this version too... :))

yes, i think, that a mariah carey or céline dion wouldn't do that. funny, thx for posting!

  • it's herself, she wrote a parody of her song... cool. don't think that celine dion would do that:-)

  • Sensational! The lyric 'I'd love that fishy smell' had me rolling on the floor!

  • Wow Katie

  • this is great!

i like it better then the sail boat one! lol

    love it! ^_^

  • Katie Melua You rules !! What else could I say, to me you're even more real than a dream, hemmm how could I say that... You know when you wake up and you met someone...Yep sometimes, somehow, I was there also.

  • its realy funny , kate is so sweet :D

  • Kate & Mike,, superb lyrics & well done for performing it live on the radio. This song should be performed more often.

    The video is exellent ^^

  • brilliant

  • Due respect!!!! A brilliant compilation of pictures and videos to complement this outstanding venture of Katie's. I can't think of many artists who would have the balls to parody their own song. Shows what a confident and self assured person she is. Makes a completely refreshing change to the many other artists who are so far up their own ar***s that they think the buying public owe them a living. Katie Melua appreciates and connects with her audience.

  • wow well done katie and mr radcliffe, still sounds great, god bless radio 2. i didn't know she was that pretty!! wowaweewar!!

  • Brilliant stuff! :)

  • When Mark Radcliffe was amusing us all with his alternative lyrics and then asked the Radio 2 listeners to send theirs in I bet Katie and Mike Batt would take up the challenge and put out an alternative and so they did! great stuff and how about a release for children in need?? Top banana.

  • it has to be said when the lights go out is a bit like an abba song i dont know what you think id like to know what all of you think

  • Katie is great...she needs to tour the states again real soon.

  • Oh, she's perfect :]

  • This was great. She performed the song on BBC Radio 2. The lyrics were sent in by listeners during the week. She heard about it and called Radio 2 to arrange this live session. Fantastic to see an artist who can actually have a joke with her own song, especially when the song is still in the charts! Good on you Katie, it was damn funny.

  • WOW This video is amazing! Image is pefectly matched to the lyrics. Well done :) And Katie showed that she has a good sense of humor ;) Very nice 5 stars.

  • Super:)
