  • I believe those are in fact some species of sand darter, I've read it's common to find them in with ghost shrimp

  • I was just wondering, I have an acrylic tank which I want to smarten up by drilling through the bottom and put my inlet and outlets through, I noticed u have done the same, I assume the drilling part will be fine as it's plastic but how easy is it to get a seal and obviously noooo leaks lol do you have any hints or tips? Cheers

  • @zxrninja636 I didn't do the drilling in my tank. The tank builder drilled the holes. I can't help you with the technical specifics. If you are going to do your own work, search the web for advice on how to do it. You might also consider using a piece of scrap plastic to practice your drilling before going at it with your tank.

  • You sir, have a BAD ASS turtle tank.

    How many gallons?

  • @xXxLinksterxXx the tank is 8' long, 3' wide, and 17" wide. Water depth is 12". Total water volume including the sump underneath is about 200 gallons.

  • @BauriBob wow i wish i had your tank its amazing isn't it a hassel doing water changes? and about how much have you spent on your setup if you dont mind me asking? looks EXPENSIVE

  • @xXxLinksterxXx cost plenty. depends on size, thickness of acrylic, and the cost of oil at the time of purchase. If you are looking to build an acrylic tank, check with some aquarium shops in your area or try glasscages online.

water changes - I turn off the two pumps (in the sump). Use a hose to drain the sump (separate drain pump). Fill the sump back up, turn the pumps back on and I'm done. Occasionally siphon the corner boxes, remove algae from sides.

  • @BauriBob wow sounds like a real hassel but i suppose you get used to it and set a schedule for it over time well thanks for the info and i hope to get a tank like yours one day :D

  • @xXxLinksterxXx no hassle at all, takes about 15 minutes. I have a hose dedicated for the water changes, just pull it in from outside and connect it to the pump. I fill the sump back up with fresh water directly from the hose. My house water is treated with activated carbon so no chlorine or chloramines to worry about.

  • DEAR BAURIBOB, how often do u feed a hatchling three striped mud and an adult one

  • @sammytheshark1 I feed the adults every other day. I feed the hatchlings every day. I only keep the hatchlings for about a month, then release them. I like to get them as big and strong as I can before they have to fend for themselves in the wild.

  • @BauriBob no,I mean how much do u feed hatchlings or adults every day

  • @sammytheshark1 there are pellets that drop automatically for the fish in the tank, the turtles eat them sometimes. Mainly I feed them fish and chicken, perhaps an amount roughly equal to the size of their head every other day.

  • Is all the moss grown thru your tank from your Moss balls?

  • @kingkaimen all the moss in my tank started out as moss balls. The turtles destroy them over time and I just let it create a sort of carpet on the bottom.

  • hello bob, i just purchase a freshwater master kit. what is a good reading for the test results. also my cory catfishs are doing great in the tank. thank you for all the advise you have given to turtle owners

  • DEAR BAURIBOB,my turtle's favorite snack is sun dried red shrimp, would it be a good idea to put ghost shrimp in the tank?

  • @sammytheshark1 I'm not sure what you are asking me here. ghost shrimp by themselves would not be a very good diet for turtles, if they can catch them. If you don't feed them turtle pellets you might try feeding them fish, shrimp, chicken, that sort of thing.

  • @BauriBob I dont mean for a snack, I mean would they do well in the same tank with my hatchling?

  • @BauriBob i dont mean as a snack, i mean will they be fine together with my hatchling?

  • @sammytheshark1 yes, if its hatchinlings they would go fine with the ghost shrimp, but if they grow bigger its a good idea to remove the shrimps and keep them somewhere else

  • @sammytheshark1 I can't answer that. Turtles will sometimes eat ghost shrimp if they can catch them. I am only familiar with muds and musks in captivity. They have eaten ghost shrimp but not often because they are well fed. It all depends...

  • you make good videos

  • im loving the turtle videos. so mesmerizing. anyways glad to see good people doing good things in FL! ; clearwater resident here. cheers!

  • Where do you buy your ghost shrimp? Online?

  • @sethc3333 no, some aquarium/fish shops sell ghost shrimp as fish food, just call around.

  • Wow lol that was a great video

  • Nice... This is my dream tank, and I'm going to get it for my turtle once I get a job or have enough money

  • Hi, I think you make great videos and I could watch your turtles swim around for hours. I always get sad when your video ends :P I don't have any turtles but I plan to get a 3 striped mud turtle when I move in a couple years. Just out of curiosity, what age is a mud turtle fully grown? I know they're the size of a nickel when they're born and they live for 50 years but how old are they when they stop growing? Thanks and looking forward to your next turtle video!! :)

  • @GlamAndOtherStuff I watch my turtles even when the TV is on, kind of switch back and forth. They are often more fun to watch than the shows on the tube.

They get to a length of between 4 and 5 inches. I am not certain when they stop growing, if they do. I'm sure there is some info on that out on the web somewhere.

  • @BauriBob in the last comment you said that you would need a sand box even if there is no male does the mean they can reproduce without a male?

  • @SternyCam no, the eggs will be sterile, but the female will still develop eggs.

  • You Have The Best Tank On Youtube... The Water Has Really Cleared Up Since Your Old Videos.. I Know You Do Water Changes

  • @TurtleRez2 The water has cleared up because the wood has matured and is no longer releasing a lot of tannins. If I add new mopani wood in the future, the water will turn tea colored again. The tannins do not effect water quality, just the color of the water. Carbon in the filter can help reduce it a bit.

  • @BauriBob Thanks, But What Do You Prefer Mopani Wood Or Driftwood.?

  • @TurtleRez2 mopani wood sinks. driftwood floats unless it is weighted down. I use mopani wood.

  • @BauriBob Sorry Last Question, What Do Think About Driftwood As A Basking Spot ? Sounds Good ?

  • @TurtleRez2 if it is large enough to support the turtle. If you have a female, you'll need a sand box for egg laying at some point, even if there is no male.

  • Keep the turtle videos comin

  • wow man! beautiful tank! i would love to have one like yours! and of course nice looking turtles!

  • could u post a link to the forum? that would be really cool

  • ok Thanks would drift wood be good to?

  • @philliephan23131 driftwood doesn't sink unless it is weighted down. I don't know what you are doing so I can't give you specific advice. I strongly recommend that you join the Turtle Forum. You can find people there with the same species of turtle that you have and can provide a lot of help.

  • where can you find/buy ponding wood?

  • @philliephan23131 I use Mopani wood because it is heavy and sinks. Some aquarium shops sell it. You can also buy it on the web.

  • I love your tank. I can watch it all day

  • Do you feed them fresh fish and shrimp or would it be okay to feed them thawed out frozen fish/shrimp?

  • @gnoultnecniv I buy the fish (like tilapia, cod, catfish) fresh, cut it up, then freeze it. I also buy frozen shrimp and smelt. I feed them cooked chicken and salmon (from a can) including the bones. Occationally they get live earthworms. A varied diet is best. Also be careful about the enzyme thiaminase which breaks down thiamine (vitamin B1) found in many frozen products like frozen shrimp and many frozen fish. You can find info on that enzyme on the web. search 'thiaminase'.

  • Awsome

  • @thebrandonhauser1 you may want to know some species will just eat them i don't know about diamond backs

  • ust watching the turtles because you can

  • @thebrandonhauser1 i got some on ebay. my yellow bellied ripped them apart within two weeks

  • I used to have a Goby.....R.I.P. He was very brave to LOL he used to try to nipple on my baby yellow-bellied-red-eared slider(hybrid)

  • @FLIPminoman LOL I meant *nibble* LOL I thought of 2 upside down b's..... bb pp there identical.

  • @thebrandonhauser1 some aquarium shops carry them. You can also search the web, I've seen them for sale online. The difficult thing is in finding large ones (softball size), they are very hard to find. They are usually very small, between a golf ball and a tennis ball, and expensive.

  • thanx for the explanation!

  • How many gallons does the tank hold

  • @1997xboxgamer there is about 200 gallons in the tank (including the sump underneath the tank)

  • i just love your videos beautiful !

  • are all these turtle permant?

  • @Noraturtlefan pretty much. they are all wild caught and if there are problems (like hostility) I will release the aggressive turtle. Katie, the newest, may be released next Spring if her nails grow back okay. If five seems manageable, I may keep them all.

  • @BauriBob ok awsome so would you ever save sliders or other turtles? or just musks?

  • @Noraturtlefan all 3-striped mud turtles.

  • such an awsome tank! your the man bob

  • I love that tank. Perfect

  • Another great video keep up the good work BauriBob!

  • 5:13 watch a shrimp is on the food in i believe ferns mouth

  • @Turtleman3691 the ghost shrimp are big risk takers and often try to steal food from the turtle's mouths. Sometimes they pay a big price for that bravado.

  • @BauriBob Nice love your vids

  • those are darter fish im surprised they are still alive in their

  • fantastic! wish i had a tank like that!

  • i really love your videos and I think u r doing a great job rehabin' all those turtles!may I ask you a question?as far as your experience goes, how do you explain Muddy's shell shape?it looks different from the others, it has that kind of depressed lane right in the centre of the back, do you think it might be just a subjective diversity? thanx and bye! hoping to see new videso soon!

  • @TheCrankinguru I have seen this shape in the wild only a couple times. I believe it is caused by carrying eggs at a relatively young age. Muddy's shell developed that shape after laying eggs for the first time in 2006, she was born in 2004. At two years old that is a bit young (and small) to carry eggs. She also eats a lot which makes her fat, but the shell shape is probably due to the eggs.

  • I love to watch your turtles do their turtle things

  • Another great video.

  • Comment removed

  • Always enjoy watching ur vid

  • Your videos are always super entertaining Bob. I get all excited when I see you have posted a new one. Katie looks like a sweet turtle. I hope she does OK with the rest of them.

  • Dam those corys are massive.

  • I really like you do videos more. I want to put in a request for a video going over the plants in the tank.

  • @TheDamschroder I'm a plant dummy, really. I buy stuff randomly at the aquarium shops, don't know the plant's names, just go on looks. I pull my own anacharis plants from the river though, but they are hard to root so I just run let them float or else anchor them under the mopani wood.

  • Ghost shrimp for the win!!!!

  • how big is that tank? LxHxW? thanks

  • @blip30 The tank is 8 feet long, 3 feet wide, and 17" high. Water depth is 12" in the deep areas, about 3" on the shallow water platforms.

  • LOVE your videos.

  • your tank is just the most amazing setup i have ever seen those turtles have a very happy life!!!!
