@killertctma I had to do the math and size it up. Copying one from a turbo mustang build isn't a bad idea, though. The first one I had for the truck (in this video) was way too small. I ended up with a T-70 the second time, and it ran much, much quicker than this. HX/HY35's off of 5.9 Cummins are pretty popular to use, also.
@killertctma Yes. Any turbo will fit anything with the right plumbing (for the most part, some rare exceptions). Getting one with the right compressor and turbine geometry is the important thing to worry about.
What type of oil pump rating do you recommend...example found one on ebay for 139 capacity is 1.73 gpm ...is that enough...what is a good lication for the blow off valve??
@cower16 The M5OD is what shows up in half-ton's with the 5.0, so it's fine for the power of a normal 5.0. I never broke it, so I won't complain. I also had the 7.5" rear end haha. Everyone complains about how weak it supposedly is, but let me tell ya, I never broke that after some very, very, very abusive launches either.
quick question did you need to do anything about the quarter panels because I was planning on putting a 302 in my Mazda B series truck (same thing as the ranger) and my dad's fiance said that the vibration would cause the panels to fall off even tho its all metal and holds up a hell of a lot better in a wreck than other vehicles
@19Freddie No - the vibration definitely won't cause the panels to fall off. I assume you are planning on using a factory (or other rubber-based) motor mount. MAYBE, just MAYBE you would get that severe of vibration with a solid motor mount, though I can't even imagine that.
This truck is actually a B3000 too, just with Ranger badges and Ranger fender flares.
Damn, that's a nice truck. I have a 2010 ranger with a 4.0, and would love to get one of the 2011 5.0 V8s that Ford is putting in the new Mustangs. How much did all this work set you back?
i just bought a totalled 97 explorer 5.0 to put in my 98 ranger. did you use the mechanical engine fan of the explorer or did you use an electric fan? and was what ford did with the oil filter on the explorer enough to fit in the ranger or did you use a relocation kit?
@SuperDurfey Yeah, I kept the original mechanical fan in it. I also used the larger 5.0 radiator - I never once had a cooling problem (bad thermostat once, but that's a different story).
And no, the oil filter had to be moved. There's some guys that are using a stubby filter and are able to get it up in the factory location, but I had a reloc. kit laying around and put it to use. It's definitely nice to put the oil filter where you want haha.
@TheRedheadedlefty It's lifted, on mud terrains, 4wd, with an intentionally small hot side housing. It's clearly not meant to be the fastest Ranger ever. Hook it bumper to bumper with a 2.3 and then laugh =)
@ghostsolid Yeah, people give me a ton of shit for cutting a hole there. But, if you do the math, it only reduces the flexural strength and moment by about 10-12%. I had the truck airborne since after this - it's not going to break. And heat? Come on. As far down as it was mounted, you MIGHT see 4-500F on the outside of the housing.
I got 97 Xplorer motor, it has coil pack ignition,GT40 intake &heads&comp.control trans. I want to put it in my 93Tbird. will the stock EEC box default & let the motor run OK W/O any trans input as it will be coupled to my TBird NON EEC AOD trans. hope that makes sense. great project you got & video! Thanks!
@niagrasprings No, not really. The PCM's idle strategy, for one, changes largely based on trans input. It will look for both a VSS and OSS signal as well as gear selection and gear position, etc. to change the idle strategy.
Myself and one other 5.0-swap'r finally figured out an intermittent miss at cruise that is due to improper trans inputs to the PCM. Ours are both manual trans, but the principle still applies.
you have a M5OD-R2 tranny, i was wondering if a M5OD-R2 woulde work. because i have a 98 for ranger witch that comes stock in with the 8.8 rearend. i was told it would work but i want to verify it before trying.
@brandonpovia i can answer this because i had a similar question yeah your rear end is more than capable. But your tranny is simply not worth bolting on go with a c5 or c4 tranny
Alright I'm curious. Did the 5.0 bolt in on the factory mounts and cradle? I have a 4.0 1999 Ranger and a wrecked 5.0 Mustang. I've been wanting to do the swap but dont want to tear out my 4.0 if I have to make major mods to the chassis. So I'm just curious.
@MrSaboot No, it doesn't just drop right in. There isn't 'major' modification involved, but it doesn't just pop in there. Most people, myself included, use the motor mounts of a later 90's Explorer 5.0. The frame size is very, very similar, and that is the easiest set to adapt in.
Being that your Ranger is a '99 and the Mustang is pre-'96 (OBD-II), prepare for a wiring adventure. Also, alot of the accessory brackets and whatnot won't fit as well as the Explorer swap.
i was told i would need to get a c5 tranny if i wanted it to be manual do you know of any alternative trannys i can use or were I could get a c5 for cheap
@speebaum A C5 is an option, yes... my truck ran an M5OD straight out of an older (late 80's, early 90's) half-ton. Snagged the transfer case too. It's all in how you want to do it. Junkyard is generally the easiest place to snag "cheap" stuff.
i was told i would need to get a c5 tranny if i wanted it to be manual do you know of any alternative trannys i can use or were I could get a c5 for cheap
@cullanflint Yep. The transmission is out of an early 90's F-150, rebuilt with stouter parts here and there. Transfer case is from the same truck, again, rebuilt, but with OE level parts.
the body is the body of a mazda, how did you fit the ford logo in front? i'm building myself a b2300 turbo. U have probably put the explorer diff on back was is a easy job to do? nice truck btw!
@beluga420 I just went to the junkyard and found an emblem off of something else that was about the right size, then busted out the Dremel and notched it to fit.
I really wanted the 8.8" diff but we never got around to it. You actually want the 8.8" out of an early (93-94ish) 4.0L Ranger. The Explorer diff takes quite a bit of fab work to fit, like narrowing and swapping perches and whatnot. Ranger is plug and play.
@jimkanleaf - Long story short, it's quite complex to get everything to work quite "right". By right I mean that the check engine light functions properly, the things that should work work right, and the things that aren't there or shouldn't be working don't try to. My dad, a 35+ yr mechanic, took care of most of the wiring in the truck, so I honestly can't tell you EVERYTHING that went on. However, I'm very auto-electrical savvy and it is not a simple task.
@NitrousMatt - Good catch :) Yes, it's actually the first gen of "round-body" Mazda. Same everything as a Ranger, just a little bit different body panels.
@mxerboy123 - For one, you're able to very easily mount the air filter underneath as well, so that you can pull in as cold of air as possible instead of somewhat stail, hot air from the engine compartment. The long length of charge tubing that is in cold air also acts as a simple intercooler, so most people don't even run an intercooler. Also, like in this truck, I had no way of mounting it under the hood. There simply IS NOT room for it. I would say space is typically the deciding factor.
@FordRanger9967 - Main gauges came from eBay. Some cheap, like $20 overlay kit that works AWESOME. Pod gauges came from Summit I think. They're Autometer and AEM gauges.
I have a 1994 Ranger 4.0 V6 and I want to eventually do the 5.0 swap with a turbo. Can you tell me where you got the dash set up you have, It looks great I'd love to have something like that in mine
I am in the middle of doing a turbo 5.0L 2wd 98 ranger using a 97 Explorer ecu.
Does the sniper cut all the check engine lights when you use the "manual" option? I emailed them but they never emailed back. What did you use to get rid of the auto check engine lights?
@rebel2k4 When we installed the 5.0 and manual I did the wiring such that there were no check engine lights from tranny codes. It didn't "know" that it was a manual, but it didn't set any lights for tranny codes or anything. Thus, I have no idea if the Sniper software would cut the codes or not. Sorry :(
I just baught another ranger with the 4.0l its a 1994, body is in good shape with only 85k on it so its perfect for a project.
Im looking to put a stock 302 ho with efi something out of a 90's mustang into the ranger, got any tips as far as mounting it goes? Im pretty set on doing it, but sometimes to run into those unexpected fitment issues.....
@dsmtuner1345 I'm not terribly familiar with doing an early 5.0 swap... But as far as fitment goes, you'll probably want to build your own motor mounts. We used the stock Explorer mounts and we ended up needing the body lift to close the hood! Not a big deal since I wanted the extra lift anyway, but for those that don't, it will be an issue. I'm not sure what the 'stang mounts are like, I'd have to look. And the Explorer front accessory mounts are definitely the way to go for a tight fit.
@mrcool242 ... And fully reinforced around it. If there was going to be a problem it would have happened by now, and she's still running like a champ! The guy who owns it now actually uses it quite a bit harder than I do, with not a problem yet.
I am in the midst of an efi swap in my 83 trail rig ranger. going from the 2.8 carb unit to the 4.0 from a 92. I have got what I think should be done but not getting 12v. to my coil packs and don't have a clue where to look fo the prob. it uses the eec-iv and the independant icm like the first 5.0 fox body's.
Well, the 5.0 is the 302. A carbureted swap is the easiest, but with that, you get the headaches and pains in the ass of a carb.
EFI is quite a bit more complex to swap, but between the time I built my Ranger and now, there has been a HUGE expansion of internet-available knowledge for the swap. With enough research, it's fairly easy to plan for. A '94 is just difficult because the '98 Explorer motor fits the best, but the electrical is not directly compatible.
Yes, I did all the computer tuning. I ended up putting a 255lph pump and 39lb/hr Cobra injectors in it to keep up.
You can skip the hole in the frame if you want. I easily could have if I had mounted it farther back. But, I had the time and resources to reinforce the frame around the hole, and it never once gave me any problems.
Fitting it in isn't too bad... takes a little work. Wiring it was the worst, because the truck was OBD-I and the motor was OBD-II, and we wanted all of the sensors and features that could work, to work. When all was finished, everything worked just as it should have, but yeah, it takes a little time.
And yes, A/C and everything else worked as intended when it was done.
It's actually an ag-style fluid pump from ShurFlo. They say "not for use with flammable liquids", but I never once had a problem with it. Worked like a champ, cost me like $90 + shipping.
nice! THe only thing im worrying about is how hot oil will treat the insides of those vane pumps. i know the old Mr. Turbo kits for drag bikes ran a vane pump, but they were 1/4 mile at a time...
it all depends, would you do the swap yourself, or pay someone else to do it? you could probably find a decent 5.0 at a wrecking yard and grab it for a few hundred bucks, thus do it all yourself. or you could pay 5 grand for a crate engine, and then another 5 grand or so for someone to do the swap. these are just ballpark figures, go to a local shop and get a quote. cheers!
I'd do it myself, and I can probably find a 5.0 cheap, but I was wondering as far as wiring kits and any other modifications I'd have to make to get in there
Two completely different systems, both have pro's and con's. Research it up. Turbo setups are typically a little bit cheaper and easier to build precisely what you want.
that whole in the frame is scetchy. im a certified inspection mechanic in P.A and i'd have to check the book one.I really like that truck.looks really fun.
hey my cousin has a 1991 ranger with a 4.0 its 2 wheel drive automatic should i consider buying it from him im 14 and i got to get a truck to drive preety soon and i was wondering if i should get it cause the dum ass was trying to take it sideways and hit a tree lol but for 1500$ i can get it fixed but idk how much he wants for it his dad kept asking people 2500$ for it cause thats what he bought it for but that stupid cause that guy didint hit a fuckin tree then it was like brand new
hey i own a 2002 xlt ranger 3.0 we have justblew it up racing a 4.8silverado won but lost the heart of it ok well i know to do a 302 swap you need mounts radiator and headers and oil filter location but could i still use the c4 trans and rear end not to much on the rear is gonna stay but need to know about the 302 and c4 likeing each other
hey I have a questiion, so I have a 1987 Ford F150 with a 302 and EFI (I'd assume it would prolly be more efficient with the fuel injection), well I was wondering what mm I should get (i run with ethonol) and if you would have any idea on pricing, Thanks!
one question is that a engine swap or is that the original engine included how much should i look to spend on everything else b4 the turbo kit??? i got a sohc v6 explorer
Wasn't bad at all. It's really no worse than a manifold-mounted setup because it doesn't need an intercooler. Thus, there's really no more charge tube volume to slow it down.
From a 2,000rpm roll it would usually build full boost by 2,600-2,700rpm.
The further away from the engine the turbo is the less eficiently the turbo spins up as the exhaust gas cools it reduces in pressure, rep the exhaust feeding the turbo with insulating bandage.
dude thats a high compression motor and hes only running 6psi so he won't destroy the thing...not to mention its a v8 so any kind of forced induction will make it just sick anyway
This is true, but, header wrap wreaks havoc on manifolds. The factory ones are already somewhat cheesy and prone to cracking, and header wrap would be the end of them.
And yes, your number theory on compression/boost is roughly correct.
Yeah, half ton trans, transfer case, etc. And yes, EFI! I didn't want to have a carb like all of the other V8 Rangers. I actually really thought about going the 347 route until these nagging financial issues have pushed me to sell it. So it's currently up for grabs.
Dang. I don't see any videos of it :( And carbureted? Ew, I'm sorry!
Please realize this is spinning 4WD, 33's, and 7-8" of lift. It's not like it's a slammed 2WD pickup. That's just not practical up here in the mud and snow.
3" that splits into 2 1/4" duals. I'm hoping to get it into the exhaust shop next week and have them take the duals out and just run a single 3" out underneath though.
Dont get me wrong its a nice truck, but stop calling it a ranger cuz its not its a mazda, i know there practically the same thing but there not the only thing thats the same about them from the factory is the ford motors, nice truck tho i wish i had the money to but it from you
Actually, the motors, trans, all the running gear, the interior parts (minus things with emblems on them) and everything else under the hood is the same. The cabs are identical... really aside from the emblems, bedsides, front fenders, grilles, and tail/headlights, they are identical. If you put the two side by side with the bodies off, you cant tell them apart.
i mean what is with you fags and "remote" mounting your turbo's? the stock 5.0 mannys can easily be modified to fit a t3 on the end and tuck nice and close to the block
and 2 t3's would push plenty of cfm at low boost (6-10psi) there would be no lag (15psi by 1500rpm) and you don't have the turbo hanging out there getting all fuckered up
Haha. I would LOVE to see you fit it under the hood of a 5.0'd Ranger. Obviously you have never seen the engine bay of one, so shut the hell up without knowing what you're talking about.
Go read about remotes on STS's site before you even post again. You'll see why there's often LESS lag than a conventional setup smartass.
less lag in an sts setup is against the laws of physics
and 2 yeah i have seen under the hood there is quite alot of room under the hood the engine bay is very similar to to a fox mustang witch is east to turbo
also i have swapped a 5.4l dohc v8 from a navigator in to a ranger and twin turboed it, it makes 490whp on 7-8psi on the stock engine
and it all fits under the stock hood (and the dohc ford engines are much larger than the 5.0)
Yeah, i'd like to see how it is against the laws of physics too. I've been researching the STS design for about 4 years now, saving my pennies to buy. Their remotely mounted turbo system is actually pretty good.
Hey, 0to60in16seconds, where the hell do you get your information from? Hmm? How is that 'against physics'?
If I had everything you needed. What would you charge a guy to do this?

@salbadorruizalvarez Find one that is oil rated. 1.75 gpm would be PLENTY for an oil return. The feed hole to the turbo is very, very small.
BOV can be anywhere in the intake tract, really. Keep it away from the MAF/MAP/etc, though.

@salbadorruizalvarez Just one external pump to return the oil from the turbo.

Where did you get that dash set up at, I'd love to have something similar in my 94 Ranger
FordRanger9967 1 year ago
@FordRanger9967 - Main gauges came from eBay. Some cheap, like $20 overlay kit that works AWESOME. Pod gauges came from Summit I think. They're Autometer and AEM gauges.

I have a 1994 Ranger 4.0 V6 and I want to eventually do the 5.0 swap with a turbo. Can you tell me where you got the dash set up you have, It looks great I'd love to have something like that in mine

That's some serious power man! I think you need a speedo that goes higher than 85, lol.

I am in the middle of doing a turbo 5.0L 2wd 98 ranger using a 97 Explorer ecu.
Does the sniper cut all the check engine lights when you use the "manual" option? I emailed them but they never emailed back. What did you use to get rid of the auto check engine lights?
rebel2k4 1 year ago
@rebel2k4 When we installed the 5.0 and manual I did the wiring such that there were no check engine lights from tranny codes. It didn't "know" that it was a manual, but it didn't set any lights for tranny codes or anything. Thus, I have no idea if the Sniper software would cut the codes or not. Sorry :(

Looks nice i like where you placed the turbo.
Thanks for any help you can give me
dsmtuner1345 1 year ago
@dsmtuner1345 I'm not terribly familiar with doing an early 5.0 swap... But as far as fitment goes, you'll probably want to build your own motor mounts. We used the stock Explorer mounts and we ended up needing the body lift to close the hood! Not a big deal since I wanted the extra lift anyway, but for those that don't, it will be an issue. I'm not sure what the 'stang mounts are like, I'd have to look. And the Explorer front accessory mounts are definitely the way to go for a tight fit.
v8rangerboy 1 year ago
@mrcool242 ... And fully reinforced around it. If there was going to be a problem it would have happened by now, and she's still running like a champ! The guy who owns it now actually uses it quite a bit harder than I do, with not a problem yet.

I want to do this to my 2000 ranger any tips?
rckr993 1 year ago
I am in the midst of an efi swap in my 83 trail rig ranger. going from the 2.8 carb unit to the 4.0 from a 92. I have got what I think should be done but not getting 12v. to my coil packs and don't have a clue where to look fo the prob. it uses the eec-iv and the independant icm like the first 5.0 fox body's.

I have a 2002 rangeri want t swap to a 302 how much does t cost?!
09hillm 1 year ago
Depends on how you want to do it and who does it. Can be anything from a little to alot!

well i want to do it myself but i'm no sure to pull an old engine or to find a rebuilt one...

If it were me, I would pull an old engine and rebuild it myself as a stout 347. But I'm not sure where your budget falls!

Yup. 6psi makes a monster difference in a small block.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
Would it be easier to swap a 5.0 efi into a 94' ranger , or is it easier to swap in a 302.
skols07 2 years ago
Well, the 5.0 is the 302. A carbureted swap is the easiest, but with that, you get the headaches and pains in the ass of a carb.
EFI is quite a bit more complex to swap, but between the time I built my Ranger and now, there has been a HUGE expansion of internet-available knowledge for the swap. With enough research, it's fairly easy to plan for. A '94 is just difficult because the '98 Explorer motor fits the best, but the electrical is not directly compatible.

Was there any programming done to the computer? Anything done to the fuel system?
Can the hole cut in the frame be avoided?
stivic923 2 years ago
Yes, I did all the computer tuning. I ended up putting a 255lph pump and 39lb/hr Cobra injectors in it to keep up.
You can skip the hole in the frame if you want. I easily could have if I had mounted it farther back. But, I had the time and resources to reinforce the frame around the hole, and it never once gave me any problems.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
Do you have anymore pics of this build?
Did you buy the turbo new of is it a used turbo from a wreck?
stivic923 2 years ago
Yes, I have tons of pictures from it. The turbo was brand new.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
how hard was it to put that 5.0 in and still use the electronic controls. did it still have a/c after the mod?
WARD5KUSTOMZ 2 years ago
Fitting it in isn't too bad... takes a little work. Wiring it was the worst, because the truck was OBD-I and the motor was OBD-II, and we wanted all of the sensors and features that could work, to work. When all was finished, everything worked just as it should have, but yeah, it takes a little time.
And yes, A/C and everything else worked as intended when it was done.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
ok was wondering cause thinkin about puttin in a 5.0 from a mustang in a 89 ranger
WARD5KUSTOMZ 2 years ago
I just want to know where to get that oil pump for the turbo return without spending hundreds of dollars!
ibuiltmineo1oo 2 years ago
It's actually an ag-style fluid pump from ShurFlo. They say "not for use with flammable liquids", but I never once had a problem with it. Worked like a champ, cost me like $90 + shipping.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
nice! THe only thing im worrying about is how hot oil will treat the insides of those vane pumps. i know the old Mr. Turbo kits for drag bikes ran a vane pump, but they were 1/4 mile at a time...
Thanks!

i have an 83 ranger with a 302 it was alot of work had to modd suspension trans rear end frame and firewall
1979FordsRock 2 years ago
You can basically do it one of two ways:
1) the rigged up way: cut and mod to fit, or
2) get a wrecked Explorer with a 5.0L in it, that everything is basically drop-in, plug-in, and play.
I feel very sad for the ones like 1979Fords... it doesn't have to be nearly that hard or nasty if you plan it out a little bit.

I've got a 1991 auto rwd Ranger, how much would it take to swap a 5.0 in there?
rjsny350 2 years ago
it all depends, would you do the swap yourself, or pay someone else to do it? you could probably find a decent 5.0 at a wrecking yard and grab it for a few hundred bucks, thus do it all yourself. or you could pay 5 grand for a crate engine, and then another 5 grand or so for someone to do the swap. these are just ballpark figures, go to a local shop and get a quote. cheers!
Phil38654 2 years ago
I'd do it myself, and I can probably find a 5.0 cheap, but I was wondering as far as wiring kits and any other modifications I'd have to make to get in there
rjsny350 2 years ago
im considerig building one of these out of a two wheel drive ranger, i have the motor, do u think a super charger or a turbo would be better?
SNYD3Rxx4 2 years ago
Two completely different systems, both have pro's and con's. Research it up. Turbo setups are typically a little bit cheaper and easier to build precisely what you want.

hey i was just wondering i have a f150 with headers intake exaust and i was wondering how much u think it would be to bolt up a complete turbo kit

$3,000 is a good ballpark, start to finish for a solid, up and running setup.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
Hows the turbo lag?
mustang50dominates 2 years ago
Wasn't bad at all. It's really no worse than a manifold-mounted setup because it doesn't need an intercooler. Thus, there's really no more charge tube volume to slow it down.
From a 2,000rpm roll it would usually build full boost by 2,600-2,700rpm.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
sweet deal! you advertised on trs right?

v8rangerboy 2 years ago
what front end body mods did you do? your front bumper and headlight look awesome!!! mine is stock and looks like shit. (1996 ranger)
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
Oh - it's because the truck is actually the Mazda version of the Ranger. It's technically not REALLY a Ranger.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
The further away from the engine the turbo is the less eficiently the turbo spins up as the exhaust gas cools it reduces in pressure, rep the exhaust feeding the turbo with insulating bandage.
tpvalley 2 years ago
Yeah and melt a manifold? Thanks, I'd rather not.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
melt a manifold?!
Doubt it, plus u can wrap maybe just the first half or last half if u wanted.
It is common practice to insulate manifolds etc.
tpvalley 2 years ago
dude thats a high compression motor and hes only running 6psi so he won't destroy the thing...not to mention its a v8 so any kind of forced induction will make it just sick anyway
justineffinp 2 years ago
I didnt say he would destroy anything!
He said he feared melting exhaust if heat wrapped, I said wrap exhaust to keep heat in as long headers lose gas speed as it cools.
BTW, turbo engines need lower compression as the dynamic compression ratio increases with boost.
ie 10:1 ratio on non turbo (static)
10: (static) on turbo, but in theory 20:1 dynamic CR at 15psi if double atmospheric pressure meant double the amount of charge into cylinders.
U get the idea, in reality heat reduces density.
tpvalley 2 years ago
This is true, but, header wrap wreaks havoc on manifolds. The factory ones are already somewhat cheesy and prone to cracking, and header wrap would be the end of them.
And yes, your number theory on compression/boost is roughly correct.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
make that 302 into a 347stroker!! haha.
nahh bro thats a siick truck ya got there. im guessing your using a half ton tranny?
EFI to! nice man a good swap!
F350FreakstyleV10 2 years ago
Yeah, half ton trans, transfer case, etc. And yes, EFI! I didn't want to have a carb like all of the other V8 Rangers. I actually really thought about going the 347 route until these nagging financial issues have pushed me to sell it. So it's currently up for grabs.
v8rangerboy 2 years ago
i hear ya dude, cant beat fuel injected, ahh shitty dude, i hear ya on that financial shit,
how much did you or are you selling it 4?
yea with that 347 stroker youd be pushin over 400hp with that truck, not to mention id be light as hell, that sucks ya gotta drop it man.
you plannin on throwin down another project?
F350FreakstyleV10 2 years ago
I think I have it sold - $8000. I might put something else together sooner or later... just have to see how the money plays out.

thats cool seems like its a good grab for someone, all the labor an parts in that truck least has to hit 10grand.
then again sucks ya had to sell it, econ sucks so bad right now but seems like its pickin up so i might try n do a project one of these days also.

I'd really like to. I want to find someone with a decent video camera instead of this crappy digital camera mic though.
It's on a little bit better tune and side-out 3" single instead of the duals now too. Sounds real good!
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
I have 351 wienser in my 99 ranger it way faster
southernranger88 3 years ago
Dang. I don't see any videos of it :( And carbureted? Ew, I'm sorry!
Please realize this is spinning 4WD, 33's, and 7-8" of lift. It's not like it's a slammed 2WD pickup. That's just not practical up here in the mud and snow.
PS - it's Windsor. Not "wienser".
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
what size is the exhaust pipe coming out of the turbo? thinking about swapping a turbo on my f150
WARD5KUSTOMZ 3 years ago
3" that splits into 2 1/4" duals. I'm hoping to get it into the exhaust shop next week and have them take the duals out and just run a single 3" out underneath though.
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
sounds like the engine is cutting out. is that the mic or is there a problem with your fuel delivery system?

No it runs like hell. Its just that I only had a digital camera to do the clip with, not a nicer video camera.
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
Dont get me wrong its a nice truck, but stop calling it a ranger cuz its not its a mazda, i know there practically the same thing but there not the only thing thats the same about them from the factory is the ford motors, nice truck tho i wish i had the money to but it from you
208Jake 3 years ago
Actually, the motors, trans, all the running gear, the interior parts (minus things with emblems on them) and everything else under the hood is the same. The cabs are identical... really aside from the emblems, bedsides, front fenders, grilles, and tail/headlights, they are identical. If you put the two side by side with the bodies off, you cant tell them apart.
v8rangerboy 3 years ago

Nice Truck man!

v8rangerboy 3 years ago
can you say turbo lag?
i mean what is with you fags and "remote" mounting your turbo's? the stock 5.0 mannys can easily be modified to fit a t3 on the end and tuck nice and close to the block
and 2 t3's would push plenty of cfm at low boost (6-10psi) there would be no lag (15psi by 1500rpm) and you don't have the turbo hanging out there getting all fuckered up
0to60in16seconds 3 years ago
Haha. I would LOVE to see you fit it under the hood of a 5.0'd Ranger. Obviously you have never seen the engine bay of one, so shut the hell up without knowing what you're talking about.
Go read about remotes on STS's site before you even post again. You'll see why there's often LESS lag than a conventional setup smartass.
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
less lag in an sts setup is against the laws of physics
and 2 yeah i have seen under the hood there is quite alot of room under the hood the engine bay is very similar to to a fox mustang witch is east to turbo
also i have swapped a 5.4l dohc v8 from a navigator in to a ranger and twin turboed it, it makes 490whp on 7-8psi on the stock engine
and it all fits under the stock hood (and the dohc ford engines are much larger than the 5.0)
0to60in16seconds 3 years ago
Cool! Where are the pictures?
Also, against what law of physics? Explain. I have yet to see evidence other than just talking up a good one.
v8rangerboy 3 years ago
Yeah, i'd like to see how it is against the laws of physics too. I've been researching the STS design for about 4 years now, saving my pennies to buy. Their remotely mounted turbo system is actually pretty good.
Hey, 0to60in16seconds, where the hell do you get your information from? Hmm? How is that 'against physics'?
spunkyprep 3 years ago
