  • I also prepaint base when the walls have been painted, but I only do one thin coat. Thicker paint can cause problems with cutting & nailing... hanging chads on outside corners, peeling paint when you patch swollen nail holes... etc. It doesn't take much more time to give 1 more full coat after install versus touching up. Plus the results are better than touchups because you won't have paint flashing off on the edges of your brush strokes (which results a spotty sheen).

  • @truglodite Well done with your explanation. I agree!!..lol The reason I ended up painting 2 coats on my base was because I installed over a prefinished laminate floor & I had a small piece of trim at bottom. I nailed the bottom of the base (where the small trim covered it) & nailed the top of base between a "v" edge so all I had to do was caulk the inside edge & paint over this area & not on face of base. I let the paint cure a couple of days before cutting & nailing. Great commenting! Joe :0

  • It's down the center of the house, and most likely a bearing wall. But I was planing to take out only 12 foot in the center so you can see the fireplace in the dining from the living and have better traffic flow. Not going to take the whole wall because the electric swtiches for those rooms are on that wall.I will most likely have someone do the wall and I will finish it out.Since I am retired and have the time.

  • @myalb4j Still check the area above the wall portion that you want to remove. Make sure that portion of wall is not holding up any portion of your roof structure. Check in the attic & let me know. Joe :0

  • Since we are planing on opening the wall be between the kitchen/dining and living.I will have scrap piece of baseboard to shop with. ...Can I put KNOCKDOWN over painted paneling?

  • @myalb4j I don't see why you couldn't put a knock-down spray texture on painted paneling....it should stick fine. You might want to roughen up the surface with some sandpaper first maybe with a sanding pole. You shouldn't have to sand much. It should stick without sanding though. Have fun with your project. Make sure you check to see that the wall you will be removing, is not a bearing wall. Get up in the attic & check it out, before removing that section of wall. Joe :0

  • nightmare 101

The foreclosed house has MISSING BOARDS .The owner started to remodel to sell and lost the house. Now we have to try to replace and paint the new baseboards to match the old.The house was built in 1977.

  • @myalb4j You'll get through it. The biggest part of the job is going to be matching up the same style of baseboard exact. Can you find the same design? You should be able to so don't give up looking after checking out the first hardware store. Go to at least 3 different stores then pick the closest one you can find.....if you can't match it. Good luck. Joe :0

  • Seen a couple of your videos. Caulk is pronounced "kawk" or "cock". Don't pronounce the "L". It makes you sound like a tool.

  • @louisb323 I'd hate for viewers to think I was a tool!....lol. I will try to remember to say cock from now on when talking about caulking. That's going to be a hard one as I've always said cau"l"k. Joe :0
