Poor conductor and the orchestra. It must be a nightmare - to play with such a soloist who does not has an idea about such a basic thing of a musicianship as rhythm and playing what is in the score - not this rubbish he is doing in all of his performances. This guy is mad.

Also, i dont quite understand the statement that vengerov is somehow inferior to hilary hahn. both are quite brilliant, so it simply comes down to personal taste and opinion. I would prefer vengerov because of his richer sound, but i must say that its simply, again, a matter of opinion. saying that one is "better" than the other is ridiculous.

The orchestra is so incompetent that even if i were the soloist i would have been annoyed and purposely do some crazy stuff. it sounded like in the end li was indeed irritated, and i don't blame him. some blame li that his notes do not sound clean in this piece. however, i believe that it isn't that big of an issue, since we're talking about sarasate here, not mozart, so in this case, cleanliness isn't the major issue...some notes are just there for the effect.

chuanyun li has his own styles...but i dun like it sometimes altho his technique is vry good...bcoz sometimes it's not clean...n sometimes the timing n the rhythm is incorrect...but i agreed too...the orchestra is not good in accompaniment...is it hongkong sinfonietta?i dunno...by the way...i love vengerov,hahn,midori even,n oso my big idol SARAH CHANG 's version...

It's so painful watching this...the orchestra is just cringe-worthy. Such a pity cuz Chuan Yun is such an awesome violinist and I somehow feel he wasn't very happy playing this with this orchestra either.

YEAH FOR REAL WHAT WAS WITH THOSE PIZZES IN THE BEGINNING? HAH! So much for accompianiment right? Soloist was amazing. Love the rubato. Drama and getting carried away are what makes this piece come alive. I think this is a good example of how it should be done. Too bad for the orchestra. Maybe they only had like one rehearsal. BUT STILL..????

great soloist bad orchestra really! That's the truth. Li Chuanyun is amazing and deserves better. He is just as good as Vengerov or Hahn. He should have a bigger name!

vengerov is a phenomenal soloist and Hahn is completely overated. Li is about infinitely better than Hahn. go figure

Haha. Yeah. You put Vengerov and Hahn in the same category? It's a shame 'cause she's so amazing and he's so mediocre.  Plus, Hahn and Li are on par. They simply have radically different playing styles. Within each's chosen style, each is a master.

Gil Shaham's rendition is much better, and its not because of this guys accompaniment. Shaham is alot more clean with his playing, and I don't personally like this guys outrageous phrases sometimes. He is a good player though.

yes. he is a great player. However, keep in mind that Gil Shaham is plays...let's say...in a more "standard" manner. Chuanyun Li plays with more feeling..and almost all of his pieces are "emotion-fed" (his technique is also amazing)

Everybody cites Shaham's cleanliness, but I think sometimes his playing lacks fire. It seems like Li Chuanyun sometimes gets bored with playing a piece and so he finds insane ways to phrase. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

totally agree with you! also, the quality of sound, and the orchestra is just pitifull. i've seen him live, and he has the cleanest sound. this piece should be as "dirty" as he does it..c'mon..we've heard enough arpeggio/scale/fat vibrato interpretations, or should i say imitations.
