Looking for evidence of lower heart disease and cancer on Crete - couldn't find it. Just says people of Crete consume a lot of olive oil. I DID find this "When researchers from the University of Crete recently compared residents of Crete who had heart disease with residents free of the disease, they found that the residents with heart disease ate a diet with “significantly higher daily intakes” of monounsaturated fats (principally olive oil) as well as all fats."
I eat a high carb, low fat diet - I weigh average 110-115. A good friend- same height - has always eaten a lot of meat, a lot of fat - she's probably close to 200 lbs., if not more. Wonder why.
his info on fat is utter nonsense! I eat ornish/Pritkin style and its MEGA easy to stick with. U just need to stick with it for a few weeks and u stop craving fat. EVERYthing he said does was a negative about low fat diets, is totally nonsense. Wow! this was so bad I almost could not believe it. It's very hard to eat high fat and stay lean because your calories get out of control. The Ornish/Pritikin diet is so easy to keep calories low hence stay lean. Weill is obese, what does that say?
Most of the comments on this video are inane. Weil provides great advice, and all you guys are saying is, "oh he's fat, i'm not listening to him". Morons.
Damn, he has gone downhill! Notice the black backdrop against his black shirt to try blend in his overweight torso. It is a shame too, back when I was an omni a few years ago I trusted him. He gave some decent advice (it seemed anyway), some of which was not diet related: like stop watching the news, SO effing right!!
But yeah, Andy, in order to be a health guru, you are going to have to prove what you say/do works and thus when we see you quite tubby like this it is not a good sign.
I really like and respect Dr Weil..but what he is saying here is in direct conflict to Dr Gerson, Dr Ornish, Dr Graham...about eating less then 10% of your calories in fat. Im more in line with what they say...lets look at nature...there is no fat trees growing. Carbs are foods. We can actually recreate our tastes buds to enjoy foods that are not fatty. This is crucial for folks to get healthier. I agree that he says that fat makes food taste better but we need to change that reality.
@Lakkhesis1976 "bit of indulgence??" Really? He is quite plump, obese in fact. He needs to lead by example if he wants to reestablish himself as a health guru. At this point we can pretty much write off his claims, or take them with a grain of raw sea salt.
"understanding of physiology isn't spot on" Well, either he's wrong or he ignores his own advice, thus a hypocrite or ignorant. Dr. Doug Graham is in pristine shape, living his own advice.
@Lochi801010 Get adequate essential fatty acids and fat soluable vitamins in correct ratios to nourish your brain, Durian Rider's veil will be lifted from your eyes and you'll realise you've been blindly following a liar.
You're right ! You can find essential fatty acids in:
flaxseeds, hempseeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds, avocados, some dark leafy green vegetables (kale, spinach, purslane, mustard greens, collards, etc.). Where is the problem ?
I've tried hundreds of diets and have been disappointed by 99% of them !
Raw Vegan gives me a lot of energy, -20lbs so far (only fat according to my scale) and a clear mind !
refined carbs and refined fats (oils).. I don't know if they cause obesity, but I'm sure they throw the human body out of balance- for example hormones, insulin, leptin, and also refined fructose really hurts the liver (cf Lustig).. Whole foods provide fiber, vitamins, minerals and other factors that might make fat, fructose fine. I think olive oil still a refined product. fat from avocado, dairy, egg etc best but meat requires animal death. Yes Weil ist overweight so how can he lecture us?
I think omega 6 itself is not the problem per say but rather that it is rancid or rotted omega 6. that people are eating. I ate extra virgin olive oil once off a spoon, and I almost vomited, I got the dry heaves, my body absolutly didn't like it, so I use it in salad dressings. I love my whole milk too. yummy.
thank you! it's amazing how this is STILL not part of mainstream knowledge. thank the pharmaceutical companies who are busy hawking their wares, i suppose.
So when olive oil kinda burns your throat or tastes slightly spicy it's good? Wow I thought mine was maybe rancid because of that.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that a man who is definitely not considered skinny, is lecturing on how "fats" don't always make you fat?...

Try virgin coconut oil...more powerful than olive. Never goes rancid!!!!! high in medium chain fatty acids, and vitamin K.
bootsinflow 10 months ago 4
@bootsinflow but it has a lot of saturated fat. Olive oil is a better alternative.
