Thinking about it now, I don't think it was because the show was about ninjas, but because it was about teenage ninjas. Like our TV heroes keep getting younger and younger. When I was a kid watching this episode at the part where Shredder was telling them about how it was he who made the mutagen, I could've sworn that there was also a scene where Shredder came to an open manhole with the canister of mutagen and looked around before pouring it down and then they cut to where Yoshi came in to see the turtles in it. I could be mistaken though.
