Im a Mac Fanboy, but In my opinion I think Windows was SLIGHTLY more advanced in the older days. Like Comparing Windows 95 to mac System 7. System 7 had speech, but Windows had internet. Windows 98 had memory protection, Mac OS 8-9 had internet. Memory protection finally came with OS X!

well at the time windows 1/ 2 were around, apple were pretty much the main computer manufacturer. The choices were pretty much pay for a mac/lisa/apple or get a far more basic OS for free. thing was that windows at the time was about equal, range of software and all, to the low-end OSes that were available. the only thing that split windows apart from the freebies is that it had a gui that copied the mac's., albeit windows was about as arcane as the freecmd-line systems it was competing with.

Hey, NO tech-aware guy will ever forget the unique contribution of the Amiga team to the computing world! I'm a Mac guy trying to remind people that it was Apple that first introduced the Graphical User Interface (Windows, Icons, etc.) and the mouse. But I'll never forget loading up on my Amiga 500 a whole graphics-editing application from a floppy disk for 'heavy duty' works, while viewing images & office documents & at the same time listening to music (REAL multitasking on 80's hardware!)
