I don't get your arguing, but i know one thing for sure. If you say Tarja isn't opera singer, how has she sung many opera songs, had many live performances (check plovdiv, not so long ago) and sounded wonderfully there?
tbh, I found her solo album before I found her Nightwish work, and I like her better as a solo act. Although I wish she'd do contemporary opera. I feel like she'd win at it.
Tarja was Nightwish! it's their loss! I will continue to support her. There are 2 sides to every story. Just because they post a letter doesn't mean all the facts are being revealed. Enjoy her music and stop hating on her. No one twisted anyones arm to play this video!

I just have to say that Tuomas Holopainen made a huge mistake in letting her go. They don't even come to L.A. anymore because of lack of fans. Tarja's voice is angelic.

I honestly wish people would quite bringing Nightwish in Tarja related vids. Yes she was in Nightwish, we know. But common can't we just talk about how beautiful her music is instead of putting Nightwish down as well. Obviously Tarja is happier with where she is so ya know what? The break up was good. Both Tarja AND Nightwish are doing well for themselves.

@Leninthebaws They're last CD was their best selling yet, I think they're doing fine. As Anette's "pop" voice, I don't judge what type a singer someone should be because of their voice (or because what apparently sound more mainstream). Otherwise that would mean Tarja should have just stuck to singing opera music, but she didn't. As for the quality, so long as Tuomas is still writing the music, I find nothing but quality in it.

But hey, if Tuomas Holopainen wanted to lead a mainstreet plastic band, good to him. I doesn't mean that I have to like it. And of course mainstreet sells, especially after that media mess that was born when they kicked Tarja out.

@ZeZininenWalomiekka Well I wouldn't say a singing voice is what makes a song a genre. That is more based on the music. But her voice does add a different style to it. But if it sounds pop that is more Tuomas's fault than Anette's.
And sadly, no, there isn't. All we have are pop, rap, and country. Mostly.
Well only thing I could say though is just look at it like another band. If you don't want to that's fine. I just think it's something worth listening to. :)

@ZeZininenWalomiekka Personally my favourites so far are Scaretale, Slow Love Slow (which is a jazz song btw, just a warning in case you don't care for jazz), Ghost Rider, I Want My Tears Back, and Song of Myself.
I think she improved a lot in this CD, her and Marco. But if you still don't care for her voice, then that's your choice :)
@Dollreviewz155 Listened something like 6 minutes of the first song. I liked the way the song changed many times, but Olzon sounded like a 7-year-old-girl who is singing to her nose and after listening to power metal and symphonic songs of Blind Guardian, the start just wasn't powerful enough. And I stopped listening cause the song really bored me. Yeah, not for me anymore, but at least that song wasn't so mainstreet as Amarath, Bye Bye Beautiful and Eva were.
@Dollreviewz155 my question regarding Anette's voice is How much did they tweak it to get that sound on new album. By this sunday we should have videos from LA concert and then from a cruiseship a few days later. If you compare DPP vocals from studio and live, they dont even come close. So that is my question.
@LazyBoy9476 Who's to say they even edit her voice at all? Why would they pick a singer out of 2000 just so they can edit her voice? Of course singing live is different from singing in a studio. And hell, I heard that Tarja sounded iffy when she first began. Much of it has to do with getting use to being on stage. And she has improved since she began. Plus there are ways in which you can tell that some editing has been done to someones voice. And I don't hear it on their new album.
@Dollreviewz155 yeah you do have to tweak someone's voice almost all the time. A full song is almost NEVER recorded at once. it is recorded in chunks. This is done to very single artist. Wait until Sunday, we will see what and how she is singing these days or screaming.
@Dollreviewz155 unless they wanted to get someone with whom they wanted to train the way they want it, i woud have never ever picked Anette to be a singer. there is just nothing hip or unique about her. The whole point of being a singer is being able to sing as close to live as possible. With Anette, her live and studio are 2 opposite worlds.Tarja sounds great but i just dont feel her soul anymore.
@LazyBoy9476 And there's really nothing that unique about Tarja's voice either considering opera singers aren't that rare. Both singers though have their pros though that the other don't. Tarja hitting notes Anette can't, and Anette have a more diverse voice. However not every singer is perfect live first try, especially considering there's a huge difference between singing in a studio and singing live in front of a ton of people. It's only bad if they don't improve and Anette HAS improved.
@Dollreviewz155 Tarja's voice isnt unique actually her range is limited. I hate when ppl go all Tarjaholic without understanding her voice has some major flaws. She optimizes her voicals quite well. Anette just agruvates my ears. Tell me about studios (sigh) i have seen singers do wonders in studio, live they suck! Take a look at Pittbull NOT classic example of that. You have pretty strong opinions but they are based on nothing. Not going to dissecate and prove that all you said is wrong, just want to clarify 2 things:
- "actually her range is limited." - of course, no human being has unlimited range. She has a huge LIVE singing range, way above an opera singer's. Her tessitura is enormous.
- "her voice has some major flaws" - I never heard such a naturally flawless voice, and I am listening opera since childhood.

Since my oppinion is supported by arguments and backed by reality.
Tarja uses classical techniques for singing, but also folk, rock and other techniques. Tarja sang "operatic" only on some songs until century Child. If you listen to her an hear "operatic", this tells a lot about your ear and culture.
This song (Angels of Light) for eg, has NOTHING operatic in it. What about Slaying the dreamer, or Tired of being alone, etc
@irenikus777 I learned to respect opera as a form of art. Tarja's diction is odd one. I don't quite understand even her english songs which is a gift and a curse sort of speak. She sung Ave Maria, I know German quite a bit, I could not figure out what she was singing.

Listen, opera princess, you can get all technical but you cannot deny that Tarja sometimes picks some songs that dont even fit her like Poison or Bon Jovi she did live. OTHAFA & Oasis sound great.
She may have picked songs that don't fit her, but not the ones mentioned by yourself.
Both were "fun-covers" but worked out excelent.
For eg after hearing her cover of poison, Alice Cooper gave her the copyright to put it on her album, and took her on tour with him as a special guest.

She probably sent him almost a final version of the song and he approved it. is it horrible? Not really. Is it better than over the hill and far away? I dont think so.
You cannot speak of diction when the singer is using classical technique. Popular singing like rock or pop means pronouncing a word in such way that it resembles musical notes. Classical technique means singing with your whole body, emanate the notes and make them sound like words. The purpose is pronouncing the words to sound better, not more literary.
@alessia79twnsnd there are at least 4 separate classes in my old uni on opera vocal that deals with diction. One cannot even get into those classes without completing at least 1 semester of opera class and they are specific on languages. It has to be taken with 2nd semester of opera class.
Diction per se - is a very important part of any music technique. But all those classes are meant to teach you how to form and pronounce words correctly from musical.. artistic POV.
Even foreign languages taught are "classical" - french, german, italian etc (no english btw at least in my country) - are there to teach you how to form a vocal technique, not to teach you to speak english like an american, or an englishman.
@alessia79twnsnd every foreign language class used to have accent/diction workshop not anymore - very sad. A lot of ppl in music major were taking foreign languages just to get into that workshop. English operas - nope never seen them here. it is German/spanish/italian. there is a video of Sarah brightman singing in russian aria from Onegin - my russian friends said they couldnt understand her at all. One of them is on youtube.
Tarja has a very good diction and pronounciation and sings in over 10 languages. Some she uses like a native (spanish for eg), but for english she kept a slight accent. My thought is that's intentional and I love it because it gives a dark/exotic touch to her voice.
There are artistical choices I wish she drops like the "lament" style in 1-2 of her songs, but the accent I really love.

My few friends speak Russian they all said you barely can tell. She knows Spanish fluently not suprized. Finnish language is very soft so soft spoken languages should be no problem for her to sing in

I honestly wish people would quite bringing Nightwish in Tarja related vids. Yes she was in Nightwish, we know. But common can't we just talk about how beautiful her music is instead of putting Nightwish down as well. Obviously Tarja is happier with where she is so ya know what? The break up was good. @Leninthebaws They're last CD was their best selling yet, I think they're doing fine. As Anette's "pop" voice, I don't judge what type a singer someone should be because of their voice (or because what apparently sound more mainstream). Otherwise that would mean Tarja should have just stuck to singing opera music, but she didn't. As for the quality, so long as Tuomas is still writing the music, I find nothing but quality in it.

And sadly, no, there isn't. All we have are pop, rap, and country. Mostly.
Well only thing I could say though is just look at it like another band. If you don't want to that's fine. I just think it's something worth listening to. :)

I think she improved a lot in this CD, her and Marco. But if you still don't care for her voice, then that's your choice :)

I liked the way the song changed many times, but Olzon sounded like a 7-year-old-girl who is singing to her nose and after listening to power metal and symphonic songs of Blind Guardian, the start just wasn't powerful enough. And I stopped listening cause the song really bored me. Yeah, not for me anymore, but at least that song wasn't so mainstreet as Amarath, Bye Bye Beautiful and Eva were.

And hell, I heard that Tarja sounded iffy when she first began. Much of it has to do with getting use to being on stage. And she has improved since she began. Plus there are ways in which you can tell that some editing has been done to someones voice. And I don't hear it on their new album.

Tarja hitting notes Anette can't, and Anette have a more diverse voice. However not every singer is perfect live first try, especially considering there's a huge difference between singing in a studio and singing live in front of a ton of people. It's only bad if they don't improve and Anette HAS improved.

Since my oppinion is supported by arguments and backed by reality.
Tarja uses classical techniques for singing, but also folk, rock and other techniques. Tarja sang "operatic" only on some songs until century Child. If you listen to her an hear "operatic", this tells a lot about your ear and culture.
This song (Angels of Light) for eg, has NOTHING operatic in it. What about Slaying the dreamer, or Tired of being alone, etc

You cannot speak of diction when the singer is using classical technique. Popular singing like rock or pop means pronouncing a word in such way that it resembles musical notes. Classical technique means singing with your whole body, emanate the notes and make them sound like words. The purpose is pronouncing the words to sound better, not more literary.

Diction per se - is a very important part of any music technique. But all those classes are meant to teach you how to form and pronounce words correctly from musical.. artistic POV.
Even foreign languages taught are "classical" - french, german, italian etc (no english btw at least in my country) - are there to teach you how to form a vocal technique, not to teach you to speak english like an american, or an englishman.

Tarja has a very good diction and pronounciation and sings in over 10 languages. Some she uses like a native (spanish for eg), but for english she kept a slight accent. My thought is that's intentional and I love it because it gives a dark/exotic touch to her voice.
There are artistical choices I wish she drops like the "lament" style in 1-2 of her songs, but the accent I really love.

@tkkcypher That's not for you to say. You aren't me, nor shall you ever be. Tarja's story resonates with me, I do not expect anyone to understand that, and with 90 likes as I write this, if she ever visit's this page the will of all who agree with me shall ensure that this is the first thing she see's. she may never even comment herself, but the possibility exists that it will be read. Also, I didn't get this from a site, I simply wrote from my heart. Something most people are too afraid to do.

@pyromidas Fair enough, though there is no reason to feel so incredibly moved by her. Her songs are hardly deep, meaningful masterpieces. They're just Neo-Metal songs sung in an operatic voice. Nor is she a rags to riches story. Actually, my cousin has worked in the studio with her and told me her band kicked her out because she was pompous, over confident and self absorbed.

@zekejammah16 Actually I should clarify, he didn't produce for Nightwish, but he works in the same studio they recorded at often, so he met them plenty of times and talked to the band members occasionally. There are hundreds of thousands of people working in the music industry, its not far fetched at all to think that someone can be in the same room as a band >_>

@Cookkooc1 she got booted from Nightwish, asked to leave hours after perhaps the most defining performance in her time there. The "end of an era" concert. Nightwish is less without her, and her career, though successful, is not what it should be. the betrayal she'd feel must be soul rending. that is the hurt of which I speak.
