hmmm, since the question is not yet answered here, the only thing physically would be the bridge, which can be a little more flat, so one can change strings quicker.
i don't know if it needs a beer once in a while... mine is no heavy drinker, and it's a violin - see the connection?
"What's the difference? Well there are many answers, anyway look at my pretty german violin, look at my neat shoulder rest, now listen to me play it. *video ends*" - A typical expertvillage video
not many people know that differences between fiddle and violin consists mostly in thinking style of interpretation and is very different position hands on the instrument...
such as the difference between classic ballet and Argentine tango...
however if you will start with classic in the future you will can play ANY style of music you want.
Can you use the same violin if you're left handed, or do you have to get a left handed violin? Can you just rewire the strings backwards like on a guitar?
so I suppose it's been stated earler but to make it clear the Violin and The Fiddle are the exact same instrument it's just how its played that definds it?? forgive me for not knowing...I agree as well that is a great song,I would love to learn this instrument!
What's that song called may I ask? This is my first year playing the violin but I absaloutly LOVE this song and I'd love to have the sheet music to play it or even the name. =]
Ummmmm.......Please someone correct me if I'm wrong:
The term "fiddle" is NOT an instrument. It's like a genre or style of music being played. A violin is its own instrument. Notice that when David picked up his German violin and began to play, he was playing fiddle music. There is only a sound difference in the way the music is being played. Whether it be played as classical or fiddle.
It depends on the venue and your attire when you play the instrument. If you are performing in a concert hall and you are wearing a decent clothes, they will say you are a VIOLINIST. Otherwise, people might refer to your instrument as a FIDDLE, which to me sounds better.
your doing good to have just started, don`t worry about getting a real expensive fiddle right now that one will do fine. you tube has great fiddlers just keep practicing and find the style u like best happy fiddling

The secret of the difference lies only in the name,
For a violin and a fiddle are exactly one and same.
You can dissect, poke and prod, or analyse and display them,
But the only difference you'll ever find is in the minds of folk that play them.

A fiddle plays very traditional tunes like Irish Jigs; Morrison's Jig etc.
Violin.. well not traditional tunes but I mean it's really just the same.
It's like saying kissing and snogging- just the same.

that song sounded very Irish

gummyfrog202 2 years ago
The bridge is asymmetrical, so it would have to be reversed as well, as well as the chin rest.
Short story, buy a left handed violin.
dgtucker 2 years ago
I'm left-handed, and it doesn't make any difference... in fact, I think it is a lot easier to play left-handed.
Also, you'll have to look high and low for a violin with the chin-rest on the right side if you want to play holding the bow with your left.
marmagot 2 years ago
it is the shallow tail jig. in a book of tunes anyone can play fiddle.

Um, well A fiddle can be called a violin. but most people don't do that..but you can call it a fiddle if you usually play fiddles. >_>
