  • "...aadh morader gha mere tui bacha...", remember?

  • I do love some of his writings and songs but I don't believe in blind worship. What I said earlier about his novels is true. Readers who have read his writings carefully must have noticed how self-effacing his women characters are. I'm sorry if my comments hurt some people's old prejudices but let me remind them that the Benagali poet also launched maverick attacks on other literary figures. He criticised Michael Modhushudon's writing a lot. And besides he also wrote "ore nobeen ore amar kacha.

  • I CAN'T BE MORE THANKFUL TO U- TUBE FOR THIS PARTICULAR SONG BY THE MAN FOR WHOM HAVE GREAT RESPECT & REGARD.HE WAS ONE OF THE FEW GREATEST HUMAN BEINGS IN THE WORLD AND HE WAS ALSO THE FIRST HINDUSTANI TO RECEIVE NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE FOR HIS COMPILATION OF POETRY NAMED "GITANJALI",OFFERING OF MUSIC.

what a good feeling.what he is saying in the song?

  • FANTASTIC

  • woww... thnzxxx..it feels so nyc to listen to kobiguru's voice !!!

  • He sounds like an old grandmother! What a peculiar voice! It wasn't enough for him to make his women characters prostrate again and again before all his male characters (including himself), he even had to write a song hoping to draw tear-taxes from women from beyond his grave!! What a pathetic song for Shorot!

  • @ritubahar A recording of 80 years old at his age at 70 ! Pretty old sounds somewhat feminine. But you should exert more sense in expressing your views in this open stage before commenting to such a person whom the entire world nations still continue to pay their tribute and deep respect !

  • bengali is 1 melodious lovely romantic language....... one of the best after sanskrit..... :)

  • @my7thsense, If i am not wrong, Ekla chalo re was published in 1905, by then gramaphone was available I guess.. and it was in 1941 the great soul left the world :)

  • @Legalsteps

You are 100% correct. Only a poet such as Rabrindranath Tagore can come close to God and be equal to a prophet!

  • none in the world will ever be able to create something like this... I live with pride only for him and thinking he was one of us ... he is greater than any great in the world.

  • none in the world will ever be able to create something like this... I live with pride only for him and thinking he was one of us ...

  • great song

  • The voice of His holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is so similar ! And both are Taureans too .. Fascinating ! Seems like His Holiness is fulfilling the vision that Gurudeb saw when he wrote the poem 'Where the mind is without fear'

  • @mohitl1985 lol ravi shankar.

  • The voice of His holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is so similar ! And both are Taureans too .. Fascinating !

  • wow this is awesome!

  • More than the quality of singing or recording, it carries some value which can't be measured. I believe this person as the GOD. Thanks a lot to the person who uploaded.

  • thnks for sharing it s a pure gem!!

  • very nice ..!

  • Rabindranath who had a versatile talent and a world famous personality , is not expected to be a highest quality singer and that is why he appreciated as well approved the songs sung by the then class singers of Shantiniketan , viz. Kanika ,

Suchitra Mitra and many others . Ranjit Das

  • God! Tagore's voice was so melodious! Never heard this great poet's voice before.

  • ......,such a guy sits at the echelons of greatness in India,....!!!..and telling all this honestly does not need me to be a bengali...!!....I even enjoy his bengali compositions (even the translations have an equal effect) from my close bengali friends. Its not about being a bengali or being a bihari ,its just about respecting and loving an iconic figure who contributed a lot in uniting whole of India with his pasionate and patriotic literature..!!

  • ..And when the person is the most reverred one whose sublime poetries, compassionate stories, and versatility with speciality in all the fields for which we have specialists today, who don't stand anywhere close to him, keep stirring the psyche of Indians even today

  • The great poet,scholar,academician,literateur,freedom fighter

.......and you adding the adjectives....the list never ends.

..!!..I have been greatly inspired by his short stories and

    songs since I my childhood..!!..

  • Thanks Gocha for the translation....

  • awsem....nostalgic..but is it true?

  • tagore's music sense was immense....thats smthng unique....2500 songs and as many compositions....he nvr claimed he was a grt singer.....neither he is not knwn fr his singing...we r lucky that we can hear his voice, because he did the recording...and his voice tenor is rich, forcefull, range is high...he holds his breath long....achievement given that he was upwards of 60 wen he sang this....and in tiring conditions of atmosphere and equipment

  • After this... My tears r not stopping........ I beleive I am s so called modern bong... But I still find tears in my eyes !!! And those who r estimating ''Gurudev's" voice quality should think whether they r eligible to do it.... Do u know what was the recording instruments / devices available that time ?? Its soulfull singing ! Tomay ki bhule jaoa jaay 'THAKUR' ?? I m also missing my grandpa today a lot............

  • is it real?

  • Could anybody please translate this....? I am dieing to know its meaning though I am getting the overall mood and I enjoyed it ....Please

  • I think saying that Tagore was not a good singer is like saying that Shakespeare did, not have good hand writing. I thought the tune and musicality are remarkable specially when he changes the raaga at 1:58 to enhance the sorrowful song. He is a true genius. Nashadraza

  • Thaks for posting this valuable piece. Only because of u, we wre able to listen and feel our unsee, and countless thoughts and imaginations through it. "Wow" u have no idea how many times I have seen this one just only to feel those moments. I'm sure that he didn't even realize at that moment that even after more than hunderd years later his authentic admirers would be able to hear his voice. That's awsome. Thanks a ton to u. Bravo !!!!!! MN, USA

  • This is why he's a famous poet, not a famous singer

  • The thought that this is the voice of Rabindranath Tagor himself is so thrilling!!!The quality of his singing is least significant.

  • The DVD was mass marketed in 1999

The CD was mass produced in 1982

The tape casette was invented in 1958

  • Beethoven was deaf. Euler was blind.

Anyone who can criticise Beethoven's music or Euler's Math ?

Remember Gurudev for his deeds which shall be immortal, his voice died with him, not his creations.

  • Kavi guru my salutation towards you.

  • my guru rabindranath is best rabindra sangit singer for forever. god bless him.

  • Somehow, it's always interesting to have the chance to listen to a great writer's voice. His voice is in keeping with his writings, warm-sounding, trustworthy and humane. About his singing: He possibly is a far better singer than most of the other Nobel prize laureates of literature :-)

  • Tagore does not need humans to survive. He belongs to that great stream of truth which transcends this material world, humankind and this planet.

We humans worship the Gods of various religions and the Gods of the various religions unite together in the innermost shrine of the heavens to worship the truth of Tagore.

  • old memories come flooding back-i look back at my glorious culture and look at what this single man has contributed..and i feel proud.

  • I had an old (78 speed gramophone) recording of Tagore's recitation of "Krishnakali". Its so difficult to get hold of pins to play the old 78 speed records ... haven 't played those in ages.

  • he is my only god, so his singing is the holiest chant to me

  • Tagore is the greatest playwright and author of the world.

  • God blees this man he is gr8

    Bhagwan usee lambe umra de

  • thanks for sharing this simply priceless treasure...

could anyone inform when it was recorded?

    ...from taiwan

  • My granddad (98+) had said that Tagore's original voice is a lot more melodious than it is in this recording. He said, that during Tagore's time, the recording technology had been extremely primitive, and had not been able to capture the melodious voice accurately.

  • Yes but I think modern technology is clever enough to re render the voice from the old recording to his original.

  • He has a fine light quality to his voice, what I think would be known as a tenor or baritone. I can't speak Bengla, or understand it very well, still I hear the flow of the words, and the poetry in the way it's sung. Truly one of my favorite authors.

  • @wannabedesi He would be a tenor.

  • @chatterjeemilan I wish you update this post after 2 years for the age correction.

  • @chatterjeemilan Despite the recording issues, the melody is awesome...the pain in the song can be visualised...

  • @chatterjeemilan I find the recording to be very tuneful, its amazing how this wonderful melody can stand so beautifully. Although, I am sure the recording doesn't do the man justice ;)

  • @chatterjeemilan prane siharan jage, rabindranath er nijer gaan, eto prem r eto adhunik, chirokal theke jabe-----

  • AWESOME!

Is there any possible way this man could have been greater?

  • thank you from all my heart , for uploading this masterpiece.

  • intersting,i never knew that any song sang by abndranath thakur. question how old was he then when he sung this song but honestly he did not impressed me(bad singer). does not amtter many people n r there to sing his song

  • Well to be honest his singing didn't impress me either.......But considering he's not known for his singing but his writing and the gift of melody that he had all through his life I don't think it matters. He'll always be our Bishwa-Kobi, good singer or not.......

  • yes yu r correct. Yes his literatuture is a gift to benagaly nation

  • hi, thank you for uploading the video. Can you plz tell me the name of the song?

  • Tobu mone rekho

  • @anindya78

in those days there was no proper media to store music or rather say recording of live voices. that's why his voice sounds like this. but his voice is far better than the we can here today. so don't come to any conclusion hearing this.

  • @altrnatvthinker - With all the stories, novels, poems he was busy writing, he probably did not have time to practice singing to improve himself as a singer. However, his singing is not too bad. If it was recorded in a modern stuidio, he would probably sound much better. His singing is still better than lots of the band lead vocalists in BD I think.

  • @mysteriumaenigma .i really doubt wheather you were honest commenting about his singing quality!lol.my experience is that god do not give all kind of quality to one persons except prophets. He was just a brilliant writer, thinker, poet, novelist, lover but just his voice was not good.but that is also no need ,there are many people who can sing his song with nice voice and present to people generation to generation.that is only important

  • @altrnatvthinker - Yes I am honest. His singing was not too bad. The ornamentation that he did, lots of the band singers in BD today can not do that with their voices.

  • @mysteriumaenigma . he is a great gift to atleast the bengaly nation and i guess yu r proud of him as i am too. i oppposed you for the sake of just discussion and nothing more.i hope you r a proudy bengaly as i am.i wil avoid here your reference anything about in bangladesh.long live both bengal

  • i liked it a lot

  • mone to rakhboi thakur :) tomake bhulle je manush jonmoi bhule jete hobe .. thank you so much anindya78 for adding this song to youtube

  • Very differently good. I never thought I would listen to a song sung by the great poet himself. I always wonderd how he would've sang his song. Marvellous..

  • When we were children, we never really appreciated his voice, since it sounded very feminish.

After several decades, as I get closer to my end, this voice sounds so sweet and melodious.

Anindya - may God bless you for making an old man happy, for having posted this..

  • Anindya,

Thank you and God bless you for putting this up.

However, it is extremely disturbing to see some of the ugly comments written by an user about Tagore.

I have maked them as spam. Is there a way, that Google could help is blocking such users?
