I'm honestly surprised to hear about so many churches doing away with the processional. I serve as the Minister of Music/Director of Music Ministries at my home church and if I ever tried take the processional out, those choirs would seriously put a hit out on me. Something so simple & traditional can set the tone for the worship and praise experience. I honestly can't believe people don't remember the last time they've seen this tradition in the church. @505853 Love is not nor will ever be in the tradi' baptist sunday churches. @zion3631 I am a student at a very prominent theological seminary. This seminary is not supported or endorsed by any Baptist body. My friend, having faith and trust in theology if like having faith in faith, pointless and weak. I would suggest, in Christian love, that you visit a seminary and see what it is that is taught. The sabbath that YHWH commands that we observe is on Saturday. This practice of sabbath on Saturday is still held by the Jewish people and by various 7th day denominations.
@505853, To show I have love I will continue to have a dialogue with you even though you r learning and soon will be teaching the theology based on lies that your seminary has been teaching these false pastors for many years. First, get your Bible because we will be here forever without the Book we get all Wisdom from. I do not want to have the polity & autonomy of a baptist religion based on man's separation form the so called church. I had more than enough from my youth & early twenties.
@zion3631 My sister, you have no clue what is being taught at the seminary that I am attending currently. As a Baptist, I hold the Bible in high regard and authority. I have no desire to debate scripture with you; that would be counterintuitive. You have shown me in your response that you are in over your head. The anabaptist movement was originally intended to reform the church, not to split from it. You talk in circles and are frankly unsure of your foundation. You seem upset with the Church.
@505853 I know actually whats being taught like I told you it's all the same when you read, reserach, talk to people, ask them questions. All the same lies and just like you they say "I don't argue the Bible". Well, we never argued the Bible because you never got yours to read nor showed me one scripture answering my questions. "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." 2 Tim. 4:2.
@505853, is it scripture or another book? And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books [there is] no end; and much study [is] a weariness of the flesh. Ecc. 12:12
@505853, are we trusting theology, baptist tradition, Baptist autonomy, or the Words of Jesus Christ. I am a follower of Jesus "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." Exo.20:8, Deut.5:12 "Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, AS THE LORD thy God hath commanded thee." (It does not say as the Jewish commanded you). He was speaking to them because other nations were too busy worshiping idols god like the sun. Israel was then told to teach other nations the same thing
@zion3631 Jesus is not recorded as speaking in either of the passages that you have listed. We worship on the first day of the week, called Sunday, not in recognition of the sun, but of the Son of God who rose from the grave on Sunday. Each Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection. For you to say that I am worshiping the sun is like me saying that you worship saturn. You are not Israel. Do not forget that the God of the Jews is the God of the Christians. Your ignorance is exhausting.
@505853 Please count from friday evening to sunday morning? Count and tell me your answer? Does it match the Biblical scripture of Jesus in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights as Jonas? They teach you to change the sabbath and to teach others. Some they will pay you to do the same. Will the prosperity really be worth breaking the least of his commandments? What did Jesus say about those that break the least of his commandments?
@505853 "And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this... Mark 6:2. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. Luk 4:16 ... to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Luk 4:17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet..Luke 14:17-18
@zion3631 Jesus was a Jew. That is why he preached in the synagogue on the Jewish sabbath. What are you arguing against? I cannot sooth your soul's ills. I know of one who can; He is Jesus Christ of Nazareth. You need to stop talking on youtube. You should lie prostrate and pray that the God of all wisdom, peace, and understanding would give you wisdom, peace, and understanding. Gods concern was not a change of the sabbath but, the loss of the sabbath.; a day of rest.
@505853 okay so you know what i know Jesus was from the tribe of Judah, a Jew. He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day which we all know was appointed by God not man as the 7th day. So, again you chose to worship on the first day, sunday? When you know God made it Holy and Jesus continued to make it Holy and told all man to do the same? You are following a tradtion made by Roman Emperor Constantine not Jesus.

@zion3631 Sunday was the universal day of Christian worship because it is the day of the Resurrection, the day after the Sabbath, and the Feast of Firstfruits—which is why Paul calls Jesus’ resurrection the firstfruits of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:20). Since it is the first day of the week, it is also the eighth day of the previous week, the day of the new creation (the allusion in 2 Corinthians 5:17).
@505853 what you do is changing it. I observe and keep the Sabbath day Holy. Worshiping the True & Living God. You on the other hand do work on the sabbath, buying things like shopping. Once I new the truth about the Sabbath Day and researched I changed my ways as Jesus commanded us all. He Hallowed the 7th day from the other six days. Did you future bought pastor? You will soon stand up to read or just talk to people with smooth saying words on the 1st day, sunday. Not Christ-like.
@zion3631The Sabbath commandment does not require worship, it prohibits work. Worship can occur on any day. The synagogue originated during the Babylonian Captivity, not as a place of worship, but as an school to preserve Jewish heritage and religion in a foreign land.
In the first century, many Christians, both Jews and gentile “God-fearers,” continued to attend synagogue instruction on the Sabbath and then attended Christian worship on Sunday.
@zion3631 (continued) Many Christians celebrate Sabbath on Sunday in keeping with a practice that was began by the first century Church. Many Christians meet on Sunday in recognition of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptist are actually quite far from the roman catholic tradition. Catholics observe 7 sacraments and Baptists observe 2 ordinances( believers baptism and communion). We immerse and catholics sprinkle. Catholics believe in trans-substantiation, baptist's do not.
@zion3631 (continued 2) you have engaged a learned individual. I am a Christian who practices according to the Baptist tradition. It is unfair to say that all Baptists are wrong, because of Baptist Autonomy. Individual Baptist congregations may do, and believe, as they see fit. You have no clue of congregational governance, Baptist polity and autonomy. Baptist are like roman catholics in that we believe in the risen Jesus and that He will come again to receive His children unto Himself.
@505853 you have learned lies. Please read the Bible for yourself not their made up traditionally doctrine. "To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this [is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken." Isaiah 28:12-13.
Check out the decorum of the choir. No talking to the saints in the pews, no purses hanging on the ladies shoulders, no large earrings and the choir included in devotion - not coming in afterwards. This is a great example...
I respect everyone's beliefs, but what has always been interesting to me is that in most of the baptist churches like this one, there are only african-americans, why there are not asians, hispanics, white-americans, ect? Just a question. Peace!
@roberes34-if there are no asians, hispanics, or white americans present it is simply because they choose not to be there for the predominatly black church has Always Opened it's doors to All that choose to come in and worship with them for the Welcome mat is for Everyone including You, so "Come On Down".
Thanks a lot, I liked the answer. I just love how in these churches they sing gospel and of course the devotion. I hope one day I can join one african-american church and sing and have fun worshiping the lord. Peace!!!
We have our own unique history and culture in this country. We have our own music and way of singing and praising god. It is a Black American thing. When I go to a Black church, I reaffirm my history, my people, my culture, and history in this country that is like no other.
Yes indeed, this simple tradition sets the tone for true worship! A wonderful hymn, the choir gathered for prayer before taking their place. It's reverent and sets the tone for the service. Save the cheerleaders for
One of the things that attracted me to the church that I attend is the fact that they still do introits and have a hymn of procession every single Sunday. I LOVE to see the choir in the robes processing into the sanctuary. I love the Baptist tradition of having a choir march in and having the congregation stand and "receive" them.
I tell you what you don't see any more, a traditional church keeping thing so simple, a processional, a strong prayer, ORDER. Todays church has become a game show in many cases. how can i outdue the other. There chior is bigger than some church congregations. and we say that they are wrong. sounds like old school is the true way. get back to it and receive.
How majestic is a processional, praise teams are ok but they in my opinion can never duplicate the beauty and spirit found in a processional of the saints marching.
My church is very traditional and I love it. We a quite a Southern Baptist church. You know an introit, then the processional. The morning prayer followed by a choral response and then Anthem. But I have to tell you I love this posting. These people have come for worship. The entire church is singing. I feel the Spirit in this church, Nobody yelling and screaming the lyrics. Just marching into Zion sing and praying.
I can't remember the last time I saw a choir marching in. I thank God I came upon this video. I'm old-fashioned. If I lived in the area where this church is, there is a possibility that I just might become a part of this assembly
what does the word say about the hyms. stop bringing so much of the world into the church and maybe when we come into the church we will be able to see a true difference. isten to the pray. 125 years. sound like they know what they r doing. some time we need this. if your complaning about how they worship God, the same God you call on, you better check and see what "god" your serving. this was truly a blessing to me thanks for posting, and contunie to life up the Name of God. bless you much
Thank you Tygtback, I agree with you. This church is in the begining of worship! No no grand standing, no putting on. They are marching into His house to give Him the praise. Glory and honor. When I'm in a church like this and the saint come marching in, like this. I feel like...Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
I'm sorry but I am Methodist and we get a bad rep from other denominations as being boring, but this "Baptist" church processional is the most boring thing I've ever seen. They sound so dreary that they are making me feel like I'm watching a funeral procession.
The Organist or Choral Director seems to have no musical training or training in Worship. The Processional sets the mood/tone for Worship. This song is no processional; at best it is one for Altar Call or Invitation to Christian Discipleship. What is even more sad is this is a Baptist Church, a Church that is known for its hype or hand clapping worship style.
I completely agree. The Choir Director should have chosen a different song for the processional and saved this for the Altar Call. Still, even Invitation songs have more pep than this. I feel so depressed listening to this. Btw, I feel that Altar Call and Invitation to Christian Discipleship are two different things and shouldn't be combined. What do you think?
You said watching a funeral hahahaha... OMG Iol. I agree that this song should have been for alter call or something not the processional. I thank God our choir doesn't "march in" anymore. The song was played greatly though. I also agree that alter call and invitation to Christian discipleship are different but in my opinion can be combined only if no one comes during the invitation then inviting the congregation for alter pray is ok.
Lol but the choir processional is a cornerstone of Black churches. We have been marching in for years, but now all of a sudden churches don't have the processional anymore. At my grandmother's church, the choir actually marches in with the ministers. Maybe choirs are too big for this now, but I still prefer the processional to just walking onto the choir stand like I prefer a pastor to wear a robe. Nothing wrong with other ways though.
I was so glad when our Pastor allowed us to stop marching... I couldn't stand marching in the choir OMG I can't tell you how much I disliked it lol. Maybe it's because I never understood the significance of it, or it's purpose other than here comes the choir but I never knocked it. Now, we assist with praise & worship so we're just in the choir loft during that time. I can't stand robes either :-) but they are very beautiful
Lol, I hated wearing the robes too, but they were nice I guess. They choked my neck when I used to sing on the Junior Choir, but my momma thought they were cute. I think that some of the churches have done away with tradition but have also lost their spirit. Now churches are so new fashioned that you don't even know you're in a church anymore. People see church as their entertainment for 3 hours on Sunday, when it's supposed to help sustain you and draw a communal closeness to God.
Well, I never had much of a neck so that part didn't worry me ha-ha. I agree, some churches have lost their spirit but I can't put the blame on the fact that they've done away with tradition. It has to be deeper than that. Doing away with tradition and bringing a church up to date in my opinion just cannot and should not be the reason that some churches have lost their spirit. There has to be a deeper, bigger reason somewhere under the service. Something had to go wrong somewhere because if the
CHURCH was operating as the CHURCH that GOD himself intended us to... there wouldn't be any reason for us to dwell in what we call the "house of God" and his presence not be felt. Something is indeed wrong somewhere and it goes beyond the new practices and beyond traditions dying out and until we as "THE CHURCH" which God called us to be, until we begin to fast & pray & seek God for healing, deliverance & restoration many of our churches are going to stay in the shape they're in "jacked up"
We are supposed to be the "Temple of the Holy Ghost," but the actual foundation of the church itself has lost that. That's why our churches have no spirit and need restoration and deliverance.
Marching in is just as significant as any other part of the service if you are praising God, wheter a church does it r not, it's all about praising the Lord using what ever routine a church decides for it all is suppose to come from the heart, if it does not then whatever one does it is in vain and a waste of their time and God knows when one is for real by living a Holy Life 7 days a week, not just only on Sunday.
I believe that some tradition should be remembered, and preserved. This is a really historical ritual of the church. However, as an organist, I probally would have given the song a shot in the tempo. I do not go for the dancing in the isles, when you are in processional. Unless you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
I agree but this choir processional needs some pep to them. Our mass choir always marches in to "We've Come This Far by Faith," and that preserves the tradition and gives some energy to the choir.
The musical director said "he's special." And that was the end of it and he continued his sermon. Well, I left after the service and never went back,...I couldn't. So anyway, I have my good memories from my youth in the church and I go to church, my style, on YouTube. Thanks for posting your services. There is only one GOD and only one heaven. GOD Bless and peace to you all.
BoboBerlinsky, NEVER let ANYONE stop you from getting what GOD has for you! Whoever the minister was, that was sheer ignorance. If I was the pastor of that church I would have sat him down and preached myself!
I volunteered, as a professional musician to help with the music program. Everything was going good and then, one Sunday, a visiting minister from Detroit was there. It was a big deal and the church was full, and the choir and the kids choir did a great job. There must have been 200 people there. In the middle of Mr. Detroit's sermon, he looks at me, the only white person, and asks, "what's he doing here?" I was shocked. I said nothing. He asked again. I said humbley, I'm helping. -con't-
Are white folks allowed to attend? I ask this because I am white and many years ago I was a member of a baptist church like this in a "mixed neighborhood" where everyone got along. I as a lot of people, stopped going to church for many years. But as the years passed, I wanted to get involved again. This Baptist churchin' is what I grew up with. I love this straight-forward approach to worship. I tried to get involved with another Baptist church recently, I was the only white one there. -con't-

Not Christ-like.
zion3631 1 year ago

I love this kind of singing and ritual. It is not entertainment. It is worshipping and is a spiritual thing.

Brings back memories of when I went to a "Black" Baptist church. One of the best parts of the service for me. Thanks for the beautiful memories.

I respect everyone's beliefs, but what has always been interesting to me is that in most of the baptist churches like this one, there are only african-americans, why there are not asians, hispanics, white-americans, ect? Just a question. Peace!
roberes34 2 years ago
@roberes34-if there are no asians, hispanics, or white americans present it is simply because they choose not to be there for the predominatly black church has Always Opened it's doors to All that choose to come in and worship with them for the Welcome mat is for Everyone including You, so "Come On Down".

Thanks a lot, I liked the answer. I just love how in these churches they sing gospel and of course the devotion. I hope one day I can join one african-american church and sing and have fun worshiping the lord. Peace!!!

@shadhom

IceTreyMan 2 years ago
I tell you what you don't see any more, a traditional church keeping thing so simple, a processional, a strong prayer, ORDER. Todays church has become a game show in many cases. how can i outdue the other. There chior is bigger than some church congregations. and we say that they are wrong. sounds like old school is the true way. get back to it and receive.

This is so true! Church has fallen off a whole lot because people have lost their focus!

V334432 2 years ago
The processional set the tone for the service. Back in the day, if you could walk you marched. I miss these times.

125 years. sound like they know what they r doing. some time we need this. if your complaning about how they worship God, the same God you call on, you better check and see what "god" your serving. this was truly a blessing to me thanks for posting, and contunie to life up the Name of God. bless you much
tygtback 3 years ago
Thank you Tygtback, I agree with you. This church is in the begining of worship! No no grand standing, no putting on. They are marching into His house to give Him the praise. Glory and honor. When I'm in a church like this and the saint come marching in, like this. I feel like...Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem.
V334432 2 years ago
I'm sorry but I am Methodist and we get a bad rep from other denominations as being boring, but this "Baptist" church processional is the most boring thing I've ever seen. They sound so dreary that they are making me feel like I'm watching a funeral procession.
scohazz7174 3 years ago
The Organist or Choral Director seems to have no musical training or training in Worship. The Processional sets the mood/tone for Worship. This song is no processional; at best it is one for Altar Call or Invitation to Christian Discipleship. What is even more sad is this is a Baptist Church, a Church that is known for its hype or hand clapping worship style.
MethodistPreacher 3 years ago
I completely agree. The Choir Director should have chosen a different song for the processional and saved this for the Altar Call. Still, even Invitation songs have more pep than this. I feel so depressed listening to this. Btw, I feel that Altar Call and Invitation to Christian Discipleship are two different things and shouldn't be combined. What do you think?
scohazz7174 3 years ago
You said watching a funeral hahahaha... OMG Iol. I agree that this song should have been for alter call or something not the processional. I thank God our choir doesn't "march in" anymore. The song was played greatly though. I also agree that alter call and invitation to Christian discipleship are different but in my opinion can be combined only if no one comes during the invitation then inviting the congregation for alter pray is ok.
andsowhat28 3 years ago
Lol but the choir processional is a cornerstone of Black churches. We have been marching in for years, but now all of a sudden churches don't have the processional anymore. At my grandmother's church, the choir actually marches in with the ministers. Maybe choirs are too big for this now, but I still prefer the processional to just walking onto the choir stand like I prefer a pastor to wear a robe. Nothing wrong with other ways though.
scohazz7174 3 years ago
I was so glad when our Pastor allowed us to stop marching... I couldn't stand marching in the choir OMG I can't tell you how much I disliked it lol. Maybe it's because I never understood the significance of it, or it's purpose other than here comes the choir but I never knocked it. Now, we assist with praise & worship so we're just in the choir loft during that time. I can't stand robes either :-) but they are very beautiful
andsowhat28 3 years ago
Lol, I hated wearing the robes too, but they were nice I guess. They choked my neck when I used to sing on the Junior Choir, but my momma thought they were cute. I think that some of the churches have done away with tradition but have also lost their spirit. Now churches are so new fashioned that you don't even know you're in a church anymore. People see church as their entertainment for 3 hours on Sunday, when it's supposed to help sustain you and draw a communal closeness to God.
scohazz7174 3 years ago
Well, I never had much of a neck so that part didn't worry me ha-ha. I agree, some churches have lost their spirit but I can't put the blame on the fact that they've done away with tradition. It has to be deeper than that. Doing away with tradition and bringing a church up to date in my opinion just cannot and should not be the reason that some churches have lost their spirit. There has to be a deeper, bigger reason somewhere under the service. Something had to go wrong somewhere because if the
andsowhat28 3 years ago
CHURCH was operating as the CHURCH that GOD himself intended us to... there wouldn't be any reason for us to dwell in what we call the "house of God" and his presence not be felt. Something is indeed wrong somewhere and it goes beyond the new practices and beyond traditions dying out and until we as "THE CHURCH" which God called us to be, until we begin to fast & pray & seek God for healing, deliverance & restoration many of our churches are going to stay in the shape they're in "jacked up"
andsowhat28 3 years ago
We are supposed to be the "Temple of the Holy Ghost," but the actual foundation of the church itself has lost that. That's why our churches have no spirit and need restoration and deliverance.
scohazz7174 3 years ago
I totally agree... Say it again! lol
andsowhat28 3 years ago
Marching in is just as significant as any other part of the service if you are praising God, wheter a church does it r not, it's all about praising the Lord using what ever routine a church decides for it all is suppose to come from the heart, if it does not then whatever one does it is in vain and a waste of their time and God knows when one is for real by living a Holy Life 7 days a week, not just only on Sunday.

daltanrisha 3 years ago
I believe that some tradition should be remembered, and preserved. This is a really historical ritual of the church. However, as an organist, I probally would have given the song a shot in the tempo. I do not go for the dancing in the isles, when you are in processional. Unless you are filled with the Holy Spirit.
THGMusic08 3 years ago
I agree but this choir processional needs some pep to them. Our mass choir always marches in to "We've Come This Far by Faith," and that preserves the tradition and gives some energy to the choir.
scohazz7174 3 years ago
what choir marches in like that? thats pure damn laziness

-con't-
