@mustachos1993 why does everyone assume a v12 makes a shitload of hp?? its just a different way of doing the same thing, they just deliver power more smoothly. Also...can you try to remember this is an 80s car?? In 1985 this car made 285bhp with a 5.3l v12 while corvettes were only making around 200hp.
@arielatom03 Iv'e seen a stock 300ZX on ebay go for $36,000 abot two years ago. No one would pay that for a 968 or a XJRS so how is the 300ZX awful again? especially when when compared to those two.
@MrZLeroy92 lol...someone got ripped off. you can pick up a very nice 300ZX in Australia for less than 10 grand...probably even less in japan. then again, if by "about two years ago", you mean 2007, that was just before the gfc and cars were selling for silly prices back then. it would be interesting to do a price comparison between the 3 vehicles nowadays.
@MrZLeroy92 must have been a turbo.. theyre only worth that much as VIRGINS with super low mileage.. its hard to find a 300ZX TT that hasnt been modified or ruined in an attempt to make it faster, what you're buying is the car's virginity... piece of mind that some jackass hasn't built himself into a corner and sold the car in a desperate attempt to cut his losses and get out while he still can
@DThaeman LOL Yes the Turbo ones. You're probably right about the car's virginity and the piece of mind it gives you...but yeah i still see them go for somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000 easy and yes even modified ones and every once in a while more than $20,000. It's all on the condition because i definitely see some that sale for less that $10,000. Good observation though.
"...5.3L or 6L V12 that puts out a whopping 60hp / liter and 340 ft lbs is very refined..."
Thanks for reading my mind - but actually put a full pint glass on top the engine and take the revs up to around 5,000rpm ......that what I call refinement. I don't see many 20 and 30 years old Porsche's a being driven around - I still see Jags that age. Strong overengineered engines.
@george385 Well i'm not sure where you're located but here in Phoenix where summers put coolant systems to the test there are plenty of 20-25 year old 944's and 951s around, plus all the 911's and 930's from the 70's and 80's that are hard to tell of their age because well, lol the design didn't change much so it makes it hard to tell how old it really is. Jaguar XK Roasters and the E-types are still my favorite Jags but those are so rare unless you hangout with guys that own them.
@drewnashty I'd certainly agree with you about the Jag air con - those years were pretty lousy at effective cooling once they had got on a bit. I've had several Jag and each one of them have had to have work done on the air con. My current (daily use) X300 works far better than the older Jags I've had. The Jag XJR-S/ XJS 'letter box' style of air inlet at the front also does very little to cool a half ton engine when stuck in the lousy UK traffic as well. But I still love the look of the XJR-S.
@drewnashty That vid was taken in 1989 just before I took my 3rd DAN Iaido. I did use to teach Iaido but work commitments put pay to any free time of my own. I still practice though and this year I'm going to have a whole lot more time and money available to me to allow me to do what I want to do rather than what I have to do (to generate an income). I'm also planning an XKR purchase just after new year - not a brand new one but a recent model. Happy New Year to one and all.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and EFi injectors clean as new!
@prodkill you probably drive a bycicle or not a decent car :) cause everyone knows jaguar is a beautifull car and it has won prices with it's design, so shhhht
@george385 That's your opinion that you believe nothing came close, as an enthusiast to all cars I definitely wouldn't hold much to that opinion if you've never liked any Porsche at all especially if you think a 5.3L or 6L V12 that puts out a whopping 60hp / liter and 340 ft lbs is very refined. Jaguar markets to people like my grandfather who want a touring car that's great for club meets, showing off and paying someone else to do the work. Porsche offers to the DIYer the daily driven track car
The 6.0L V12 is a nightmare of an engine. It was way ahead of its time and for that reason its just difficult to keep in shape. I would know, I rebuild BL and post BL era Jags. To understand the mindset of a Jag owner, you would have to ask the old man with his 15 year old dog that he wont let die. It's a personal relationship.
Only a fool with no real knowledge would compare a XJS with a Lincoln Town Car. The XJS is only for a certain few who understand what a grand touring car is for. Yes they do require the employment of an intelligent mechanic and as any classic Jag, some cash to keep it up to top condition, and what that means is one VERY fast wonderful machine that is mesmerizing to drive.
If I set the cruise to 70 it's doing about 20. Touring in the past I've got 17, driving kind of normally. So, yes, to get 20 touring you'd have to be pretty light footed. Those are all US mpg - add about 20% to those figures for the UK gallon. Mine is a 5.3 HE.
I have never seen more rubbish talked about a car than the XJS - but I don't mind the haters - if it was more popular it would have cost me a lot more money! Just look at the price a nice XKE would set you back....
XJS rules and all the people slating it know it, secretly. :P
