  • Hey I am in the process of doing a engine swap in 78 firebird but I don't know if I should go with a vortec motor or a lt1. What do you think? Also how do you like it do you think its worth it? Because I can get a hold of a vortec 350 and lt1 for cheap

  • @kingcity510 I like the LT1, but the aftermarket for them sucks, theyre reverse cooled so the heads are diff from an old SBC, and the inakes are dry, they dont have water passages, so they are different, and the intakes also have a different bolt angle and pattern that traditional. The only things you can really do to an LT1 is heads and cam and rocker arms, everything else is diffferent. But personally, just put a LS motor in it, easy to do, easy to find, and a never ending aftermarket for them.

  • @slownova73 your wrong you can interchange the bottom end from a sbc with an LT1, valve train you can swap also, im talking cam, springs, rockers, lifters ect. even main bearings. you can even interchange LT1/4 parts with LS parts. like the lifters and rockers!

  • @TheLTXCamaro Yeah, im not wrong, i just forgot to mention that, i know good and well all about the LTx engines and the SBC engines, and what interchanges and what doesnt. Its "basically" the same damn motor as a SBC. different style heads and block and intake and water pump, all on account of the reverse cooling feature. everything else is the same as the gen 1 SBC

  • @kingcity510 The LT1 is nice, but it costs alot to make more power out of it, but if your just looking for a driver, nothing fast or all cammed up, then just stick a stock LT1 or a vortect in it. or a LS series, they all work. but im going LS. go to LS1tech.com. they have a LT1 specific section, and they have a "conversion and hybrids" section, lots of good reading on both those engines, they may be hard to find so you might have to search for them in that section.

  • thanks your car rocks

  • @MCMLXIXvr wait till i get my Turbo LS1 build finished for it! ;P

  • I have a 73 ss also just started how did you get the stance

  • @MCMLXIXvr dude its all stock beside air shocks in the rear lol, i wish there was more to it than that, thanks anyway.

  • Damn man nice Nova I also got a 1973 Chevy Nova SS. Its in great shape for its age. Its got a Big Bloock 396 in itwith a Holley Double Pumper Carbureator. It has stripes that go up the hood and down the back of the trunk. Its awesome. Btw what is with the switches on the side there?

  • @tlee2014 thanks bud, sounds like you have a nice nova as well, the switches control the elctric water pump, fan and fuel pump, and ignition

  • I dont know why i thought it did lol but sounds real nice man

  • what flywheel did you use with the t56? im thinking about doing this to my 80 camaro

  • @heavy71chevy i have an aoutomatic TH350. not a t56, i wish i had a t56 in it lol

  • weres ur frtont bumper

  • @masonjewkes read the description, it was getting rechromed at the time.

  • i have a 75 nova and im trying do an lt1 swap but the motor mounts are not lining up? how did you do yours? any info would be much appreciated. very nice car by the way!

  • @matthewgleason75 well. mine bolted right up, did it come with a sbc from factory? i added a link to the description of a guys LT1 nova build, LOTS of info, some stuff on motor mounts too

  • @slownova73 hey thanks for the help i got it all bolted in but i cant figure out how to use the lt1 alternator. did you use the lt1 harness or the nova harness? thanks again

  • @matthewgleason75 i used the LT1 pigtail, and splice the factory wiring into it. works flawlessly

  • @slownova73 wow thats awesome thanks! but just to make sure we have the same wiring; is one of your wires much bigger than the pigtail wire? i have one big red wire and one small brown wire. and the lt1 has two small wires black and brown. is it brown on brown and red on black? thanks again!

  • @matthewgleason75

i think thats right, ill have to go check tomorrow, ill let u know!

  • @matthewgleason75

i beleive that is correct, i cant really tell on mine, but do like i did, i turned the ignition on and used a tester to figure out which was which.

  • @slownova73 thanks man you've been alot of help! ill post vids when shes done

  • @matthewgleason75 i will if i ever get around to it lol

  • This car is raw bro!!

  • not bad for factory paint scheme is it?

  • The black around the tail lights is pretty damn cool

  • Very beautiful Nova and very nice job on the LT1/carb swap. I'm swapping an LT1 into an 80 Firebird and I'm thinkin about sellin off all the EFI and switchen over to a carb setup such as this.
