Listen to the Arnold Schoenberg orchestral transcription of this piece. It really opens up new ideas about how to play it... even on the organ. I recommend the Esa-Pekka Salonen recording to anyone who's interested.
This and the Prelude are among my favorite pieces of music. Really enjoyed your performance and the tempo in which it's rendered. I really liked how you drew out the closing bars of the Fugue..some recordings, such as Karl Richter's hurry them too much.
Couldn't have done better myself. But I will work on it. Where is this organ and who built it? A magnificent performance. I loved the 32' pedal at the end.
The 32' pedal at the end is not boastful, it's perfect! Since the organ has it, why not use it? It's all bringing praise to God, which is what matters.
I understand what you're saying, about the pedal fifth. The higher octaves in the pedal make it sound a bit more "reedy" than it should. However, I have heard this done with a genuine 32' reed and the result is amazing. While not as good this way, it still works to make the end "bigger". It doesn't sound boastful to me, just making the best with what's available. To each his own, and the organist is entitled to do it the way he prefers, of course.
yes, i have a cd-recording. on my cd i´ve played: Marcel Dupre Präludium and Fuge H-Dur op.7, W.A. Mozart Fantasie f-moll KV 608, Franz Schmidt Toccata C-Dur, J.S. Bach Passacaglia u. Fuge c-moll BWV 582 and Julius Reubke Sonate 94th Psalm. I have recorded my cd in Linz (Austria) on the great Flentrop Organ at the Brucknerhaus.

maybe in my recordings there are some litle bugs, but it´s not a CD-recording and so the main thing is the music that i want to show. thank´s for your posting. a good question has to get an honest answer.
That's great! Youre playing is really of the quality for concerts! At 03:43 in left hand, is this what is written or a mistake (that you recovered well!), because I noticed that and I'm not musician so, just asking!
Dear KB7777777,
can you please tell me the name of this organ? where is it located?
thank you, Cean

The touchstone of BWV 552 is the center part of the fugue. The
center part separates the wheat from the chaff.
Nonetheless I like the commitment in your interpretations. Something which is heard rarely in contemporary performances.

although have to say the 3rd section of the fugue is a bit too sticcato for my liking and a tad to slow

Wonderful!
Don't like the ending 5th in the pedal to produce a 32' resultant. Not needed. Boastful.
3:43 was merely an omission of a single note.
Impressed that jeanseborg caught it!
Wonderful tempo and articulation. Wish this could be in stereo. Not very clear on computer. Some notes stick out and others are hardly heard.
Thank you.

The artificial 32' is produced by playing a fifth in the pedal. It just doesn't sound right. There is no pedal fifth written in the music.
There is no need to do that little trick.
No Bach organwork should have a 32' reed.
A 32' flue and 16' reed is wonderful.
But never a 32' reed.

I agree with robertgift. Bach is already "BIG" enough even without 32' reed.

sorry ignore my post, I was thinking of another video in which the guy was playing the fugue a bit too fast, this however is great speed!
joeyboi87 3 years ago
is very good indeed although I found the 3rd section of the fugue just a bit too fast

this is concert quality playing. should you have records released, i won't hesitate to buy all. yeah i think just one note missed at 3:43

This is the Bach that I like: simple, clear, straightforward, almost geometric, perfectly enjoyable. Too fast? too good!
Very good. Thank you.

The tempo and the skill are good.
Only a little thing: If you can use the variations of registration, you can express much more nuances of tones.
(Perhaps it is not so easy, to change the registration, if man is playing alone.)
