This was a pretty cool game - a real hybrid of Mario Kart style racing and 3D platforming. It's a shame that SEGA killed its potential in typical fashion by rushing it out the door early.

I would love for SEGA to try this game again.

The game isn't bad, it just gets boring with time, but I recommend it for short periods of time playing.

Love this game.

I like the way that Sonic Gems Collection says Sonic R is for the saturn but the version there is obviously the PC version.

Never played this game on saturn...

Man the Sega Saturn Version has WAY better Sound Audio than the Game Cube Version!

@supermario932 Yes it does! I mean what was SEGA Thinking when they remade SONIC R?! The Graphics for the characters were ok, BUT The level designs were awful especially for Radiant Emerald! That stage could someone a Seizure! The Saturn Version had a NICE dramatic Color Effect to the stages that made them simply Beautiful compared to the Gems Collection version. Also the gameplay was more of a challenge in the SS Version compared to the GC Version and also everyone was faster and not glitched.

Nah, the PC and Gems versions are technically superior. They have random weather effects, you can see more of the track in the distance, the controls are a bit better, textures and backgrounds are much higher quality, and the character models are slightly improved. Additionally, the PC and Gems versions have 4 player, record times for individual characters, and less input lag. The Saturn version DOES have that transparent Radiant Emerald track though, which looks awesome.

@wsondermann84 - Really? I know for a fact that in the PC versions (or 2004 version of the PC version) you can get the Medals and the Emeralds in the same race and it'll both count!

whenever I play this game I always get the coins and the emeralds at the same time.. makes it pretty easy to get 100% fast... Love this game.. oh and it's much faster to go through the trees than take the booster, even with 50 rings. The more rings you have the faster you run as well. Just some tips for you

Is the 3D Saturn controller compadable with this game? I keep hearing complaints on the controls when using the D-pad, so I'm just wondering.

@craztax it should work with any game, it's just a saturn controller...

@garvensman yeah but I have some games on the satrun that will not use the joypad on the 3d controller, so I just wanted to be safe.
