  • Your video if definilty the most helpful! i was just wondering, i always seem to have a large strong of yarn between my two needles while i'm knitting! is this right? or is this not supposed to happen? thankss :D

  • Very easy to understand and follow. Don't know why I couldn't get it before, but your method of instruction worked very well for me. Thank you.

  • Thank you so so so much..it was exactly what i needed now that i mastered crochet and want to expand my knowledge to knitting also..been looking for a video that'll teach me how to work the "little V's" lol because i had no clue it was the purl and knit combined..thanx again!!!

  • Best video I've found! Thanks for going slow, and teaching me! :)

  • It may be out of focus, but by my reckoning its the best help on this subject... Nice and slow, with good description. Thanks! I've got to remember to remember to bring that yarn to the front... that's why no purls! By tomorrow it will be second nature...

  • @takedownpunch Aw.. thank you! And, yes, by tomorrow it will be second nature! God Bless

  • This was incredibly helpful :)

  • Thanks so much for this :) after looking round the internet for a while, still no more enlightened as to why my purl stitches don't work, I come across this video and it all makes sense now!

  • Thanks so much for posting this tutorial. I now know how to do the purl stitch. Thanks again! :)

  • I'm a beginner and this helped me so much! Great tutorial, thanks for making it :]

  • I didn't have a difficult time at all watching this vidio, I thought it was great ane very helpful. I like the way you took your time and you explained everything very well. I am just learning how to knit and yesterday I made my very first pair of fingerless gloves thanks to your vidio. So thank you...

  • Thank you do much. Nice, clear, concise and Slow for beginners to understand. Thanks again.

  • This was one of the best videos that explained the basics well. Thank you so much (:!

  • Yay! I got it!!! Thank you!!! :)

  • Thanks for the how-to, btw. :)

  • Thank you! I am a novice so I was having trouble with this - I didn't know the yarn had to be in front of the needle before purling.

  • same here, this was this ONLY how-to vid on you tube that points that important step out, THANK YOU!!

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!! You're demonstration was just what I needed (for the girls to dance about in knitted leg-warmers this winter!) Very appreciated... Merry Christmas xo

  • Great vid. Very clear.

  • Amazing video thank you very much for your help!!! ;)

  • Great video, very helpful, just would like to know how to start the pearl stitch on the new side?

  • Thanks, I've just learnt that I've been doing my purl stitch wrong all this time! ha ha, it seemed to work anyway, but I'll do it the right way from now on :)

  • Also, thanks to you, I JUST finally figured out how to do the k1p1 rib stitch! Thank you so much for such a patient, clear video!!

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you

  • This was very helpful. I had been reading a book on knitting and they were talking about moving the yard from the front to the back of for each type of stitch and I was not getting it correct at all. Nice to see a demonstration of exactly how that looks. Makes a big difference. Thanks.

  • Thank you for your clear explanation, and slow demonstration. I get it now, THANK YOU! And I also love your furniture :))

  • Thank you for your vid. I think I will be able to do this stitch now :)

  • thank you. I don't know what @sugarbobbin is talking about I think that you are perfect. you helped me so much and now i am working on the same stitch. your instructions were so slow and helpful to starters.

    Thank you so much.

    Take care.

  • you're great

  • brilliant! thankyou, very very hepful

  • Thanks so much, this has been driving me crazy, and all along it was something as simple as moving the yarn from front to back for each stitch! THANK YOU!

  • very helpful thank you!

  • I've been knitting for 11 years and this is the first time i've actually understood how to purl! thank you!

  • Hi :) thank you for this - I am just learning to knit and was stuck on a pattern that called for this, so thank you for helping me to get it right :)

  • very helpful!

  • Dankeschön!

It took me a second or so longer to learn how to do it because despite my right-handedness, I knit left handed (go figure), but the other vids I've found, either went too fast or I just could not understand for one reason or another and when trying to do it with the opposite hand just confused me even more.

    So thank you!

  • Great video. Thank you!

  • Very nice and easy instruction on how to! THank you SOO Much!

  • I learned to knit when I was very young and used to knit quite a bit. A few weeks ago I was at an auction and there was a lovely almost finished sweater in a box and apparently I still have the knitting bug because I finished the sweater while waiting for my items. It's great you put up this video to help out beginners. I found it pretty straight forward. Now I think I've got to find some nice wool for a sweater. :)

  • I would love to watch this but your beautiful furniture is in focused instead. :( Please focus your camera next time.

  • @sugarbobbin I'm sorry you had a difficult time watching this video. This camera is just a digital still camera and it is not possible to manually focus it. My hands were too close to the camera so slightly out of focus but that was the way I set the camera and it is what it is.... There are many others on YouTube who can show you this stitch. I'm sure you can find a better one if you search.

  • How come the space (thread ) between my needles gets wider and wider?

  • @ammaaskantable You are just working loosely. Ribbing does work looser than stocking stitch or garter stitch. This is the reason that most patterns call for smaller needle sizes when doing ribbing.

  • ahhh! im confused!!!!!!!! lol. just learned to knit about a month ago on just a basic knit stitch. now to do this, its every other stitch is knit or purl. so right after you cast on, you can alternate like this? when i do purl, after wrap the yarn around, where do you pull it from back and off needle! confused

  • @ilovekevasmoothies Hi I would recommend that you practice just the purl, until you can do that without thinking. Then combine the knits and purls in one row (as in the video) to make ribbing. You can do any combination: K1P1; K2,P2; K3P2, etc. And yes, you can start this right after a cast on. Happy Stitches!

    Jan

  • @granniejans yay! i am awesome at purling now! took me some practice- but its so easy now!! the ribbon effect looks really cool. what look will u get if you do every other row knit purl? thanks

  • @ilovekevasmoothies If you knit every row, you will have garter stitch - it is a bumpy fabric with ridges - it will lie flat. If you knit one row, than purl one row, you will have stocking stitch (also called stockinette). It is a smoother fabric with the characteristic 'little 'V's" on the right side and bumps on the wrong side. This fabric will curl, so you need to edge it with ribbing or with some garter stitch. I'm so glad you are enjoying your knitting! God Bless, Jan

  • @ilovekevasmoothies I should say, regarding the stocking stitch... you need to edge it if you are making something like a blanket or placemat, etc. that you want to lie flat. Otherwise, when you sew it up into a garment, it will be fine. (Do I make sense?)

  • @granniejans i am making premature baby caps.

  • @granniejans yep!! thanks :)

  • This is such a great how-to. lot's of instruction, great video (with no hands in the way!) and you do an entire row. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

  • thanks so much! This was a great tutorial ! I have only been knitting for a few months now and I am hooked! ;) thanks agian!

  • Oh my gosh!!! Thanks so much, I'm attempting to do a cowl and the instructions say to do this stick, but they are not very good instructions on the book. Thanks so much for the video!!!!!

  • This is such a good video! Lots of instructions and no hands in the way. Thank you so much!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I was having trouble. Trying to make my first SIMPLE sweater!

  • Oh I love my knitting this is great Jan.

  • @ilovemaniototo You knit, too! Thanks :)
