@solja2424 You'll need to buy Civilization 4 first, and then the Beyond The Sword expansion package. Don't bother with Warlords, all you get are a couple civs and scenarios, which you get in Beyond The Sword.
@Helge129 well yeah they invented it but they dont really know how to make it work and it takes alot of resources to make just a little bit of nanotubes.
I think there will be very hard to do a Space Elevator on real life, because besides the cable, there's the Earth's rotation and translation, and, counting that it moves something like... more than 485 pmh... we'd need to know how to use the antimatter (if I'm not wrong they're trying to do this with LHC). Well, I hope we have a Space Elevator in the future, but this will be VERY difficult to do.
I've started with the Khmer (SE Asia) from 4000bc, trying to go all the way into space.
The scope is awesome, feels epic knowing the cavemen you start out with starting a town on a river delta in the middle of nowhere eventually end up exploring the stars.
the only problem with space elevator currently is they cannot get a cable that is strong enough to support its own weight and yet weigh little enough to stay floating in space, this will be fixed by i believe nano technology creating thread from microscopic peices of a really strong material. It may not be nano technology i forget what its called exactly but basicly there working on making a material to suit the purposes of a space elevator.
It would work pretty much the way you see in the video clip. Space elevators are not real for probably at least a century, but basic tests are being done and all the maths says they are possible. The long cable is the hardest part and can't be built with present materials. It goes to a huge space station, captured asteroid or other counterweight that holds the cable taut and stationary relative to the Earth.
@TheFireball100 They arent real yet, but they believe they can do it. The cable would be made out of Carbon Nano Tubes, which is stronger and lighter than steel. The government and Nasa and many other companies are researching more into the possibility of it. And it would go to a space station. They want to make an elevator because its much cheaper than a Shuttle launch.
@noun12345 lol yeah since it will take several hours to get to the moon if we are to use that method, the elevator music is gonna be a constant terror.
Great game. But I wish with all of their expansion sets that they would eventually bring back to life the futuristic technologies like laser and plasma-based weapons, space-based cities, and a TON of non-military units that can actually win a war w/o an official army, and you can reverse globl warmin. All of this was in civilization: call to power. The game kind of gets boring when you can only get to jets, tanks, etc., and have no space craft or anything of the sort. Still it's a good game.
I know eh? Haha I used to play Civ Call to Power when I was like 7 and it was so fun! Just got Civ IV last night, sooo much fun lol, but a lot diferent from the game I had. Haha atomic tanks ftw!
This is the most useless wonder in the game..

Why haven't we built a space elevator yet? Apperantly you just tie a rope to a space ship!
godchildzor 1 year ago
@godchildzor the only material they can make the "rope" out of is carbon nanotubes, AND THAT HASNT EVEN BEEN INVENTED YET!!!!!!!!!!!
videocritic2463 1 year ago
@videocritic2463 I was a tad bit ironic...
godchildzor 1 year ago
@videocritic2463 That has been invented years ago, lol. The only problem is producing it in large quantities.
Helge129 10 months ago

videocritic2463 10 months ago
@videocritic2463 It doesn't take a lot of resources either, they just haven't figured out how to produce more than a meter or so at once.

how does really work? Are space elevators real? What about that looong cable? Where does it go?

they have a competition going on
part of it is going towards the machine that rides the cable
part of it is going towards a strong material!

It's good that game Civilization 4 used Space Elevator as a wonder. It is not just a wonder, but the gate to the space
xgalba00 3 years ago
not exactly a gate.. it's an elevator to space ;)
Duskson 2 years ago
You're right if you take my comment literally. Entrance to a space elevator can look like a gate, so maybe I am right too
