@gabeschlaf as far as kenpo 5.0 i will say b.s. you dont REMIX your so called style to merchandise it to people. secondly BJJ is the best period, why not admit it and then train in your secondary art? third you speak of combat as though you walk outside and have to fight for your life everyday.you are exactly the reason that kenpo 5.0(haha) is available. you pretend that you are a dangerous and lethal. but all you really are is a pretender, who has cool moves that dont work.
@ariassumarok Ok let me explain very slowly, there is a diffrence between the Ideal and the Real Deal. Ideal is for learning, and developing control of a strike, the real deal is self explanatory.
Jeff come on brother you know that open end triangle block bs wont stop a good roundhouse kick to the face and your cat stance lol please even if you do block the kick with that stance you will be kicked off balance brother standing like that giving time to the other guy to come at you with all his got
old martial arts are a gateway to real combat and self defense martial arts.kenpo is unrealistic in its approach to fighting but it does give an avenue to people who are hesitant to realistic fighting. many of my students started in traditional martial arts but found them lacking in realism. bjj is the best hands down but all martial arts make people better.
@TheMDBJJ To say BJJ is the best is just plain Ignorant. Although a very effective style, its often the man driving the car not the car that wins the race. Kenpo 5.0 has many techniques from BJJ, although I do feel one must complete it entire BJJ system to see the best results, very few have attained that accomplishement. It doesnt matter the style, if someone really knows what their doing you forked anyway.AS far as unrealistic goes, you obviously have little real combat experience.
please let that first kick just ride on through and destroy his front leg and proceed to beat the hell out of that canned defensive strategy garbage. Kenpo is better than this, man. I know it's taught this way to keep making money, but this stuff is beyond dumb. Maybe, if you had a fight and the guy said "hey, I'm throwing a fake kick" you'd get ready, but... PLEASE don't ever think this works.
@nomamao Yea cuz no man has ever gotten his leg broke by a low side kick to the knee, esp when he is standing on 1 leg. Techniques teach you a massive catalog of individual devastating moves. They are in a logical sequence for retention's sake, like words in a sentence. No Kenpo teacher has ever said that these techniques can be pulled off as-is on the street. These preset sequences on a dead 'dummy' are merely the first step of training, which is mostly all you'll find on YouTube.
@Deilgyre who plans a counter for a FAKE? NOBODY. That's the number one reason this is a garbage technique. If you treat the first kick like any other kick and cut off the distance and attack the standing leg, then that's all you need to do. Why this is beyond your Kenpo mindset is beyond me. Kickboxers all over the world KNOW this.
@nomamao He's not countering a fake, he's countering a widely used kick combination that's found in every MA that has kicks practically: Savate, Kickboxing, TaeKwonDo, etc.
Low fake to draw the opponent's hands down, then high kick to the head.
/watch?v=PuCv7xS3W4A
The follow-ups after the first leg destruction strike, are not written in stone or anything. They are just ideas. You could just blitz in after that with a flurry of reverse punches...if that's all you knew how to do.
@Deilgyre 1) take the 45 degree angle when stepping forward and away from the kick and cut-kick the supporting leg.
2) never bring your hands down to block a kick that's below the waist.
Done. That's how you deal with almost all kicks. It's more effective than this BS and way easier to do once you get the distance and timing down. It's even better if he throws a low feint to try and garner the dumb "hands down" option you spoke of.
@nomamao Roundhouse kicks are best dealt with an open-ended triangle block. The double roundhouse could have easily have been a groin/head double kick (no feint), so yea I'd rather have that combination inward+downward block/strike/check/trap (however it ends up being used) to protect my balls and head, then follow some arbitrary rule about not using an arm to block a groin shot.
Btw, all this I'm talking about applies to street fighting, not MMA with rules, gloves & groin protection.
Sorry but this 'technique' wouldn't work... First, the attacker is NOT going to be compliant and stand there while you strike him 6 different ways. If you can't do it at combat speed or sparring, it can't be done!
@gabeschlaf Yeah, cause you just go around like Fight Club and starts fights to test technique... That doesn't happen! Karate type sparring (point based) is for bitches... Full contact is it where its at! How else are you going to test your striking and defensive skills, weapons aside? Kenpo in my opinion has WAY more credible than most traditional MA. BUT, its still traditional and has failed to evolve.
Compliant attackers are a fallacy and luxury of training. Combat speed is the way to train!
@killerkravist Well actually you do go around looking for a honarable fight. How else would you truly test yourself. Their are plenty of semi-controled enviroment that has plenty of action. That said, people dont seem to undestand the diffrence between self defense and a toe toe fight. If I square off with some dude in a parking lot, it usually involves a quick trap and then a straight punch to his chin/nose and its done,If I were to have a dude pull a piece, his throught would go.
@killerkravist Kenpo has evoled. you can see it in 4.0 and you can see the evolution in 5.0. Its very foundation is based on evolution, much like Krav Maga. However you must still have they key components of any system in order to evolve it yourself. I agree with you on complient attackers, but you must download the movements to your hardrive so they become part of your system(sub-conscious). and can be adapted to learn from your attackers body.UFC has fogged so many minds.
@gabeschlaf Well said, movements must become instinctual. I grew up in traditional MA (Kuk Sool Won) and I always felt something was wrong. When I boxed as a kid my MA training had no benefit to me... Meaning, the moves where so complex that they weren't natural, some took years to master. I eventually left to do Muay Thai (just a year), and then Krav Maga. I've learned that the more complex the move the less practical it is. Gross motor skills a more critical than fine in my opinion!
@gabeschlaf Cont'd. There is a spiritual/physical side of traditional MA that cannot be ignored that provides great benefit! With that said, I don't think it should take YEARS to teach someone how to defend themselves. I've been in Krav for about two years now and the progression as compared to traditional MA in terms of physical ability, well there is none. Krav has it down to a street (and war) proven science that there style works... I can't speak on Kenpo though because I've never tried it!
@gabeschlaf that is bullshit. UFC has proven that complicated choreographed movement is bullshit. Traditional arts have always relied on blind following students, and betting on assumption that they will never have to actually use their "art" to defend themselves, and if they do and their methodology fails they can blame it on lack of skill because you didnt train long enough to get your gold star on your green/blue striped black belt with sprinkles. Big difference between real combatives and art
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES You're absolutely right, except MMA fighters have absolutely no clue how to defend themselves either. I train in Krav Maga and would rip apart an MMA guy is a few seconds.
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES First off 90% of people that are involved in MMA or teach MMA are bullshit, 2nd anybody with half a brain knows the diffrence between the Ideal and the Real deal.3rd 98% of American Kenpoist's and other martial artist's are bullshit. The only truth is through training and actual combat.Putting on neon tights and wrestling men has never appealed to me,it does have its benefits.Same goes for the Tourney tough guys.Nothing beats the street.I practice EPAK & Krav.
@HYBRIDCOMBATIVES EPAK is not a traditional art, and further more 5.0 is even less traditional. EPAK's enitre main idea is that it's not traditional.Ed Parker was a rebel breaking away from the restrictions of traditionalism in the Martial arts.As well as the Emperado Bros/.EPAK is only about 10% actual kenpo. It has boxing, wreslitng, and many other styles. EPAK is more about how to move with the most power while consuming the least amount of energy, while utalizing geometry.
lol @ keyboard warriors who spend their time and energy critiquing a martial artist's build, rather than having respect for other martial artists as a TRUE martial artist would. Jackasses.
While it is true that being in good shape is preferable to being obese, true martial arts do not absolutely require it. Arts such as Kenpo & Kung Fu have an internal structure that the practitioner must "find." Once said practitioner finds his structure, he can ironically become lazier with his technique (meaning he no longer has to strictly follow textbook motions for the techniques to work). While Mr. Speakman does appear to be over-weight, his Kenpo is better now than when he was young.
I really like this demo. I like the camera angles and the explanations. I learned this technique with a right roundhouse kick to the sternum at the finish, which is a good alternative if the right side thrust kick truly takes out the leg (the uke spends the rest of the technique on his knees in that case). Very nice.
@chlordane2501 Hah. Well since you are clearly trolling I decide to answer it short and sweet. I said No idea, so I suggest you move on and refrain from troll like questions. My statement about his balance was a true one..... Get over it....
this was excellent technique , however I prefer using the nacho cheese throw followed by the funky chicken, then I like to walk like an Egyptian to the fridge because chicks dig that
@iamgodan thats the real nice thing about kenpo, you dont have to be in as good a shape as say, tae kwan do, to be completely lethal. its all in the technique.
