  • seems to me that that the bones of this song is about a man having the love of a good women that he nether deserved nor appreciated, hence the reason he was gone by the time chaos followed.

  • Battersea power station?

  • @ProfessionalWidow83 I believe its running from your inner fear (the boys). Those demons could have been manifested by his mistakes or wrong doing in past relationships. Its as if the girl knew about his past, and if you have ever woken up first than your lover and watched him/her sleep, a lot of things go through your mind. If you're truly in love, you'd hope that person you lay next to never leaves you, and maybe thats why she would cry, in fear. Sometimes she would forget about it ..

  • @dawgyv72 but it would still be in the back of her head, she would kiss him plenty to make sure she loved him and to keep the family together. The "boys", or his feelings, finally caught up to him without a warning he left in the middle of the night ("hours before midnight"). "Ride like you've never done" - It seems like he's done it before but this time maybe it was worse as he had a family. "They killed a woman" Him running a way destroyed her but it doesn't mention the kids since as a kid...

  • @dawgyv72 you're usually not aware of what happens when parents separate so it didn't "kill" them as much as it did her. That's my angle on it.

  • @dawgyv72 The way I came up with that conclusion evolved from asking myself a couple of questions "If the story was to be literal, how did he know to run away if the people after him came unannounced?"

Since she forgot about his crimes, this had to have meant that it happened a long time ago. Authorities wouldn't burst into a house shooting and killing everything after such a long case.

  • @dawgyv72 "People ride horses, not ponies, right?" - That made me think of an American car (since Tennessee is part of the song), the Ford Pony which was inspired by the Mustang.

  • @dawgyv72 I also didn't understand what "licking his wounds" meant and I discovered that its a french idiom for "avoiding someone intentionally that you may encounter along the way." And the first time I heard the song, when Ray sings "tropical signs" I instantly thought highway signs for some reason but I can't back that up.

  • @ProfessionalWidow83 Nope, just mentioning. You can tell its in his intention because of the way he even pronounces the name. Amazing song, the story behind it breaks me apart

  • I highly doubt its coincidental that "lejos" in spanish means Far.

  • thanks for posting this video
