What's stopping them? The prospect of their family going broke and them being homeless, that's what's stopping them. Interest rates are as good as up (again), housing affordability is at record lows, food and petrol are skyrocketing. So many people would be forced into being 2 income families.

If the chance of Rudd resigning was significantly real, there would be long and loud media speculation about it. Actually you are not quite correct on that. Did you know that a person is termed employed if they work one hour a week. What use is that in paying the bills? Also Australia has about the 3rd highest casualised work force in the world (OECD). That is NOTHING to be proud of in terms of employment. Not only that 75% want more work (hours). That is why so many normal, average Aussies are working 2-3 casual jobs just to keep up with unchecked sky rocketing inflation (announced today).

There was a time when John Howard didn't know his stuff either...as it so happens, I can deduce we weren't in existence to see his earliest days. Alistra not everyone wants a lot of hours, at the end of the day fairness in the workplace starts with a chance of a job and if anyone wants more hours whats stopping them? you forget 1 million families were out of work under hawke/keating years, unions are only 15% of the private sector so there role is really small these days so forget that:)

What's stopping them? The prospect of their family going broke and them being homeless, that's what's stopping them. Interest rates are as good as up (again), housing affordability is at record lows, food and petrol are skyrocketing. So many people would be forced into being 2 income families.

If the chance of Rudd resigning was significantly real, there would be long and loud media speculation about it. The media loves weaknesses in Kevin Rudd (and John Howard for that matter) and that would definitely be one of them. I think a small question mark over Rudd's future is better than a gigantic exclamation mark over Howard's.

Well I agree no one is perfect and I am not an idealist. I just think the wealth can be distrubuted more and inflation should have been under more of a check by Howard and Costello. As for State Labor well we have them to thank for our very lacking intercity rail service everyday.
I see people all around me that are having it tougher . I am not a pessimist, I am not an idealist but I do believe in a fair go for all Aussies.

You might be a 'political L-plater' but even you should know that it isn't the government - or their workings - that controls interest rates. They might have some ebb and flow but to blame interest rate hikes on a state government that is the opposition is simply unjustifiable. Kills me? Nah mate, looks like a Lazarus to me... :)

Apparently, Swan is not the guarentied treasurer if Labor wins, according to Rudd, who said ontop of this when he was questioned about it, that even HIS position as leader was not guarentied. WHAT? That would mean a question mark on who would be PM if Labor won. But hasn't Labor been trying to use the uncertainty of Howards stay as PM as a negative. What a bunch of hypocrites the ALP is.

It was on the ninemsn website a couple of weeks ago, in Adelaide I think he was campaigning. Rudd didn't really mean that his job as leader was not definite, he was just side stepping the issue cause in truth, Swan may not be treasurer, it maybe Gillard.

I think that Gillard has balls (no pun intended; don't take it literally). If you accuse Rudd of me-too-ism, it's as if he's taken lessons of Costello. One thing I can't stand in an opposition government is when they oppose absolutely everything the government proposes, a la John Brogden. From my mind, Gillard is a bit more refined than Peter Costello, who bumbles a bit - but that's just me.

This is conveniently taken out of context. Howard didn't promise that interest rates would not rise - at all! That would be plain stupid. He promised rates would remain low, and historically they are still low, even with 4 hikes in the past term.

Leaders must have policies, huh? How many policies did John Howard steal from other politicians, such as Pauline Hanson? It is only now that the Federal government intervenes on Aboriginal Australia. Hanson mentioned this in the 90s. Rudd promised a standard broadband system; the government copied that. Rudd promised to crack down and indeed abolish work choices; only now do I hear about this ombudsman-thingamujig.

Actually you are not quite correct on that. Did you know that a person is termed employed if they work one hour a week. What use is that in paying the bills? Also Australia has about the 3rd highest casualised work force in the world (OECD). That is NOTHING to be proud of in terms of employment. Not only that 75% want more work (hours). That is why so many normal, average Aussies are working 2-3 casual jobs just to keep up with unchecked sky rocketing inflation (announced today).

There has been extended growth because the world economy has been growing, not because the Liberals are in government. There was a time when John Howard didn't know his stuff either...as it so happens, I can deduce we weren't in existence to see his earliest days. Anyone can have their opinions on Rudd, Gillard and Swan but I would like to at least give them a chance...see their ideas, because they do seem to be good. Remember Julia Gillard has had a long run in prominent politics, though she does not have the stature or leadership skills that Rudd has, hence the setup.
