0:37 There is a advantage to being surrounded by the enemy? What the hell? Bullshit propaganda. Not that I am hating on Airborne soldiers but Operation Market Garden was considered a failure. Paratroopers face the most danger out of any infantry unit. Paratroopers do not have the same numbers to complete objectives. In truth, paratroopers need to have better ambush, hit and run, & terrain navigation tactics than other infantry units to survive.
i think what he means is that they're already used to being surrounded so being surrounded at bastogne was nothing new or frightening, just another day in the office
Its a shame that marines get all the fame during the japan campaign remember 17 airborne division did recon guadalcanal making sure marines can even go there.
Go Airborne! Kicking butt since 1942. From the WW2 jumps in Africa to Iraq and Afghanistan, the US paratroopers have been serving America well along with all others men who've served.
@fleanx05 i have watched many times.. memories most of their lines.. like "That LT doesn't even have a weapon".. and "I don't know why I'm doing this.. Doing what? Hiding it in your footlocker. I'm a captain for Christ Sake"
so...the browning was almost better then the MG42 but defently better then the MG34.so when the germans come acrose one...well pretend i was a german and i`ll make random lettors then die, nhfvgsjb fhdgfjsgfjdhnc fjghsnjb UHH!???! so theyd preety much say UH OH! then all of them would go... UH GOT TO FALL!!! when they die
i hate how instead of focusing on the airborne solely...the show knocks the subject to some gun they used...i mean if i really wanted to know how the guns are...i would watch a video on that...i want to know more about airborne
@Kolashov alot lol the saw is a 5.56mm roughly a half inch long and about as big around as the flat part on a regular sized nail the bullet on the 50 is about an inch an a half long id say. about as big around as a penny. just kinda guestimating if anyone has a better description help him out
@Kolashov good question. The .50 round is a half inch in diameter and ranges(according to purpose) from 1-1.5 in. long. The 5.56 that the SAW fires is .203 inches in diameter (approx. 2/10 in.) and about 3/8 in. in length. Velocity wise, the 5.56 is around 3600 feet per second at the muzzle, while the fifty is at 2550 or so. The .50 is far more stable though, so even though it is slower to start with it maintains its velocity longer giving it about 4-5 times the range of the 5.56. Hope it helps!
You know, seeing how large these guns are, its retarded how some games just allow you to carry them around like a small automatic rifle... Perfect example is COD5, you can carry all of the famous MG's around like they weigh 4 Pounds. And no, im not a whiny call of duty player...
look who is talking.....you are stupid enough to say that 50. CAL weapons are gay but i understand why you said that (dont worry...someone will adopt you someday)
@Hfajardo97 The thing about heavy machine guns, is that they are usually the first to die, in any combat. As soon as it starts firing, everyone know where it is, so the enemy immediately does whatever it can to stop it. Sure, in the battle of the Bulge, when it stats shooting, it'll knockout a German halftrack, but what follows, is a Panzer's 4's main gun shooting at it.
of all the weaponology episodes they could have picked, why on earth did they talk about the 50 an episode about the airborne!? makes no sense at all... you can't exactly jump out of an airplane with one strapped to your leg.
@perryguy23 during the battle of the bulge they(101st) stopped an entire tank division with just 1 that was on a light tank that was para dropped into the battle with them...
The Mg 42 is techinically still in use to this day. The modern day version is the MG3. The gun is essentially the same except it is chambered in the 7.62 x51 mm NATO round.
I don't think you can really compare the .50 cal to the MG42 since they are two completely different types of machine guns designed to do different things.
The MG42 is like an all-round gun and the .50 is originally for shooting big holes in tanks.
For instance, the MG42 was used as a section support-weapon. I don't think that anyone would use the .50 that way unless you're the terminator! And if you look at the ammo, you will soon see that it is like comparing a peanut to a bowling ball. :P
Yes, they aren't the same ^_^ I was just stating that the MG42 was still in use. Yes, a M2 .50 cal is a weapon used for a different purpose than the MG42. They both have their merits.
I wasn't trying to flame.. Just pointing it out that you can't really compare two different types of weapons. If someone would compare say, the FN MAG 58 and the MG42 then fine. But the Browning .50 is way too different in my oppinion. :)
The MG42 is not an antique, also nowadays the standard machine gun of the German military, the MG3 is a modified MG42 firing the standard 7.62 x 51 mm NATO ammunition instead of the 7.92 x 57 mm Mauser bullets.
It is still in service. It's name is now MG 3. It does have another caliber (NATO) and some other slight modifies. On the outside it still looks exactly like the MG 42.
MG42 did a great job at anti personnel and scored high in fear factor
but Browning 50cal. can be used to knock out light vehicles and provides long range supressing fire for ground unites;
MG42 is a precise, delicate weapon even its successor, MG3 didn't made much changes on its design and it is still an effective killing machine
The M2 is reliable, easier to maintain and manufacture, therefore the M2 has a long service length in military history .Both weapons have their advantages.
We can take out tank with our Delta vehical or javelin team. .50 use to take on armor but now enemy main battle tank armor is too thick and suffiticate so AT weapon have to be use.

anttonoo 2 years ago
The German MG42 is much superior than 50. Browning.
In fact, almost all weapons expert would agree that the German MG42 was the best automatic machine gun in WWII.
Americans always make their own inventions sound and seem much better than it really is.
devilhunterred 2 years ago

Because weapons evolve.
