to be honest there's a romance to portslade that you probably can only see if you were brought up here and have happy childhood memories of the place, there's certainly something about portslade.
I can truthfully say Portslade is a nice place to live. The video is primarily based on Boundary Rd, which is a bit of a dump. But how can it possible compete with Brighton's Western Rd when it is only 5 mins down the road?
As for shopping in Boundary Rd, Tiba (Asian cuisine) is the best takeaway in Sussex, the Tesco is small but usefull, Aldi is cheap as chips, and there are a few good trade style shops.
North Portslade (Mile Oak) is a very nice place indeed. The farm shop is brilliant!
i have lived in this area my whole life and i am 16.
i know the kind of people who youve based your oppinion on but portslade is not full of those people. there are a select few of teenagers like that. but otherwise most are happy, non-alcoholics that have fun so... yeah.
and all those saying its not awesome are liers... its the best place to grow up.
Fuck off... I bet you're some little short lairy Chav from Bristol or something. So you can have a go... yet you're obviously not dead either. So leave us alone, I'm proud that I'm from Portslade...
... By your comments, I think my point is quite proven ... As a matter of fact I am quite tall and 'lived' (a relative term) in Porta Slada for thirty years. Now let me guess about you ... 16 hmm...? No doubt you are fat, have two children (no partner), are unemployed and living off the State. Best regards ...
Yeah... Im 16 and living of the state. FFS... Do you really think I would do that if I had just left school? Actually I'm 15, in my last year of school, Doing very well, Off to take A levels, then Medical School. And you? Fat? Hell yeah, OI'm the fattest kid on the block. Despite the fact that Im fit and healthy, and was planing to serve my country until I found out that Diabetics can't.
... by adding 'because ...' makes it so - however "possibly'"may have been gramatically better.
Really; nice having a bit of banter with you; enjoy Portslade (I did when I lived there - very much so as a matter of fact - my local was the Stag) and I don't want to pi*s you off too much. Sincerely, good for you for having a (bloody good) dig at me - well done & best regards - Mal.
Yeah, must agree there mate. Was good fun xD I just got a little pissed off when everyone seems to take this song so seriously and have a go at Portslade. Dont't worry... I just got pretty pissed off when people had a go at me, and 93BabyBear, who is actually my girlfriend. Anyway, nice speaking to you :)
... I worked the (defensive) relationship out, hence the wind up. Terry Garoghans CD is really quite good - unless you live in Whitehawk or Moulsecombe - try & get a copy of 'Brighton The Musical' 26 tracks of the same. I now "live" in Worthing (not Bristol!) ... yer, you're right - same thing!
Well for everyone who is slating Portslade, I have lived there for a very long time and think it is great. Everywhere has it's problem areas, including Hove and Brighton.
I'm assuming the video was meant as a joke but as a final thought, most people that live here are very happy and don't really give a shit about what anyone else thinks.
Great work, hated the place when we moved from London but our first night we went to the Victoria. A dewey eyed old codger proudly told us he was going to sing Karoake with his grand daughter. Yes, they were crap, but it made me love the place & pub after that. Decent folks giving it a go.
Really good. Home for the first 5 years of my life was just off Foredown drive, and I can remember the level crossing. However I escaped. Mum worked for the National Provincial in Worthing, Dad worked for CVA (Kearney and Trecker) in the late 60's, and I went to St Nicholas Infants.
At last - appreciation and celebration! Suppose everybody's going to flock here now it's charm has been revealed to the world and spoil the place (Tst!)
it's ace! Portslade born and bred and had to get away for uni, but still kinda miss it in a way lol - it's not the most glamorous of places, but it'll always be home! :)
Just when you think there really are some decent huns in the world, people like this disease portsladelion rear their incredibly ugly heads. Can only hope that what goes around REALLY does come around for you, portsladelion!
Hey, Sorry to say Whistlestop is my local for over 20yrs!! Sad mother you don't have to tell me.-lol-
Love the video and the wording. Surely it's not the worst place on the planet!!! Lets think about it , thinking, thinking, thinkingggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
I love this, I've lived in Portslade for 12 years and shop there virtually every day, my mum worked in Tescos for years! New Church Road, what a boring road that is! Great!!!!
Cheers for your comments. I was brought up in "Slade", so got a lot of fond memories of it! Whistlestop used to me local, well, then it was called The Railway!
7 minutes away tesco"s and that portslade railway crossing is down in the video for a change... NOT pub guide victoria 4 out of ten stanley 7 out of ten battle of trafalger 2 out of ten blue anchor 5 out of ten halfway house closed THANK GOD the railway(whistle stop) 2 out of ten the gardners 8 out of ten..well done dave the harbour view ..the one dave and fran had on the seafront was 10 out of ten when they had it but now its poor!
Grew up in Portslade on the Old Shoreham Rd at Southern Cross 40 years ago. Video brought back many memories of the shopping centre and the level crossing,it was a manual operation then. Thanks for the great song.
Having emigrated to New Zealand from Portslade 2 years ago, I soooo miss the old place. The stunning scenery, the welcoming locals, the complete absence of sheep, how life is different to NZ. Thanks for uploading, and if you're ever in Gardener Street, BN41 or the equally magnificent sights of Newhaven West Quay please please please upload a vid from there (or Shoreham Tesco!) God how I miss Tesco's....
I remember many a Boxing Day, driving down Brunswick Place, along New Church Road, up Boundry Road and along to Hallyburton Road ( left by the level crossing) to see my uncle and aunt; how I miss brighton (and Portslade!!!)
That's fantastic, you deserve a knighthood or whatever the Portslade version would be - something from Poundsaver followed by a half in the Blue Anchor maybe.
to be honest there's a romance to portslade that you probably can only see if you were brought up here and have happy childhood memories of the place, there's certainly something about portslade.
