I really like the kill switch sound but I'm not sure about doing this because my guitar is really expensive and I don't want to risk making a mistake. So if I took my guitar to a guitar shop, would they do me up with one?
can someone tell me something.. i bought a guitar has a coil splitter for passive pickups but i put blackouts sd which are active so it doesnt work now as a coil spliter so can i change the coil splitter into a killswitch
This isn't short circuiting, this is creating an open circuit when the switch is pressed since there is then infinite resistance between the switch nodes. Their method may have caused buzz when the switch was pressed, what you should do is get a 3 node selection switch and dump the depressed selection to ground.
@jma111000 It's not really shorting the guitar. What you're doing with the killswitch is dumping the signal to ground. It's not bad for the guitar or anything...
Soldering and drilling isn't dangerous as long as you know what you're doing. Hahaha, I'm only 16 and I've rewired my guitar twice (of course with my dad telling me what to do).
@slashman5 the hard back-and-forth of that is hard on the switch, is difficult to do with a fast, steady rhythm, and is prone to make undesirable popping sounds. I think everyone tries it that way at first.
Cool dad! That's what dads should do is involve their kids and do stuff unlike mine who just did "his thing" Now get that kid ROCKIN and he'll get really good so everyone will want him in their band for lead guitarist and all the girls will be after him and he'll be famous and have his own tour bus........................ we all dream of that right?
there's a toggle switch and its for the PUs to switch between the bridge and the neck PU or turn on both WHY do you install a "killswitch" when there was already one?
the 4 controllers looks like: 1 for vol. neck PU, 1 vol. bridge PU, the other 2 for the tone, the toggle switch is for switching between the pick ups or turn on both PUs...
so when there are 2 vol. controller turn 1 of this off, then play a note and switch between the on an the off PU and what happens "Killswitch Morello Style"
Basically the father does all the work while the kid just watches. I'll bet he didn't learn anything. Just from my experience that usually is not very educational. *shrug*
alright just giving my view on the video but you guys are so fucking stupid. How about you learn how to do guitar repair and shit like that first. Never drill when pots and wires are still in the way, you could have drilled right through a wire by drilling through the front......
@DrunkHound1 "little boy"? okay guy, too bad im 18. and i know what im doing with guitars. i deal with them daily so shut up. I was just giving my opinion....
Cool kill switch project. I'm thinking about installing one in one of my old guitars. One question though, wouldn't it be better to use a switch that breaks the circuit, instead of shorting it out?
unfortunately if you were to use this particular killswitch with a valve amp you could probably damage it. think of plugging your lead in and out repeatedly with the amp on. not pretty.
You can do the same thing with the guitar, Turn the volume all the way down on one pickup and all the way up on the other then use the pickup selector for a kill switch.
never go straight to the right size drill bit. start really small and work your way up the to right sixe hole. it could chip the paint if you go straight to it.
awesome video, I added a toggleswitch instead of the one you used, but I think I'll change it with a temporary toggleswitch, it would help a lot with the control of the playing
You know for a long time me & my dad never really had much in common, when i was a young tennager we would just talk typical "hi, how are you doing?" stuff. never really had much of anything in common.
I picked up a guitar, and me & my dad talked about guitars and the beatles. I never felt any closer to him ever...it was a gret feeling , a small glimpse of what "having a father" felt like. My dad moved to texas but i'm glad we had that moment. Hope you guys had fun.
personally i think a mimi toggle switch would work instead of a button so theres less chance of doing it by accident and looks nicer to me but awesoem video and really helpful
im planning on experimenting on my old guitar.. wana add a killswitch like this and repaint it with funny stuff xD should i use spray paints on top of the paint it has? or do i have to scrape of and then use some special paint and product to protect? i never did this before..
nice killswitch BTW u could have turned 1 volume down and 1 up and used the rythm/lead to turn one pickup on and one off to make a k.s. but that works to! :)
if i'm putting a switch in the lead instead of in the wires in the guitar, can I still reverse it so wen it's down it's off and wens it released it's on? thanks
@AhKillYu no, but my pickups were damaged as well. i replaced the pots and the 5way switch but it's still very badly damaged. buying a new guitar would be more cost efficient than replacing all the wiring
@kvant69 you are a discusting but head go away if you are gonna post like that. get a life. you are stupid. they are trying to tell you something cool. GO GET A LIFE if that is all you think about. ass
cuswco97, that was the pickup switch my friend. good job guys, buy your amp does have a tremolo feature... and thatcoolG is right, a pedal is easier and safer for your guitar
you can also put down the volume of the other mic and use the mic selector as a killswitch. that works in les pauls and other guitars with two volume knobs.
you dident need to add a kill switch, see hows theres 4 nobs on the guitar 2s for volume and 2 for tone, turn one volume all the way down and leave the other all the way up then use the toggle switch to make the sound

@Westcliff09 Because the pickup selector switch trick will destroy the selector switch and you can't do the effect as fast.

@Crazymofoinamajikbox
1. a toggle switch isn't expensive (here in Germany kost a Toggle switch 3 Way: 1,40€) and it needs long to destroy one trust me
2. quickness isn't all without a feeling for the rythm ;)
and to exchange a toggleswitch is done in 10minutes...
