  • nice to see this style painted as one watery layer, I am a fan of the hairdryer myself in creating different dry layers on which to build but this has opened up new ideas, great to see it live like this - thanks!

  • this is great, like a Turner watercolour. Thanks.

  • Nice job, I especially aprreciate the music background..

  • @chadSmith1452, art is never going to be same , if people didn't find their own way of painting then all art would be excatly same, learning from an artist is learning the basics oof art, when you go of to paint on your own the whole point is to develop your own stile that you like.

  • I loved this video. Love your style and the result. This inspires me to paint. I love it that this image comes from the interaction between the image inside of you and the act of applying the materials to the paper. Wonderful...

  • Turner would like this!

  • WE LIVE AND LEARN WHATS THE FUCKING POINT

  • WE LIVE AND LEARN

  • I love it!!! It is beautiful!

and Its an unusual tech for painting watercolor!

  • I think you are terrific.

  • Your colors are so wonderful! I tried to copy yours but I used the small brush (I didn't have the big one) and it did not give the same effect.

  • Very innovative use of dark and light. I will visit your website. Thanks for this posting: 5 Stars!

  • can someone pls tell me the name of this song?

    amazing artwork :)

  • It's a Beethoven piano sonata. It (I think) is the Waldstien. Fantastic music - amazing sky!!

  • You do for watercolor, what Bill Alexander did for Oil. Now I get it. Now I feel I can do it.

  • Beautiful loose style, nice dry brush effects.

  • when you first started painting i thought thtat you were getting a sample of colors that you wanted, biy was i wrong, lol it was really unexpected plesant suprise

  • 6:49 your painting came.

It couldn´t resist the awesomness :O

  • there's always some dumbass asking "what's the name of the song" on Youtube.

So now, that would be me.

  • beautiful, reminds me of Turner paintings, great light. Ha! you've inspired me to get my brushes out, thanks!

  • Marvelous. Has oil like brightness and life.

  • it's ok

  • that's really good, and u have wrinkle free hands, how old are you?

  • not very young...nearly 30 thought

  • deep beautiful colours nice work !!!

  • At first i was attentive , then laughing out loud , and in the end i love it. Bravo

  • belloooooooo

  • Very nice!!

  • I love your brush... what brand is it?

  • nice work it s remind me of Joseph Mallord William Turner

  • Beautiful, you are such an artist.

  • Were you looking at a photograph or anything? Pretty good! And I can't believe it's water color! Such bold colors and no layering washes! x)

  • yeah, looking at a photograph.

  • Yeah its really good and nicely done but if you mention what colours your using that'd be deadly. Very nicely done though

  • that's gouache colors

  • watercolor ^^

  • lol, it's Sennelier Watercolor, a French brand.

Don't judge the medium by the way I apply it at the beginning~

  • That's incredible :)

  • i like d colors~~~~

    about 4mins n half so~~ i wanted to laugh bout d draping~~ XD

It is water dat u use to erase?? or something else

sometimes before u start paint, u brush the paper wit.... ??

i was wondering if its oil~~ XDDD i gotta test it orz

  • yes it's the water i use to "erase"..

    it's called lifting.

  • @floatingpaint beautiful !!!! outstanding!!!

  • @floatingpaint is it different from wash??

  • I like very much of your bold use of colour and confident painting. Very expressive and different of that somewhat postcard look of many landscape watercolours we see everyday. Congratulations!

  • You see, it makes no sense to mix all these colours. Please don't take it too serious as

you were compared with Turner.I think painting

has nothing in common with effectproducing.

Try to do like Turner, work plein-air!

  • so painting has nothing to do with effect producing, but has everything to do with act imitating? ;)

  • @floatingpaint Don't listen to him. This is very well done.

  • @ChadSmith1452

artists are always egoistic...they could pretend listening to instructions from a teacher..but they always find their own way to paint their own painting when they are on their own

  • @floatingpaint

Believe me, I know. My own ego is enormous. I'm quite confident that I'll be widely regarded, before I'm forty, as the greatest artist since the renaissance (told you).

Now, much more mundanely, may I ask what kind of paper you're using?

  • @floatingpaint

it's nothing to do with ego. It's just that artists can do something you can't. Usually better than most! :)

    MC

  • @2gui2fox

I was just going to compare him/her to Turner myself (in fact I already did on another video). The comparison is an apt one, and very high praise, as Turner is one of the great masters of all time.

I *don't* think this person needs your advice.

  • It would be good to see when you dry your brush and when you add water too. :-) Thanks for your help!

  • I got a bit sea sick watching this video but it was worth it.reminded me of J M W Turner

  • good work...i like the ease with which u created that effect...

  • no offense, but, I feel like I was prefering the state of the painting like it was around half of the video. I guess that it's a video effect. In real I should prefer the final work :) It was instructive.

  • hi. what brand of watercolor and brush are you using? thank you

  • That was magical. Thank you!!

  • Great painting.. Please invest in a $9.00 tripod for your camera..

  • this is Amaazing !!

    Your are gifted person ..

  • this is Amaazing !!

    Your are gifted person ..

  • really good.thanx

  • i wish i could paint like that... yeah, this is really inspiring. thanks joseph!

  • An absolute inspiration, I love it Joseph!

  • interesting skdudny~~

    one question though~~

have you see clouds with pure white and hard edges?

    :D

  • i'm sorry but what are you talking about, i want to learn.

  • to make clouds, try rubber cement ( its like glue). before you paint, apply some on the area you want to be white/ light coloured and after the painting is finished, rub it off with your fingers.. then it'd be pure white..

  • thats kinda like cheaing lol

  • it's not cheating

it's actually a technique used by a lot of people~~

personally I don't really like it...

  • yah neither do i because it makes it look just white as apposed to real clouds that have different shading and colors

  • Lovely work and you make it so effortlessly!

  • some people are just born to be brilliant//////

  • lovely work

  • sorry, but it is scheisse

  • But I bet it sells... Painting purely for love is dead. Paint for love and money!

    :)

  • Thank you! Now I know how to mix my colors. Unfortunatelly I haven`t got a black and I tried to make my painting with brown and dark blue... it`s not the same, but help.

  • buy black then

  • next time with sure I`ll surch for black

  • It's a good piece of art! I like the free style of painting skills of the artist, it seems like he just paint the moment of feeling, which is similar to Chinese paiting style.

But may I give some suggestion on the filming: It's kinda shaky, the camara's moving all the time, I got dizzy after watching it; also the focus was not done well , when the artist painted the right corner, it's out of camara...

anyway, I still love it! thank you!

  • I believe it's because the "artist" is holding the camera...he/she needs to ask a good friend to hold the camera or perhaps find a way to position it on some pillows or boxes or something...good luck ! love it love it love it....i tried watercolour 2 years ago and it is NOT easy.

  • I was waiting for the clouds, and then right at 7:50 it skips right over that part, hope you can do another one showing how to do the white parts of the clouds?

  • just lets it dry

  • You can do the clouds with wet brush. The other way is to take one pure paper and when the colors are still wet to soak in

  • Take a clean paper towel, dip in cold water and rub in a circular motion off the area where you want the clouds to appear.

  • Ahhh..... thankyou so much ! IT's always the "little" details that make the difference. Thanks very much, i will try that.

  • Tissue does work, but you have to hit it at exactly the right time, or it leaves hard-edged and creased looking clouds.

  • when you put that black bit on the paper(6.40)

i almost freakeed out.. its like.. WTF IS HE DOING HES GONNA WRECK IT. but dude you did an amazing job, it turned out perfectt

  • That's incredible:), what inspired the colours? Everything just seems to flow and work together, the colour combination just balances and harmonizes the whole piece.

  • I am going to subscribe!!! amazing!!!

  • Great painting! It looks like you start with dry paper. Is that right?

  • o gawd man ur so good

  • You make it look so easy... I make it look like mud! I know the video was 10 minutes, but how long did it take you to complete the painting, including drying times?

  • I can't remember

    but less than one hour...

  • I can't believe how you pushed those colors all over the place and didn't make a mess! Wow!

  • BRAVO!

  • Could you please list the colors you used exactly? Thanks!

  • I used

    cadmium Yellow(opaque)

Tyrian Rose + cadmium yellow for the orange

    alizarin crimson

    Permanent Magenta

    lemon yellow for some highlight

    yellow ochre

    Indigo Blue

However..most of the color you saw are mixture

the above colors are just the colors I used to begin with

  • Amazing!! I love painting but, sadly I'm not very good at scenery. I'm better at doing people but, your incredible.

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • and where did you buy those paints?

    art store or where?

  • I use Sennelier Extra Fine watercolor

It's not as expensive as winsor & newton for it's a less known brand, but the quality is top notch because.

and btw the paper is 300 lb Arches paper.

the type of paper makes a lot of difference, I am sure you know that if yo paint watercolor for a while.

with a nice paper and paint you will get a nice flowing feathering effect, with a bad paint and paper, your watercolor will appeal to be like acrylic.

  • can you tell me what kind of paint you used?

  • practice it coz it really would be helpful... I like the way u paint

  • my English is bad, narration would make it worse....

  • If you narrate your work as you go, you'll sell more. What color and types of paints are you using? Are the yellows non-staining? - mike c

  • I use Sennelier extra fine watercolor

  • I mean what colors exactly? ... for example: transparent, non staining cad red etc. - tnx mike

  • Do you intend these videos to be tutorials? If so - you might be giving some instructions and insights while you paint. If you are a good English speaker that is :)
