@phebus74. Io non credo k è stato imposto ma solo è stata una scelta altrimenti non si spiegherebbe la scrittura della sig,ra Basso come un ruolo maschile. Io torno a dirlo, Villazon è stato scelto scelto come tutti gli altri e stilisticamente è adatto alla parte. Sicuramente non ci sarebbe stato bene un Daniels o un D'Arcangelo....ha l'intonazione giusta!

Primo, Villazon è un maestro nel bel canto e le consiglio d ascoltare la sua magistrale interpretazione (sempre da Ercole sul Termodonte) dell aria NON FIA DELLA VITTORIA; secondo, se il Maestro Biondi lo ha scelto indubbiamente lo ha scelto per le sue doti canore e poi perchè è perfettamente adatto alla parte.

@ziocarino850 Mi permetto di dirVi che forse non siete a conoscenza di come funzioni la discografia di Star System etc.La Virgin mica dipende da Biondi!!!Magari è il contrario!E possibile che altri fra i cantanti siano stati scelti (infatti tutti sono esperti esecutori del barocco)ma Villazon (sul quale l'etichetta discografica ha investito fior di soldi)è puramente il frutto di una imposizione e niente più.Se Villazon è un Maestro nel belcanto come mai la sua coloratura(se così si può chiamare)

@ziocarino850 è più simile ad un gargarismo o ad un attacco di asma(fra l'altro tutta aspirata).Il problema è che Villazon stilisticamente (di fondo)con il barocco non c'entra assolutamente nulla e si sente.Il fatto che poi a Voi piaccia,è un altro discorso...questione di gusto,ma l'impostazione della vocalità ed il gusto del canto barocco (coloratura compresa)è l'esatto opposto di ogni songola nota che esce dalla gola di questo cantante.

I have just bought this CD for me and a good friend. I love this cast of singers and also of course Vivaldi!!! Wonderful album. GREAT.

And Villazon is magnifique in his part.

I found the same aria Rolando Villazon is singing here, sung by tenor Carlo Vincenzo Allemano here on youtube and compared the two tenors and their way of singing. I don't hear big differences - but perhaps you think Allemano too is terrible in baroque repertoire?

Villazon is very expressive, I think he is a fine choise for the role.

I don't understand why if Rolando Villazon have this obstinacy for singing baroque music why is that he can't take the time to study the style.

Singing Händel like Verdi didn't work well I don't think that singing Vivaldi like Verdi is going to work either. Besides there are plenty of tenors who have a good voice,deep knowing of this repertoire and sure can do a better job here.

@Heartlessiceboy Most record companies care about nothing but selling CDs. Look how many hits this clip has gotten. Opera lovers are not exempt from being star-struck. RV is not the only one in the cast who does not specialize in Baroque. Since Vivaldi is so hot now, every singer, I suppose, would love to be in if they were asked to join this kind of project.

@asiairish Oh I know that he is not the only one who is no specialized in baroque but he is the worst of them... And this is not his first baroque project either.

My point was that a human voice is a very versatile instrument that you can use to sing very different styles. But you do need to learn how to do it first.  Villazon can't sing baroque not because his voice is unsuitable for baroque it's because he dosn't want to study and learn the style.

And Honestly I don't think that there's a good excuse for that. We all know many singers who sing verismo and baroque and lied and many other styles and they do it good because they took the time to study every style. Now Villazon is an international star. He can afford to finest vocal coaches,teachers and all the material needed.

Vivica Genaux is sensational in this. That aria, "Scendero, volero, gridero" that we see her record at the end of the video at 2.37 is electrifying. I find her best work is always with Europa Galante. Biondi brings out the best of her virtuosity and her intensity. They are great artists. Europa Galante rules!
