  • Yes, I think Stana Katic would give Bacall a run for the money

  • Most amazing thing is that she is still alive!

Why don´t you ... shave -slap- then we try it again )

Wish some lady did that to me :)

  • i cant think of any actress more sensual and charming and mysterious

  • That is how he met her was through doing this movie!

  • I love classic scenes like this; you can feel the sexual tension, but surprise surprise, no one got naked, no one's sucking someone's face off and no one's jumping around on the bed like a wild animal. Now that's acting.

  • i saw this on looney lunes

  • She is such a babe!!!! This was during a time when an actresses face was in fact thier own.

  • @baconpoptarts SOOOOh TRUE....We don't really know what stars look like behind their botox....It's just like their acting.....fake...They just don't have the style of yesterday...I know know why I can't get into actors of today...I compare them to real acting of the past...Thanks to YT..I can have them again

  • she is famous for her husky voice!

  • I never would have guessed Humphrey Bogart had such a deep voice.

  • Humphrey was SO young...

  • Thanks for sharing all this here. I saw the movie a week ago, & I can't stop thinking about it. They sure don't make'em like that anymore.

  • I could use all these lines, but they only work in the internet for me. Just try saying things like that without a Bacall look - it freezes you and melts you at the same time. The only things I can melt are opportunities - except with married guys, of course. These are like desperate shoe sellers - you're always gorgeous as long as you're not their wife.

    See? I can do it!

  • Lauren Bacall was unique, easily the sexiest woman ever to be seen in cinema. They don't make them like that any more

  • She was the coolest actress. Only lady who could match Bogarts swagger. And I love her voice. Her and Kathleen Turner had the best voices ever.

  • Bogie a stinker?

  • The most beautiful American actress of all time!

  • Lauren has a rusty voice like Demi Moore=)

  • @SamLuvsJamesDean more like Kathleen Turner or Emma Stone. Demi Moore just sounds hoarse all the time.

  • YOU JUST PUT YOUR LIPS TOGETHER AND BLOW. I love bogies nervous laugh at times in his movies. If you watch his movies enough you will notice this laugh, usually around the mention of drinking. bogie loved to drink. I watched so many of his movies so many of times I have alot of the movie lines memorized.

  • the best is her last line...

"Are you still feeling happy Slim?"

    "What do you think?"

    (bum shake)

  • Classic Femme Fatale! Love it!

  • The reason they call each other Steve and Slim in this movie is because these were the pet names the director of this movie and his wife called each other in real life. They discovered Lauren Bacall and using the pet names was a nod to them in the movie.

  • what! haha i love "i'm hard to get, steve. all you have to do is ask me."

  • She should have won the oscar for this!

  • Great lines - Of course, that's also GREAT inspiration! :-)

  • damn. I don't know anyyyy 19 year olds today who have that kind of voice and sultriness. No wonder Bogie fell for her!

  • shes a real lady! xxx rip lauren

  • @scyllaandcharybdis Dude!!! Lauren isn't dead!!!! She's alive and well at the age of 86. Viva Bacall!

  • you missed the "i think i''m sitting on someones cigarette" line. thats seriously my favorite

  • Oh God! She's fantastic and so incredibly sexy. Yep .. dare I say a legend!

Thanks for submitting the clips.. a delight to watch.

  • Howard Hawks did sort of a remake of this movie with John Wayne and Angie Dickinson called Rio Bravo. Dean Martin was the Walter Brennan character, but Walter Brennan was in both movies... I guess you'll just have to watch one and then the other and enjoy!

  • omg, the slap makes me really horny.........!!

  • @LozzieLass93 then we must be awesome :P

  • i was named after lauren :O

  • @laurentherandom Me too!

    im quite proud :)

  • @laurentherandom Me too!

  • Love Bogie and Bacall! One of the best couples. ;)

  • I was forcing some of my friends to watch this with me the other week. We all came to the same conclusion, "They don't make 'em like that anymore." I think we were all talking about Bogie and Bacall and not the movie.

  • Modern Girl: "The other times, you're just a stinker"

    Modern Guy: "Huh"??????

    LOL...emphasis on "use them wisely"!

    (Thanks for posting)

  • 2:08 I love watching Bacall slap Bogie. It hilarious but cute at the same time. Bogie and Bacall were an amazing couple, some of Hollywood's finest.

  • 1:37 Very witty :)

  • Great scenes. I sent this to an actress friend of mine in Germany. She has a bit of Lauren in her.

    Thanks for the post.

  • Lauren Bacall (who is only 19 here!) was indeed extremely sexy in this film. No wonder Bogie (25 years her senior) fell in love with her! Who wouldn't? But why does she call Bogie's character "Steve" in this movie, but yet Walter Brennan calls him "Harry"? Inquiring minds want to know! In any case, THANKS for posting these delightful clips for us to enjoy! :)

  • @JubalCalif She calls him Steve because he called her Slim. Thanks for the comment.

  • Steve being the obvious retort when called 'Slim'. Had he called her fatty the mind boggles!

  • @rlneesam Simple, had he called her "fatty" she would have called him "franky"...

  • @rameyerguam This is Howard Hawks, the Director who did that....Howard "Harry", who at the time, was married to Slim Hawks, the woman who first noticed Bacall on Mag. Cover. Hawks had a 'thing' for Bacall. Their characters names were "Steve" & "Marie". Hawks was living through the two of them, thus the changes.

This is also why Bogie & Bacall named their son, "Stephen" and not "Harry". It was after the character in 'To Have and Have Not', and not Hawks fantasy! Cheers.

  • Bogart's character WAS named Harry. Steve was short for stevedore. Bacall's character would have been an upper class New York girl,(who had fallen somewhat from grace) - and she would see Harry as a "roughneck from the waterfront" - in short, a stevedore.

  • Steve is short for Stephen on who's feast King Wenceslas looked out. Bacall's character would have realised that Harry was a descendant from Henry VIII. She, being catholic would have been rightly outraged. Feigning love for him, she enticed him to an apiary where he was stung to death clutching a rosebud to his heart murmuring 'grauniad-----'.

  • Okay, .....get up slowly and step away from the bong pipe......

BTW, Bogey & Bacall were Jewish in real life.

  • When Bogie and Bacall's characters first meet they give each other nicknames. He calls her Slim and she calls in Steve in reply to him calling her Slim. Then throughout the rest of the movie they call each other by theses nicknames

  • aww thats cute :) thanks for sharing!

  • @JubalCalif shes only nineteen in this? she looks so much more mature! thanks for the info

  • A damn good actress and sexy as hell. They were a great couple.

  • some women can capture a man with what they say and a few lines which will make them unforgettable in a man's eyes--lauren bacall was one of them

  • Fantastic

  • Beautiful and Talented, Lauren is the best!

  • Did you all know that her cousin is the president of Israel? :P

  • i love lauren bacall

    amazing actress

  • i was named after her.weird....good actress though

  • @4everpureblood why is that weird??/

  • @TTLYPerfect i just mean its weird to see the person i was named after, because i had never seen this before.thats all.

  • Probably about the most beautiful woman on earth. Bogart is the man, big style.

  • my fave is when the piano player, forgot his name, asks if she's happy and she says yes...so she wiggles away to the happy song he plays....

  • "you know how to whistle don't you steve... you just put your lips together and... blow."

i love it. she is SOOO great.

  • Now here's a lady that hits hard and still looks like a lady. Seldom nowadays. Great vid!

  • she was soooo cool! My favorite is "what are you trying to do guess her weight? lol. So great to have a woman in a film as cool, suave and badass as a man like Bogey.

  • I heard that she was 19 when she did this movie? Is this true any of you Bacall fans?

  • That is true.

  • Quite true. This was her breakthrough debut, and it caused quite a stir. To be so young, she no only talks like she is well beyond her years but by the cool way she carried herself also.

  • @turnoutjim it was made in '44; she was born in 24.

  • Saw this at the theatre just a few weeks ago... Lauren line's definitely made this film great.

  • 'what you trying to do guess her weight?' lol thats so funny and stinker was used alot back then! lol i love the big sleep x

  • god damn fuckin sexiest scene ever. lol seriously.

  • The other times you're just a stinker.

  • what is she saying after:"the other times, you.....(?)" before she kisses him?

  • She's so freakin gorgeous...

  • Thanks so much.

  • im related to lauren bacall,

so weird sometimes, knowing that so many people know who she is

  • She's one of my role models.

  • Bogie was the luckyist man on earth...I just can not imagin making love to her....oh my God...He had it all and more.....We just get it see a few fleeting seconds of her yummy powers.....She brings tears to my eyes......I am just so taken by her...there are no words....Betty just melts me...The "look" thing kills me.....You might as well run me over with a Mack truck......

  • 19? ... *melt*

  • BRILLIANT!!

  • Only Lauren can deliver these lines! Damn amazing!

  • "you just put ur lips together and blow."

    here's a whistle to lauren..

  • I love the "guess her weight" line. I cracked up when I heard it. Bacall sure knew how to deliver her lines. You don't see her kind of talent much these days.

  • Don't you think Lauren was robbed of the Oscar in 96'? It was her first ever nomination, and she lost to Juliette Binoche. Binoche was in the better movie, and gave a good preformance, but that Oscar should have been for Lauren's career not that specific preformance. I just can't believe that the Academy would pass up a chance to to give it to the great Bacall. The only reason Binoche won was because of the tireless campiagning for her movie. But, c'mon!

  • I still can't get over the fact that Bacall was nominated only once for an Oscar in her life. She was always so good.

I've never seen The English Patient, so I'm unsure of Binoche's performance. I think it should have gone to Bacall though.

  • I always love watching this movie -the lines are brilliant and quite funny. I love the one -

'What are you doing Steve? Trying to guess her weight? lol

    they are all great tho!!

  • I love this woman... She was 19 in this movie and she already looked and talked like nothing got her by surprise. Amazing lady.

  • i don't understand.. huhuhu

  • amazing. We will never have again, but need more of these kinds of actresses...sultry, smart, and actually GOOD.

  • hehe. My old name.

It is beyond me how at 19 she was so darn fabulous.

  • Mybe some day...I still haven't loss all of my hope, since history tends to repeat itself

  • not just her voice but her delivery of her lines was awesome!

  • Thanks especially for the "...guess her weight?" segment. I've always considered that bit ridiculously cool.

  • You know what?.....I think all her best lines were said in privte with out cameras and the best part of all was they were'nt lines. Only one man heard those. I think if she looked me in the eyes and told me "I love you with all my heart"......I would explode.....

  • This movie is neither the first nor the last time that Hawks would use the "all you have to do is ask me" line. Jean Arthur said it to Cary Grant in Only Angels Have Wings, and Angie Dickenson to John Wayne in Rio Bravo, among others. The answer is always the same: "I wouldn't ask anyone for anything." Of course, they all end up with the girl anyway. lol

  • I didn't know that. Thanks for the interesting bit of trivia.

  • not a thing... :)

  • Classy and Sexy - timeless - Where are these ladies today??

  • hey! lauren's still alive and kickin'! go her! :)

  • I keep it real dirty.

  • But why does she keep calling him "Steve"? His name's Harry. That's a red flag!

  • He calls her 'Slim' while here real name is Marie. It's just a nickname ;)

    ---

I love this movie, they aren't many actors with so much chemistry as Boagrt&Bacall.

  • In all the gin joints in all the world, she walked into mine.. and SHE CAN STAY THERE!!!

  • "just put your lips together and blow"

  • Bogey and Bacall ooze sex appeal WITHOUT nudity-don't see too many actors do it today!!

  • Sexiest woman that ever lived.

  • A great idea, jaw-dropping footage, and Lauren Bacall! Fabulous and thank you.

  • Hilarious with the commentary!

Bacall is my role model, LOL!

    She's the greatest!

  • She had no training as an actress but was coached by Slim Hawks the director Howard Hawks' wife. Note her film name was Marie but she was called Slim by Bogart and she called him Steve; both were nicknames of Hawks and his wife. What you see here is really Slim Hawks. Fascinating history. GREAT DIRECTION.

  • Actually she trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.

  • @IJG26 ops............go back and do a tad more research before making such quick and deliberate statements lol. Bacall actually took extensive lessons at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. This is a lady who's worked at her craft. If you're interested, check out her book "By Myself, And Then Some" :D

  • A time when men were men and women were women. The flavor is in the difference...doh!

  • hahahhaha i loooooovee dis woman ''what u trying to do guess her weight??''

  • Lauren Bacall is amazing. I want her voice.

  • Great clip!

    ALOT

  • i love this movie!!!! it's great!!!! "it's even better when you help", that's just great!!!!

  • lol, i tried what you said....but men just kept asking me why i was calling them steve... (lol just kidding, great lines and really funny video, loved it, thanks for posting!)

  • We have the same favorite.

  • molto bello ciao

  • Well, thanks for the tips! ;) Now to find a man like Bogart...

  • ah, that IS the real challenge. God, i love him. the only man in history who could amke something as gross as cigarettes look sexy.

  • Fantastic, lol! Thanks!

  • ugh. canned language. only lauren bacall could do something with lines that trite.

  • I love this film, witty vid.

  • haha, this was great!
