@mayhemtv The scene is slowly dying out because all the ones for whom cut their teeth on machines like the Amiga are moving on due to life committments. After that, all the best coders won't be around :(
Good day to all of my fellow Christians, firstly my apology for being out of topic. I came here to remind you people that the judgment day has started already. Please depart from cursing, smoking, violent entertainment, fornication, occultism, and for watching pornography etc. lest you be found not worthy to inter the kingdom of God in the Day of Execution.
The demo scene produce new graphic effects and different ways of coding and compressing files. Games and software developers will buy licensing for this software. A good example of this is the bloom effect seen in a lot of games around 2003. Yet this effect was used in the demo scene decades before hitting the commercial market.
Most of the effects used in the industry have been developed several years before by the academic community in most cases. The ones I remember having known of years before being used in movies or games are: HD rendering, cloud rendering, fluid behavior in CG, renderin of physically correct atmospheres, 3d textures, BRDFs, normal mapping, translucent material rendering etc.
Farbraush are experts in procedural texturing, modeling and compression/real time decompression algorithms.
