  • Disgusting. If Liambas wanted to hit him, he shouldnt be aiming for the upper back/head area to make contact. It was a pretty deliberate attempt to knock out Fanelli.

  • der der der keep yer heads up der der der..........

    morons

  • hhaa

  • That was uncalled for....

  • shut up his stick nailed him in the eye

  • Liambas sucks..period

  • The player tried to shoot the puck the other way, really outrageous tackle

  • the hit was clean but Michael Liambas is a hockey player with no skill who will never make the NHL or even the ECHL for god's sake, why doesn't he transition into mma like Jeff Kugel did, Liambas would still suck @ mma but he would be better at that than in hockey, he'd have to cut weight to like 185

  • dumb ass defence... he saw him coming and turned his back... at that level you should know better

  • If you notice right after Liambas staples Fanelli he wrecks one of his teammates trying to fight him.

  • @darkstar9008 Yeah, the second Rangers guy who tries to engage Liambas is #53 Jeff Skinner. He was the top pick for the Carolina Hurricanes in this year's draft.

  • Anybody who knows anything about hockey knows that that hit was OK. Fanelli didn't see it coming because his goalie was in the line of sight (of the hit coming). Fanelli didn't turn on purpose, I think he just turned at the last second, not knowing the hit was coming. Liambas just finished his check, he coasted in, so it wasn't even charging. A season / Playoff long suspension was nuts. His shoulder would've been on shoulder - not even a head shot (players head came off glass and hit arm)

  • Liambas went for the head, its easily seen on the video, really, get over it the suspension was well played

  • Welcome to the OHL, bitch!

    (The O.C. reference)

  • Who cares about this hit,its done.He would have never got hurt like that had spott not coach like a monkeys ass.

U ever noticed how Spotts players are always getting put in vulnerable situations to get hit behind the net?

dumping it down low then pinning it with back to the play? yeah there ya go.

  • Comment removed

  • he CANT see him because of the goalie? then he turn his back to him..?

  • personally i think its complete bs that he was suspended for the season.. he stopped skating and glided into th eguy. The problem was he diddnt have his head up you are taught in MITE hockey to keep your head up! he shouldnt have been suspended at all

  • nope. thats clean. gotta keep that dome piece up.

  • That was a clean hit all the way.. Liambus should not be suspended for the rest of the season on that hit.

  • Sorry for Fanelli but that hit was clean. He took a look up, saw him, and then turned away. Should have braced for the check instead of ignoring the trainwreck headed for him. The hit was with his shoulder, and hit Fanelli's shoulder. Clean as it gets. The odd part about the hit was how fast Fanelli spun in the air, and consequently into the boards. Not Liambus' fault, but he could have let up a few mph and still had an effective check. Here's hoping both players learn from the incident.

  • well its a headshot so no its not clean even if he didn't get suspended he still would have got a penalty.

  • It wasn't a headshot. Fanelli duckedand turned. He's gotta keep his head up

  • oh yea, go otters (even though we suck)

  • I play hockey, dont ref, but as far as it looks, the hit was legal. Fanelli turned on the hit, he caused it to be from behind. As well, Liambus used his shoulder only, stayed on his feet the whole time, and appeared to make contact with Fanelli's shoulder. Although it is too bad that Fanelli was injured it appearedto be a fairly legal hit. That's just my opinion.

  • That hit is not an illegal hit. Fanelli turned. He could have gotten an interferance but not a year long suspension. That is a bullsht call.

  • I think people forget the difference between a "clean" hit and a "legal" hit. Just because the oppportunity for the hit was there doesn't mean it wasn't dirty.

Fanelli should have has his head up, but he didn't. If the guy doesn't see you coming, back off.

  • LOL so you're saying if someone doesn't see you about to hit them don't hit them? You have never played hockey before.. This hit was clean, should not even be a minor penalty. Stupid defense turned and it wasn't even a hit from behind, hit to the shoulder as he was turning. The suspension was BULL SHIT

  • its not like he went for the puck, he clearly wanted to hurt him. hes not even a skilled player, those types of players shouldnt be in hockey anyways.

  • um no...if you ever played hockey in your life you would know that you take out the man, and then your teamate comes and gets the puck. that was a clean hit to an extent. he should not have been suspeneded for the season or playoffs. he SHOULD have gotten at most a game, but a major for either charging or boarding would have been a more suitable call.

  • haha that number 53 tries to hit liambus after that hit.. wasn`t so nice to fanelli.. pretty clean hit but Fanelli didn`t know that Liambus was coming

  • how can it be called an intent to injure? Are we giving penalties to the boards now? if he would have been closer to the boards he would have been fine.

  • I dont know anything about this guy who made the hit but from what i can see the only penalty here would be he kind of leaned with his elbow....but thats not enough to get him suspended....the guy turned away from him and there was nothing either of them could do....if that guy doesnt turn around and stupidly put his back towards him,,its a clean hit and Liambus is praised as a big hitter instead you people calling him shit...

  • Saying he had his head down is a cheap cop-out. This wasn't an open-ice hit. This was along the boards and completely unnecessary.

  • it was a dirty but rule number one you got to keep your head up going into the boards

  • RADICAL

  • That guys a piece of shit

  • its a load of shit he's getting suspended it was a clean hit!

  • he threw the elbow at the 16 year olds head. this guy is nothing but a dirty goon. this is how not to get drafted to the nhl, i hope he knows that.

  • liambas is a fucking piece of shit good things he's suspended for the year LOL

  • if fanelli got back up the hit wouldnt be a matter of discussion. in fact the hit didnt hurt him. he got his shit rocked when he hit the ice you fucking idiots.

  • If you look at it closely Fanelli never saw it coming. He has his head down and the goalie is in his way. A really dirty hit.

  • so because fanelli had his head down it makes it dirty. alright. by that logic a lot of hirts are dirty

  • every "big hit" video ive seen of liambas has atleast 6 or 7 dirty hits from behind. he deserves the suspension

  • welcome to the ohl buddy keep ur head up or get shit rocked like that. Do ur helmet up maybe? and he hit his shoulder which turned him into the boards. O charging omg u whiners how many frikin times have u seen people do this? Steve downie? got what like 3 games. They judge suspensions on how injured the dude is but really its the same as any other charging call and a year bs. DO YOUR HELMET UP REATRD.

  • has nothing to do with whether his helmet is done up (which it prob was) you ignorant ass. he skated atleast 20 feet just so he could wail on the kid. there was no point in him hitting the kid that hard, why would he need to take him out of the play? hes just back behind his own net making a pass. and i guarantee when they suspended him the full season they took into account that hes a repeat offender

  • Why the shit is this age restricted? Anyway, Liambus did hit Fanelli in a vulnerable place, Liambus had no chance to stop as Fanelli turned at the last second. Clearly Fanelli is not ready for the OHL if he doesn't know how to protect himself. No intent, unfortunate, clean shoulder check, why the fuck a suspension for a season??? Thats like saying this is as severe as Bertuzzi's incident, what the fuck?

  • GODfirst, you're an idiot, are we watching the same hit? Did you see how far he skated to hit him. That was a dirty hit by a dirty player. Im Branch took a stand and suspended this useless goon for the year!

  • Shut the fuck up you faggot. It was a charge and an intent to injure. Thats why he got suspended dumbass.

  • A charge? explain to me you "faggot", how that was a charge. Liambus did not leave his feet and did not stride into him!! So you are not allowed to hit someone when you have speed on the forecheck? Fuck you obviously have never played hockey before, that pussy defense turned at the last second and there is NO WAY Liambus was trying to injure this kid. It's impossible to hold up when someone turns I know ive played the game so "shut the fuck up" poser.

  • Charge or no charge you don't need to smash someone's head into the boards.... thats intent to injure... there's no place for that in the game... if you want to injure drop your gloves

  • Never played hockey in my life thats why I'm on the AAA Jr. Canadians but sure. Why are you calling him a pussy defence you Jew just cause he got injured have some sympathy you cunt.

  • His own fault!!! You have got to be kidding... You are clueless when it comes to the game of hockey!!! The hit was definitely with intended!!!!

  • Yeah it was a clean hit, a clean hit with the elbow to the head. No need for the arm to come up like and with the elbow out, if it had been a bodycheck it would have been clean.

Now it wasn't a bodycheck, it was a elbow to the head for god's sake. And that if anything is NOT clean.

  • Ben Fanelli 6'1''-177lbs hit by Michael Limbas 5'9''-204lbs, clean hit, just took it wrong and got injured. Part of the game. Call it vicious, malicious, violent or whatever, thats why Limbas is on the team to hit and hit hard if he doesn't do that he doesn't play. It's unfortunate for Fanelli, I have seen it happen before I'm sure he'll make a full recovery.

  • Charging

    Intend to injure

    Fair. Next.

  • no intent to injur are you freeking blind? look at his elbow how it goes up and the strides that he took before he hit him. He had lots of time to think about what he wanted to do. I think a whole year is not enough. some idiots out there have to realize that it is just a sport and people playing are humans. stupid ego's and pride once again. suspend him for life far as I am concern....maybe the next one will think twice to be a coward.

  • shut your fucking mouth buddy and how about you play the game before you start running your fucking mouth there was nothign wrong with that hit at all....im a ref a and a defensemen playing in a jr league of hockey and i think theres nothign wrong with that hit...first off yeah he took alot of strides then he stopped his strides so he was gliding....his arm did come up....and u tell me why his helmet flew off so easily maybe he didnt have it on right..i bet that woukld have saved alot of problem

  • @davis0428 Well, it was elbow to head. how about that?

  • Hey davis0424 i do play hockey you dick wad, and you tell me if that was such a clean hit WHY is he suspended for the year, and you call yourself a ref. shit heads like you think that is hockey, wonder if someone plows your body through the boards, I wonder if you will think that was a clean hit.???? over 18 years of hockey buddy, including 6 years in senior provincial.. that hit was a cowardly hit ....or maybe your just a cowardly player.

  • thought w/ fanelli's famz

  • I'm sorry but there was nothing wrong with that hit. He turned away last second. I really feel bad for the guy but it's his own fault.

  • totally agree w/ u. honesty, he shouldnt even be a suspension cause theyres no intent to injure, but if anything, 2-4 gms

  • Not even, 4 games. Part of hockey is keeping your head up. Like it's too bad the guy got hurt but had he got up and continued playing, it would have been viewed as a nice big hit. But I hope the guy gets through the whole thing cause that looked painful!

  • Fanelli turned away from the hit. If any suspension, should be 3-5 games tops. Definately not worth a season

  • lmao, is he dead ?

  • I hope none of you or your loved ones get crushed and have to read some of the things people are posting on here.

  • clean hit, had no intentions of hurting the kid, just caught em' off guard haha solid

  • Comment removed

  • clean hit

hopefully kids watching this video will learn to tighten their chin straps so their helmet doesn't fly off mid hit and fracture their skull.

Keep your head up at this level, just look at what happened to Lindros... never the same.

  • Welcome to the OHL, bitch!

    *(O.C reference)

  • 1 year....wow

    poor liambas

  • If the rules of the league do not define this as a dirty hit, the rules are garbage. This violence is sickening. Liambus should be charged criminally with assult causing grievous bodily injury.

  • agree, like Jonathan Roy's savage agression on Bobby Nadeau(LHJMQ).

  • @pzbrawl you're a retard, plain and simple. When you play a sport, like hockey, you understand the risks. This guy turned his back to a player coming towards him at a fairly high speed. What did he think was going to happen? The guy has already committed to hitting the other player, the guy that get's hit turns his back at the last second and gets hit into the boards. You should maybe play a sport instead of commenting on videos about how people should be charged. You're just dumb.

  • I played hockey for 20 years, thanks.

A league which does not severely punish hits like that is criminal.

  • if i look at this most closely im not a hockey watcher so i dont know if it is against the rules or not looks like the lambus i believe the guy in question is raises his hockey stick up to hit him when he clides into him and also it looks like the new guy who got hit didn't turn on his own he was spun into the wall by him but yeah like i said idk the rules but i think he got what he deserved and i feel bad for the rookie

  • After looking at the hit over and over again in both regular speed and slow motion, I feel the hit was not intended to cause injury. There was no "charging" and Fanelli turned his back at the wrong time. An unfortunate incident to say the least but a suspension as was handed out......BS.

  • This is barely a penalty. Fanelli turned his back after Liambus had crossed the goal line. He was committed no way of stopping. Liambus hardly took any strides from the top of circles in, he wasn't even accelerating.Unfortunate incident, hope Fanelli has full recovery. If you start giving suspensions of any kind for hits like that the sport of hockey will soon be ruined. Have to start putting in penalty for when players turn their back. Similar to a diving call. Then players will quit turning.

  • this was chargeing, plain and simple. a season suspension is harsh tho

  • Charging can be one of two things. Leaving your feet before contact is made, or skating more than 3 strides to your opponent. Tell me when you see one of those taking place on the body check.

  • I think the hit from behind was unintentional. Liambus was just finishing his check and unfortunately Fanelli turned his back. I dont think he deserved a year suspension. If Fanelli wasn't injured Liambus wouldn't of got suspended at all. That just shows its the result that he was punished for not the actual hit. The league needed to make a quick example out of this because of the negative attention its getting. Nonetheless Liambus should just got 10 games at best.

  • Michael Liambas got what he deserved. If it kills his chances at pro hockey, then that's his fault. He has no regard for other players.

  • When you stop the video at 0:35, Liambus' elbow is clearly up. NOT a clean hit.

  • If you pause at 0:35 as you suggested, also saying his elbow is up, isn't entirely correct. If you pause at the late stages of 0:35 where the contact has just finished, that is when his elbow is at the same height as Fanelli's head. At this time though, Fanelli is already falling to the ice, hence his head is lower than it was when hit. Need to rethink your position on it.

  • I don't see the elbow. Looked at the reverse angle too and no way his elbow came up. Look at the follow through too, elbow was down coming in, and it was down coming out. Pretty hard to do that and sneak an elbow in don't you think?

  • that was a dirty hit, though he didnt leave his feet. he charged him from the hashmarks or before, aimed directly at his head and pushed it right into the boards..i use to play hockey and that is not a clean hit at all, he turned to play the puck and liambes could of hit him str8 on instead smashed his head right into the boardss...dirty hit...karmas a bitch liambes

  • There was nothing wrong with the hit. If Fanelli just stood up after that hit and acted like nothing happen no one would of said shit about it. The result of Fanelli being seriously injured is the reason why its getting so much attention. This kind of hit happens more often then you realize. Its hypocrisy for the league to promote hitting but heavily penalize it if it causes injury. Thats like a paradox, because every collision is a possible serious injury.

  • Clean hits don't result in a fractured skull and orbital bone

  • Well you can easily blame Fanelli for turning his back in the last second. It was an incredibly dumb move on his part to turn his back when a hit is coming. Regardless if he's trying to pass the puck or not. You should of never turn your back to oncoming opponent. I'd blame him for his stupidity then anything else. Its like a driving a car and not wearing your seatbelt. Fanelli should of known better.

  • Though a clean hit wouldn't result in a fractured skull, your helmet popping off most certainly doesn't help. His must not have been strapped on.

  • Fanelli's head hit the stanchion, which gave him the facial lacerations. I don't understand why players turn away to show their number. It's better to take the hit, rather than putting your well-being into another players hands. Most of the time, the player has no time to change his mind. Kind of the same thing when Liambus hit Tavares.

  • Absolutely tragic, yes. Illegal hit? NO. His head was in the wrong place and smashed the pole. This was a freak occurrence of placement and timing, and I hope that kid pulls through. From Hockey's perspective, this will just give more ammunition to all the milquetoasts who don't want anyone to compete against anyone else, EVER. I can hear them now..."Stay in your living room on your nice soft couch, and we'll tell you what's good for you..."

  • Brinkybear there are about 10 videos that clearly show he didn't jump. i play hockey and i am play defense, the guy was nearly standing straight up, and if he would have been closer to the boards the hit would not have been near as violent as it was, or if he hadn't turned, it is shitty, but there was nothing wrong with that hit.

  • Obviously Liambas hit him as hard as he could, near the boards, smashing his head into the stancheon and braking his skull. The result was grievous injury. If the league permits that, it's barbarous and criminal.

  • Maybe you should have taken ballet classes instead of play hockey for 20 years? What do you think of football then, barbaric aswell? Please. Hits occur, injuries happen. The injury is unfortunate, but maybe players will take notice NOT to turn their backs at the very last instance in hopes that the player will simply skate by.

  • I recommed you try another sport, like knitting. Knit yerself a fucking somebodyyyyy

  • I'd say it wasn't the cleanist of hits but by the rules its fine other than maybe a bit of a charge. Its hard to tell but hes probably in the hospital because his helmet wasn't on very good and he hit his head on the ice not from hitting his head on the boards

  • Finished his check with his feet on the ice and elbow down. Fanelli turned...too bad he got hurt though

  • I live in kitchener and my mom does the stats for the rangers and my brother was also at that game and they both came home after that game saying it was a dirty hit! He turned around to try to play the puck and Laimbus did indeed jump on him! He was not ready for the hit and didnt turn around to try to protect himself he just tryed to play the puck!

It was a nasty hit and he Laimbus deserves what he got!

  • Ben I hope you get better man =(

  • No, that was not a fair hit for anyone that thinks so, it was quite obviously head checking which is a penalty...and he didn't turn from the check he was turning to pass the puck, the Liambus still could've got shoulder

  • I hate fucking head shots and all, but that didn't seem dirty. Horrible luck. Hope the guy will be OK.

  • he turned

  • you got to protect yourself,he see the guy comnig and he turn !!!

Srry but nothing like the Phaneuf incident !

  • Fair hit,bad luck !

  • Season ban is way too harsh.

  • Season is too extreme, He didn't leave his feet, on this video if you replay it like a million times he made contact with his shoulder first, Kid got hurt cause his head bounced off the boards. He also turned his back last second on the play.

From my perspective it apears that Liambus was going for the big hit, and Fanelli turned last second causing him to miss his body and catch his head.

    Too bad for both players

  • It's ridiculous he got suspended for the entire season. That was a clean hit, and if he was wearing his helmet properly, with the chin strap done up he would not have been injured. It was shoulder to shoulder and unfortunate his head hit the glass and the ice.

That was not a deliberate attempt to injure. go watch Bertuzzi on Moore, or Roy on Nadeau if you want to see a deliberate attempt to injure, so you can shut up spillbait69.

  • Another sucker like phaneuf who try to kill everyone on ice YEAH!!!! and that will fucking continue untill they kick their ass from the ligue... idiot like this should not even play hockey...

  • night night!!

  • He Turned,, Simple as That

  • Someone explain to me why this is flagged

  • im glad they tossed this goof for the rest of the season. that was a deliberate attempt to injure ither wise he wouldnt have taken the extra stride to gain more speed.

simple fact is this isnt the first time hes hit someone from behind and im sure that factored in the decision to give him the boot.

those of you blaming fanelli for any part of that hit are clueless morons.

  • Seriously? wtf is up with suspending this guy for the season? It sucks Fanelli got hurt but this is why you don't turn at the last second before taking a hit. I hope Fanelli is alright but a lesson should be learned here.

  • a whole season and playoffs

  • check out the hit by Liambas on Tavares!

Good thing he didn't hurt Tavares too.

  • idk how the hell you can suspend him for the entire season for that hit. If he hadn't turned himself into that hit he'd be fine. His own fault.

  • Lmao... he trucks the other guy too.

  • This poor kid turned, either in fear or because of inexperience. If he hadn't turned he wouldn't have been hurt. Liambus had little or no time to react to him turning.

  • He didn't turn because he was scared he just had his head down when he picked up the puck.

  • clean hit, no elbow, no headshot, fanelli turned at the last second, maybe now he will wear his chin strap properly... if he gets the chance. hope he does.

  • the hit was clean. even david branch agreed that it was a clean hit. but look at the speed he had coming in. he knew exactly what he was doing. he saw the chance to label the kid and he took it. it all comes down to respect and he didn't have it.

  • Comment removed

  • clean hit. you assume the risk when you step out there. it sucks for everyone involved

  • Maybe he doesn't deserve the benefit of doubt, I've never really watched him play. At face value, the only intent I see is to make a big hit, not to half kill a kid. Nobody wants to see these kind of accidents though.

  • clean hit, its the kids fucking fault for turning around like an idiot, what do you want liambus to do hold him? lol

  • Awesome. Banned for the rest of the year. Hope this moron never comes back.

  • The hit was definitely punishable, all players must be held accountable on the ice. But that hit wasn't anything other than routine until a) the victim turned, Liambus was committed to the hit, and b) the helmet defected. Fifteen games would have been a fair number everything considered, but the suspension turned into a PR 'Let's Make An Example Of Him' call that probably ended his hockey career all-together.

Players should be held accountable, but not held back from finishing a check.

  • Do you watch the OHL? This guy had no career, he's a goon and he does things like this all the time. He knew this kid as a rookie 16-year old and wanted to show him whats up. I'm glad he's gone, making the OHL better one player at a time.

  • Fanelli was behind the net and clearly saw him coming and if you pause it he was facing him straight on when he was literally a meter away then all the sudden he turned around

  • I didn't know Fanelli could see through goalies...

  • Exactly what I was thinking.

Liambas was clearly taking a run at this kid near the boards. I don't care "if this stuff happens all the time"; "this stuff" can result in life-threatening injuries.

  • This isn't a long enough version. From the top of the circles down he turns and check liambus about 4 times.

It wasn't either kids fault. It was just a terrible result

  • I at least agree that both sides got very unlucky... but that's why you should just avoid plays like these. Not worth it...

  • Liambus = fucking piece of shit, that goddamn fuckhead deserve to be banned for life from hockey, lack of intelligence, due to parenthood, fuck you assclown.

  • You're an idiot.

  • thanks! go play soccer scumwaste

  • thats sick.... why would someone to that

  • didnt help the elbow i saw in the vid and as for him turning he was playing the puck yeah it was a hit maybe if it was a clean hit he wouldnt be in intensive care

  • That hit are clean !!! Are you sick !!! ELBOW his too hish !!!

We are so close to see a player dead after a hit !!!

  • i hate that people who don't play hockey comment on how dirty this hit was. but coming from a players perspective, things can happen within the blink of an eye during a game. I know I've done some pretty shitty stuff before that was completely unintentional. Liambus was following through on his check and Fanelli put himself in an awkward position where he followed through with his pass. its unfortunate that this had to happen but thats the sport of hockey. you take a risk going out there

  • Certainly not worth a years suspension. It doesn't appear to me as if there was any malicious intent. He came in hard, and Fanelli turned at the last minute. He appeared to hit him on the shoulder or armpit area so he wasn't going at the head. Typical David Branch protected his star teams with huge unwarranted suspensions.

(Thats not to say there should've been no suspension, just nowhere near this long)

  • I agree. The hit was brutal, but he turned into at the last moment to try and play the puck, head down the entire time so he had no idea it was coming. He was gunning to hit him, no question, but I doubt he thought he'd turn like that.

  • looked clean but very unfortunate outcome. Awful when that happens.

  • the guy who is hurt turned his back at the last second when he saw the guy coming to hit him. and against the boards! this is a bad mistake and its unfortunate the guy who hit him is suspended for it, there is no way to hold up when you're going that fast and committed to the hit and the guy turns his back on you.

  • He did not "turn" in an attempt to avoid the hit. He turned to rim the puck around the opposite wall. Liamus was going full speed, made no attempt to slow down, and made contact with only the upper portion of Fanelli's body. The other view shows how he blatantly hit him with his elbow. I'd rather be suspended for a the rest of the season than almost dead. The purpose of hitting is to separate the man from the puck. This was overkill.

  • what a great hit

  • faggot

  • i hope u get brain cancer

  • lol who flagged this? anyway nice hit.

  • Dude, Liambus's whole body weight crushed Fanelli's head against the glass. He's is right now in critical condition at the hospital....nice?? I think not.

  • wen i meant nice i meant keeping it clean but i feel sad for fanelli

  • suspended for the season for a clean hit, wow.

  • dri ndle69, how the hell is that a clean hit? He charged directly for his head. Even if that's not what he was aiming for, he charged his head and he's in the hospital. It is in no way a clean hit.

  • Excuse me? You call that a clean hit?

He flew in at Fanelli and smashed him with his elbow. That's pretty deliberate. And then he goes and takes out the other guy by the net.

And let's not forget that this isn't an isolated incident for Liambus.

I think he deserves the suspension for that disgusting display. Had I been on Kitchener, I would have fucking destroyed him. I bet the fucker doesn't even feel remorse for it.

Hockey needs less players like Sean Avery, Steve Downie and Mike Liambus.

  • the guy turned his back. suspended for the entire season is too harsh.

  • Granted, but he was going for the puck.

I've seen a situation like this back when I played, and I'll tell you that even the players on the other team were pissed off at the guy who took a shot like this. It's not a clean hit, and considering that Liambus has had other incidents of vicious play, I think it's about time. And anyways, he's a 20 year old in the OHL, he was done after the season anyways. The NHL doesn't want assholes like this playing.

  • Yes, hockey needs less players like Avery.

That was a clean hit, and just an unfortunate circumstance. I feel incredibly bad for Fanelli, and never want to see that, but he didn't lead with the elbow, and it was shoulder to shoulder, until his speed carried him past the initial contact into the head.

The other guy came after him, and I don't see how that's related.

This is such a sad situation, and it's unfortunate that he got such a huge supension, but that's a whole different story.

  • That was FAR from a clean hit. He hit the guy from behind into the boards!!!!!! Fair enough, Fanelli turned his back at the last second, but it's the responsibility of the hitter to ease up!

  • they say the kids helmet (happens often) wasnt on tight, see how it flew off?

these kids need to learn to fasten it on PROPERLY

    unfortunate injury tho

  • I hate him!

  • If the kid hadnt turned to pass the puck he wouldn't have been injured. That hit was clean and in no way deserved a season suspension. Was he coming in fast? Yes, but you're suppose to put pressure on the D to make a quick decision and maybe make a gaff and turn the puck over. He finished his check and unfortunately the kid is badly injured.

    Brutal call on the suspension.

  • hmmmm, definitely a charge, he speeded himself up to deck him. Does the suspension fit, I don't think so, however, look at a couple of his other hits, especially on Tavares, maybe there is some history there that is going unmentioned

  • A suspension for what? The hit was lined up to be clean, he didn't elbow him or jump. Ben turtled like a pussy, what else do you expect when someone is in full stride and has you lined up and you turn your back to them at the very last second?

  • Suspension is way to severe but do I want to see things like that in a game of hockey ? The answer is NO but might not be for most of the people. The beauty of the game resides in the amazing puck and stick handling that is shown at such a high level. Why do we even tolerate hits (Even the minor ones )? Would'nt the game be a lot more exciting if the players could play and show their amazing skills without being affraid of being stamped on the board every 2 seconds ? Just my two cents here...

  • That hit was clean, that's happens when you turn your back to a hit, no disrespect for him but it's true... as for the no hitting hockey... go play ringette

  • anybody that thinks the hit was clean needs some , the kid almost lost his life you need to wake up from the macho bullshit

  • if you understand the game, you'll realize it was a clean hit, the fault was on fanelli who decided to turn, Liambus hit him with a shoulder, would've hit him on the chest or shoulder, but her turned, you can't blame Liambus for Fanelli turning at the very last second

  • Liambas should have received some suspension but not indeffinitely.

Liambas' team has seen their share of misfortune. Many of the Otter's injured players last year found no justice because the people who hit them recieved no penalties. Many recieved concussions from those hits and were out for the duration of the year.

This was not the cleanest hit in the OHL, but if you do want to see some dirty hits why don't you do a youtube search for Zac Rinaldo and get back to me.

  • what a sweet clean hit, awesome hit keep up the good work kid

  • you will be stupid your whole life thats a guarantee

  • The guy got the worse cause he hit the pillar! Thats why he is in bad shape! But hey like the tree huggers they take things out on the wrong people!Thats canada for you!

  • As bad as I feel for Fanelli, the OHL just turned one tragedy into two by suspending Liambas for the rest of the season. That is ridiculous overkill for a freak accident resulting from a hit that was worst case scenario questionable. Plays like this happen all the time in high caliber hockey. This is not an elbow, nor is it charging.

  • this is a clean hit, the kid is only going in to finish his check and unfortunately the other kid turned and hit his head off the glass, these things happen in hockey games and i don't think either kids are at fault , just an tragic incident, hope he gets better soon, and they both continue playing as they should.

  • I am a loyal Otters fan since they have been in Erie and never have been so appalled at a Otter for his actions on the ice. This was a blatant head shot with a elbow and I support David Branch's ruling. Liambas is and will always be a dirty player. The majority of Erie fans will disagree with me however because they really dont understand hockey and let their bias get in the way of fair judgment.
