  • I finally got this on DVD just over a year ago. Even though it is not my favourite piece of Goon footage, it did make me chuckle.

I adore the part of the movie when Eccles kicks his shoe into the window. The first time I saw that, tears streamed down my face with laughter!

  • brilliant

  • this film is a bore. nothing like the goon show. total waste of money. spike didn't write it so it's not real goons. if you want to laugh, stick to the radio

  • hehehe remember what happened to Colonel Bentine? He thought he could get away with it. And you know what happened?

    ........................

    HE GOT AWAY WITH IT!

  • 0:54 :DDDD is that ECCLES?

  • The bloke marching in the barracks is indeed eccles

  • i got this on VHS, it's brilliant!!

  • I just found this film on a DOLLAR DVD! It only says "Peter Sellars - Down Among The Z Men" on the cover, and when I put it on, the Title screens begins with "THE GOONS"! Calloo Callay! I'd never heard of it, but it's a cracking good view for fans of the Goon Show!

(The DVD is released through "Movie Classics" Item 62319, at "991-c Lomas Santa Fe Drive Solana Beach, CA 92075" I hope writing that doesn't violate YouTube TOS.)

  • Spike had a bad time of it in the Army (RA) in N.Africa and Italy - Read his 4 books about it - hilarious and sad at the same time

  • he wrote 7 books on his time in the army. but yeah- they are great stuff ( techincally the seventh although in the collection is more about his work after the war) i reccomend them muchly. Cheerio

  • I have this movie on DVD. My favorite bit is when Eccles (Spike M.) plays his trumpet so loudly that everyone wakes up!

  • This film used to be on laserdisc here in the USA, and that's how I got to see it. Don't get TOO excited over it, Goon Show enthusiasts.....it's not a true adaptation of the Goon Show with all it's stock characters, nor is it in that style. I remember it as more of a conventional British comedy of that era.

  • This is from Down Among the Z Men made in in 1951/1952. Check out Peter Sellers amazing impersonation of an American commander and Michael Bentine's Sherwood and Forrest routine

  • what can be said? God Bless Spike.

    and his family.

  • they made a movie???

  • Yes. Called "Down Among the Z Men". :P

  • Ah, Down Among The Z Men, I haven't seen this film in years! Good ole Spike!

  • A GOON SHOW MOVIE! when did they make this?

  • 1952

  • they did a moive!

  • 'The case of the muckinese battlehorn' is more of a Goon style movie than this, I think.

  • You can hear the goon show on radio 7's listen again Web page.

  • Huge fan of the Goon Show. HUGE! Z Men wasn't as funny. If anyone ever gets a chance to hear the affair of the Lone Banana, or The Phantom Head Shaver, you won't regret it. Thanks for the clip.

  • Yeah, or Emperor of the Universe--that one's probably my favourite (although the Lone Banana comes close) and their version of a 'Christmas Carol' and 'Robin Hood' are hilarious

  • omg there was a movie of this!? lol the Radio Show is Funny lol!

  • Unfortunatly, this film is not available her in the States.

  • i love the goon show your cool

  • Lol, I love the goon show. Eccles rox, he's such an idiot. Does anyone here listen to it?
