I know they were already painted way back before you guys hit the place, but I hate to see all that great wood trim painted. I think it was the 70's era that prompted people to paint paint paint.

Nothing (to me anyway) looks better the nice wood trim all round. My house is 109 years old, and throughout the reno's over the years (pre my ownership) lotsa trim gone and or painted (counted 7 or 8 layers and at least 4 different colours) sigh

went through the trouble on the floors, and painted all the wood trim. drives me up the wall. to each his own I suppose. I restore antique furniture, so seeing paint on wood drives me insane. you only paint poplar! that's it!
