I work at a restaurant as a server and I barely make 10,000 a year not even enough to get by half the time and I go to bed hungry a lot of times if I were paid 2.10 an hour I will be living on the streets homeless. By the way me and all my co-workers would LOVE to know what restaurant I can make 100,000.00 a year at so we can all put in an application there.
Emmer doesn't say in the video that he believes all wait staff make $100k a year. Of course they don't. He just comments here that he thinks it's wonderful that some are able to do that well. Emmer also at no time proposes reducing the minimum wage. Let's stick to the facts.

Obviously he is someone who has never waited table, let alone have some yahoo eat a meal and then walk out on the check without paying...and guess who pays for that meal? Not the "restauranteer"...the wait person who "let" the "patron" walk the check pays, out of that "100,000.00" annual wage that this guy apparently thinks that most wait staff make and take out of the owner's pocket.
the minimum wage is 7.25 an hour. most waiters and waitresses work for 2.10 hr,plus tips. so tips is really what makes their salary. even if you get rid of the minimum wage it would not effect any jobs to speak of.
Which butt did he pull that 100k per year number? I'm sure it's not the majority of working servers in the country. Payscale.com has a good estimate of the actual incomes for servers working based on experience. I bet he's doing the stupid thing where he chooses the most absurd number and acts like that's normal. To use his same logic, twist this to, "Many servers are making AS LITTLE AS 19,000 dollars a year! That's crazy! If we had minimum wage laws this would not be happening!"
Thanks, Good point. Lower the minimum wage to a more competitive level. Lets say 35 cents per hour. I love how all of the political elite looks out for the little people. After all, isn't that what Free Market Capitalism is supposed to be. Competing globally for the lowest wage?

A person working full time and earning a minimum wage makes $7.25 an hour which is $290 a week full-time and $15,660 a year BEFORE taxes.
Last I heard (which was back in '07-'08) the median income was around $45,000 a year. In my home state of Oklahoma it was around $36,000 a year.
