  • is this the car that they are selling on ebay at the moment?

  • @marel0086 : I don't lie, this is real.

  • I know we currently have a 305 bhp that has a lot of goodies on it but man o man is this car still so amazing.

  • one of the few cars that looks uglier in a coupe shape than 4d sedan ! Still brilliant

  • So there is no way to transform a usdm 2.5rs into a 22b?

  • 22b is not for "2.2L and Bilstein suspension", it's the hexadecimal version of "555", the WRC car.

  • @BigBoost11~ dont lie.

  • Subaru should definitely remake the 2 door STI. I love that thing!

  • the basic of winning later the World Rally Championship of 2001 .

  • 22B Fact 1 : 22B is the best subaru ever made

22B Fact 2 : 22B is the best subaru ever made

22B Fact 3 : I think you know hat i am going to say

22 IS THE BEST SUBARU EVER

  • can someone tell me the average price for these?

  • Pink....thought it was ruby red?

  • Lovely car my dream car...

  • this cars is water in the desert is so awesome i loved

  • gorgeous

  • 3 people own evos and are helpless

  • Awesome Car Still The Best, That 22b don't have the original BBS alloys though.

  • Rare. Definately a piece of History. Shame it's just so over priced.

  • Hi there. I have a question that surely someone here can aswer. Im wondering if the 22B is the same wide as the '97 '98 '99 WRC. I've heard that body kit and colour were designed for WRC, but I'm not totally sure... Can anyone help??

  • @Vladamor The body kit on a WRC is customdesigned for the rally car, the 22b is way WAY different. The Suspension on the 22b is different, but mostly the wheels give the offset, the chassic is GC8

  • @Brettmiddleton Ok. I only want to know about the bodykit. The rest of the car are totally different, I know, but I'm trying to find if the measures of the bodykits are the same. I'm not a "ricer" like the people say around here, it's just I'm going to try to make my own 22B in 1/24 scale. It's an awesome car BTW.

  • @Vladamor sorry, no idea

  • @Brettmiddleton Ok Brett, thanks for your help anyway. I'll keep looking for that info. BTW, nide videos of an awesome car. Yes, vimmeh was right, a ver very lucky owner...

  • Gorgeuous car Brett, thats one lucky owner.

  • @vimmeh yes 100%

  • Thanks Brett nice to hear someone who knows what they're talking about

  • @shootout73 thanks

  • so i still have yet to make sense of this car, im a huge subaru fan. drive a 01 rs coupe with 07 sti swap. i plan on eventually installing a 22b replica widebody. what i cant figure out is, did the wider track (to fill the wider fenders) come from the suspension + the offset in the wheels? or did it come from the wheel offset only?

  • @murican1 off set of wheels only

  • the stars on theSubaru emblem come from the Pleiades star cluster

  • @vicviper13 100% re the basis of the subaru logo

  • why do the new 2011 subaru looks shit?

    subaru <3

  • @acegamer58937 wish they were the same looking as these 1s.. 2008-11 just geting uglier... being a subaru fan becomes harder:(

  • la migliore impreza di sempre..........

  • 16 uk ones

    500 jap ones

    22b amazing i loved my dad 22b :)

omg if i owned that 22b i wouldent take it there .

but they did make it in 1999 as well .

  • @crabzy not sure what you mean by "would not take it there"

  • @Brettmiddleton

wouldent take it to that garage .

  • @Brettmiddleton No, there were non of those made, only RHD.

  • @Karazt78 yes the 22b was only ever sold RHD

  • I want to know is there any model of 22b with steering wheel on left side?

  • @TheBilice I dont think so

  • @TheBilice no sir , their are some fakes, or conversions (some look rather nice, but not the real thing

  • they should make a 2d00r limited 22b 2011 subaru car

  • I am a huge 22b fan, thank you for uploading..

  • Comment removed

  • yeah it does really worth the title legendary

  • Really nice video, so the suspension components don't actually widen the track, the arches are just to accomidate bigger wheels with a wider offset?

  • @RocketNothing correct

  • Brakes were not made by brembo

  • @DreamTripper normally not called Brembo, but are made by them

  • @Brettmiddleton they are made by sumitomo. It's a common misconception they are made by brembo.

  • @DreamTripper hmm, fair point, thanks for the correction :)

  • @Brettmiddleton No problem. :oD

  • @DreamTripper

majority of japanese calipers are made by sumitomo (Nissans, Subarus, Mazdas)

Brembos didnt come in until the GD chassis on the STis i believe

  • Comment removed

  • i think the video need to be corrected at 0:27 ...from what i red and heard, 22b does not come from the 2.2liters but 22b is the hexadecimal result of 555 (try it with your home calculator ;) ) the cigarette sponsor where the first 22b WRC been shown. Then, they created the limited edition of 22b in rememberance of the rally car at this time. i may be wrong so if its the case, thx to correct me

    cheers!

  • @rootsfi you are correct and this has also been discussed in previous comments. Thanks for your update you are correct

  • @Brettmiddleton sorry, i guess i didnt saw far enough but still, great video and its really nice to see a 22b in EVERY angles like this

    cheers

  • I'll sell u one......

  • we call it... Subaru Impreza 22BADASS! Around my place, whoever own this car definitely not selling it... which we think it is THAT good.

  • 3:36 "wider wheelbase" ?

    NO - wider TRACK !!!

  • @nordhorny Well said, 100% correct

  • @nordhorny Indeed !

I have a background in engineering and could not let that schoolboy error go unchecked !

  • YESSS 22B WITH ADVAN RS RIMS !!!!!!!

  • i found a original on carsguide aus magazine for $88,000 i wish could get but just got l's and cant drive any vehclesthat turbo + $ i dont have $88,000

  • so cool this is still my dream car

  • 0:23 - "The 22B derives its name from the 2.2L engine"

No, it doesn't. 22B is hexdecimal for "555", which was the Subaru World Rally Teams major sponsor in the 90's.

    Otherwise, good video!

  • I'd give my left nut for this car... shit i'd give both of my nuts for this car.

  • @carveriscool hahaah well said!

  • Beautiful!

  • @kyb2005 thanks

  • the GC is a sedan. GM is a coupe if i'm not mistaken.

  • @timsk to be accurate yes

  • anywhere that sells them,i thought a 22b was a gc8 chassis

  • lets say if i were to go with the front bumper and hood also the fenders? will the headlight assembly come into -play as well as the grille?

  • @420swisha420 lets make it easier, where are you going to get the parts?

  • well, just to make things easier, can ANY 22B exterior parts fit on it? or should i just stick with the GC8 parts for the car

  • @420swisha420 yes, BUT to fit the rear fenders you have to CUT OUT the old ones!

  • well what can and what cannot go on it then?

  • @420swisha420 there is physically not enough space for me to type the list! sorry

  • Can 22b parts bolt onto my gc8 impreza?

  • @420swisha420 some parts can but you have to b e careful what ones you use

  • Can i put any 22B style exterior parts on my GC8 USDM market?

  • could the 22b exterior and motor bolt right onto my 97 impreza L? USDM

  • @420swisha420 big job!

  • Impreza 22B STI / impreza 1998 WRC a legjobb gép "number 3 " Colin McRae

  • cheers for taking the time to do this brett. its obvious its the car is just in for a service and u took the time and opportunity to film this especially rare car and talk about the dynamics and intricacies involved with it. just shows the passion u guys down at mrt have for your cars which is great to see. keep up the good work!

  • @biggestsubiefan98 thanks!

  • Dear Brett,

As a garaged occasional driver/future collectible, would you prefer one of these 22Bs or an R34 V-Spec II?

Which is a better long-term 'investment' (*crosses fingers behind back, nodding emphatically at wife*) in your opinion?

  • @TROLLiLICIOUS we have been involved in several clients investing in these cars and the 22b so far has proved worthwhile and the ROI worked out!

hope thats what ya wanted me to say!

  • @Brettmiddleton Haha! too right, cheers Brett.

  • @TROLLiLICIOUS an R34 V-Spec ll if you can find one. 22bs are just to hard to find and even if you do find one the mileage will be very bad.

  • sizzler831 who cares......... loser

  • @Abbertont we encourage ppl to reply and share opinions and views so we all help each other. Your opinion is just as valued :) but lets not get personal

    B

  • Hi Brett

Interesting video on the 22b,but i have to say that the car featured is far from original!! Radiator cap, gearknob, rotors, wheels, stereo, pedals etc all unoriginal. I live in wa and my 22b has only 9200kms with the original tyres etc and totally unmodified.Don,t want to sound rude but to me that is the true meaning of original!!

  • hey great! thanks for your feedback it all helps!

    :)

  • FYI, Brett- "mistaken assumption that 22 referred to the 2.2 litre engine and the B stood for Bilstein, the cars suspension manufacturers. The truth is 22B is hexadecimal (number base 16, used in the coding of computer programmes where the letter A to F are used for the numbers 10 to 15) for 555. "

  • @projectwrxtreme Correct and good feedback

    thanks!

    Brett

  • Those are aftermarket wheels and it appears to have the brakes off of an 06/07 WRX (not brembo). :)

  • @snowflowmfg

the 22b did not have large brembo brakes, it had the small ones, like that fitted on the early Sti's adn later the WRX

  • That is not the stock rims!

  • I think thats been discussed below

  • Oh, didn't notice.. Did you get to drive this car? If so, how was it?

I live in Norway, and the law here makes this car not legal for the road. But before this law was written, one single norwegian imported one so we have one single road legal 22b here in Norway! Yes, ONE! And some day it WILL be mine! :D

  • @aki1337 agreed

  • 22B doesn't come from the engine. Yes its true its a 2.0 bored to a 2.2 but, 22B its numerical code for 555. As in the team.

  • Everything is possible as long as you have money!!i'm thinking just now that prpbably u can swap a lhd dashboard in it w/o much difficulties...

  • they didn't, but i just want to ask if it is possible to convert one to LHD? i know that people do such a things and i hope 22b can be converted too, but the thing is that there's only 400 of 22b's, so thats why i'm asking if it can be converted to LHD

  • ohhh 22b is the car i dream about having one day. Just one serious question: is it possible to put the steering wheel to the left side? i mean to make it for a right side driving (europe). Sorry for my english.

  • I dont think they ever made any LHD 22b's

  • this is PORN daddy please can i have a 22b

  • that's my favorite car :)

  • Nice one Brett... Keep them coming, realy are alot of differences in the ra, rs (mine), 22b, an older sti you know it. Really amazing if you ask me. Should of made all GC8 impreza rs's a 22b an leave it at that, haha. U.S. realy needs to step their game up like you guys. "Cheers" to you Brett..

  • thanks for your support

  • is he being sponsored by subara to say unique all the time?

  • great video

  • cool video

  • thanks!

    :)

  • Hi Brett. rthanks for creating this video for all STI enthusiasts around the globe. Question: Is there any way of verifying or confirming that the red 4 pot calipers found on the 22B are manufactured by Brembo? As identical looking calipers can be found on other similar aged STI's.

  • Subaru like all car manufacturers use many suppliers, Brembo is one of them.

But the aftermarekt induystry uses acronyms. The Gold STi caliper are often referred as Brembo's and this is correct.

BUT Brembo actuall make MANY different calipers, and the 4 pots red and black on WRX are also by Brembo. Check out a Mitsubishi and a Nisssan and you will also find Brembo calipers SIMILAR, but not exactly the same

    cheers

    B

  • They didn't have grooved discs they had the standard 16" ventilated discs, but neither does the car have Brembo's as suggested in the video. Has the Subaru 4 pot fronts same as the JDM STI's , just painted red instead of Black. 22B is based on the Version 4 STi Type R which also came with I/C spray, close ratio box and DCCD (as does the STi Type RA).

  • thanks for your feedback, just so ppl know the calipers you correctly speak of are actually made by Brembo, hence my comment

    cheers

    B

  • please upload part 2

  • it already is, see video response that i have linked so its easy to see

    B

  • yeah i no i got it! jsut it wasnt there b4!

  • Britans knoe their stuff about 22B.

  • Hes Australian ya knob

  • Knob?

  • means cock!

  • He's an aussie..

  • Part 2???

  • wheres part 2 ?

  • the type ra has the alloys arms and wishbone aswell

they aint brembo brakes, they are standard subaru 4pots,they aint standard 22b alloys either

he is comparing this car to a new shape sti like a blobeye, should compare it to a type r which its based on

    subaru in japanese means"gather together"

its not much different to a type r,all the controls he's talking about

the pedals and sill's and discs are aftermarket

for the money i would prefer a type r as i dont have £25k lol, looks stunning tho

  • Pretty sure the word Subaru means "Pleiades." Its the name of a star cluster.

  • where is parts 2

  • hmm...i wonder how much time and money would be consumed to make a 1998 2.5rs and swap in a newer Sti engine, drivetrain, etc. in it? And just wondering, does anyone know if the new sti is Direct Ignition and/or Direct Fuel Injection?

  • It depends on how good of a deal you can find a engine and transmission. Some people sell both for around 8k or higher.. some cheaper.

  • I really want that piece on the door for g-forces. I was doing a autocross event a couple of weeks ago and my knee kept hitting the door where the window controls are.

US cars never get the good stuff :(

  • you said at the start of video its completly standard its not, the wheels are not original and the brake dics and caliperes are not either? pedals and gear knob isnt original?

  • well spotted, yes we realised that after we did the video!

  • Great video! Best Subaru ever made, shame they dont make cars like them anymore.

Actually 22B names is derived from 555 in hexadecimal code. Also the 22B came with crappy rubber pedals not those aluminium STI ones.

  • interesting point, I never knew that!

  • Don't know if you know this Brett, But 22B in hexidecimal converts to 555 in decimal. And you would know what 555 means to scoobs!

Just a bit of trivia for you.

  • Nice, what a beautiful car. Not many of these around anymore so thanks for sharing in such great detail! I saw one drive through Hobart a few months ago, certainly didn't expect to see a 22B down here. Also, bit of a typo in the url at the start of the video too, no big deal.
