The real host of Masterpiece Theatre was really named Allister Cooke (like cook dinner). So it is definitely a play on his name. That's what I loved when I found that out.
Does anyone have the skit/scene where Lord Chatterly made a street scene on Sesame Street where he came to Oscar The Grouches trash can to interview Oscar's puppy named Preposterous asking whether he could have Preposterous on his Alphabet Chat show? If anyone has this skit/scene, could you please post it onto YouTube?
I love classical music, so I like how Chatterly mentions orchestra, oboe, & obbligatto! This 1 & R (both from the 70's) are great! But the newer 1 for B, well, Chatterly should've mentioned B for boring.
Now This is the Classic Muppet Humor that I remember from Sesame :) Why Doesn't Sesame Workshop do this? Only if The Jim Henson Company owned the characters, they would probably have more freedom and control over the writing like they did way back when.
This poor man was attempting to conduct an intelligent discussion about a very serious letter of the alphabet, and is faced with... foolishness! I'm outraged that Sesame Street didn't do a retake without the constant interuptions.
He sort of looks like the Count, too, when you take a good look at him. Imagine Mr. Chatterly without a moustache, his beard and hair black, and wearing a cape.
Was there any other time Lord Chatterly was seen on Sesame Street except here on these skits sitting in his chair next to the fireplace? I'm wondering this because I'm quite sure I saw a picture of Lord Chatterly on the internet (it's gone now) standing in front of Oscar The Grouch's trash can. I wonder what Lord Chatterly was doing on the streets of Sesame Street when he is usually supposed to be seen as the host of Alphabet Chat sitting in his chair next to the fireplace.
I remember Oscar's puppy named Preposterous on Sesame Street in the early 90s but, I don't remember seeing Lord Chatterly coming to the streets of Sesame Street to talk to Oscar (maybe because it was a long time ago and I was more younger back then. Also, maybe that was the picture I saw a long time ago with a close up of Lord Chatterly's face seeing a little bit of Oscar's trash can on the internet). I still think it looked funny seeing Lord Chatterly on the streets instead of at his studio.
The music is to the tune of Bach's "Fugue 2 in C Minor". It took a bit of whistling to place it, but I remembered because I've had the Wendy Carlos "Switched-On Bach 2000" synthesized version for years.
I saw a clip of this on an old tape I have and the melody was so familiar. I played the Fugue 2 in C minor on Switched-On Bach (1968)and it struck me. I've been humming this song ever since, :).
This is one of those Alphabet Chats I haven't seen. I thought someone told on the Internet that he did the Letter M, but I don't think he did I don't know. But this is one of the interesting Alphabet Chats.
Classic Muppet madness! Love it!

I hope Mr. Chatterly didn't go home and overdose on oxycodone, or an over-the-counter opiate.

There was an episode where Mr. Chatterly tried to talk to Oscar the Grouch about bringing Preposterous Puppy onto the show to discuss the letter P.

Another one of the luckless Lord Chatterly's attempts to share his love of letters! The kids are perfect interruptions, as is the hat lady!
