  • Classic Muppet madness! Love it!

  • I hope Mr. Chatterly didn't go home and overdose on oxycodone, or an over-the-counter opiate.

  • He's Famous For His SS Songs!!!!

  • Poor Lord Chatterly. Does that rabbit have an Idenity Crisis.

  • @TheMKEWERBY IDK

  • Does anyone have the "L" alphabet chat?

  • @superAJ71 I Don't

  • ABCDE-CDEFGHIJKLMNNNNOP-QRSTU-RSTUV-STUVWXYZ and AABBCCCCCCCCCCC!

  • what were these based on? Monsterpiece theatre was based off Masterpiece theatre..so what was the origin show for this...

  • This was just a sketch on its own. I don't believe it was ever based on Monsterpiece Theatre

  • no no no. lol. okay monsterpiece theatre was based on Masterpiece Theatre.

What was the origin show? meaning what show with a host with a similar name in real life is the origin or basis for this show?

  • The real host of Masterpiece Theatre was really named Allister Cooke (like cook dinner). So it is definitely a play on his name. That's what I loved when I found that out.

  • this displays just how much fun you can have when performing muppets

  • Does anyone have the skit/scene where Lord Chatterly made a street scene on Sesame Street where he came to Oscar The Grouches trash can to interview Oscar's puppy named Preposterous asking whether he could have Preposterous on his Alphabet Chat show? If anyone has this skit/scene, could you please post it onto YouTube?

  • I love classical music, so I like how Chatterly mentions orchestra, oboe, & obbligatto! This 1 & R (both from the 70's) are great! But the newer 1 for B, well, Chatterly should've mentioned B for boring.

  • Now This is the Classic Muppet Humor that I remember from Sesame :) Why Doesn't Sesame Workshop do this? Only if The Jim Henson Company owned the characters, they would probably have more freedom and control over the writing like they did way back when.

  • Does anyone have the alphabet chat sketch where Cookie Monster pokes his head in the window ? I would love to see that again.

  • This poor man was attempting to conduct an intelligent discussion about a very serious letter of the alphabet, and is faced with... foolishness! I'm outraged that Sesame Street didn't do a retake without the constant interuptions.

  • wow, the guys did alot of work in this sketch

  • Rabbit and cow may not start with O, but cow does have an O in the middle and rabbits hop which also has an O in the middle.

  • I miss this.

  • Anyone know who the stage manager was telling to "go away!" at the end of this sketch?

  • ...They never did get past take 47, did they?

What happened; Alphabet Chat's PBS funding run out? XD

  • im bored =( someone come chat with me s

  • Only if it's an alphabet chat.

  • Owned :D

  • Hop, hop, hop, turn. XD!!

  • he sounds like the count

  • He sort of looks like the Count, too, when you take a good look at him. Imagine Mr. Chatterly without a moustache, his beard and hair black, and wearing a cape.

  • He looked better with that silly hat on [;v)]..

  • Was there any other time Lord Chatterly was seen on Sesame Street except here on these skits sitting in his chair next to the fireplace? I'm wondering this because I'm quite sure I saw a picture of Lord Chatterly on the internet (it's gone now) standing in front of Oscar The Grouch's trash can. I wonder what Lord Chatterly was doing on the streets of Sesame Street when he is usually supposed to be seen as the host of Alphabet Chat sitting in his chair next to the fireplace.

  • There was an episode where Mr. Chatterly tried to talk to Oscar the Grouch about bringing Preposterous Puppy onto the show to discuss the letter P.

  • I remember Oscar's puppy named Preposterous on Sesame Street in the early 90s but, I don't remember seeing Lord Chatterly coming to the streets of Sesame Street to talk to Oscar (maybe because it was a long time ago and I was more younger back then. Also, maybe that was the picture I saw a long time ago with a close up of Lord Chatterly's face seeing a little bit of Oscar's trash can on the internet). I still think it looked funny seeing Lord Chatterly on the streets instead of at his studio.

  • my favorite part: "These books aren't even real..these are painted on"....lol

  • @shydmples Come On, Let's Find Some Real Books

  • @cstoczyn lol...classic...lol

  • @shydmples Yep

  • my favorite part: "These books aren't even real..these are painted on"....lol

  • wxyz and ABC LOL

    I miss these days.

    Luv IT!!

  • Yo, man... this dude's voice sounds a little bit like Vincent Price. This skit is da bomb diggity, y'all.

  • The music is to the tune of Bach's "Fugue 2 in C Minor". It took a bit of whistling to place it, but I remembered because I've had the Wendy Carlos "Switched-On Bach 2000" synthesized version for years.

  • I saw a clip of this on an old tape I have and the melody was so familiar. I played the Fugue 2 in C minor on Switched-On Bach (1968)and it struck me. I've been humming this song ever since, :).

  • I love this as well! Especially how they try to bend the alphabet to fit the melody :)

  • @welchm8 Love It

  • @welchm8

Very interesting indeed! Thank you for sharing!

  • Wow, I haven't seen this in years. I never forgot the music though. :)

  • Stop advertising this damnit!

  • It also scared the crap out of me when i was a kid.

  • Another one of the luckless Lord Chatterly's attempts to share his love of letters! The kids are perfect interruptions, as is the hat lady!

  • I always liked the way the theme song was sang myself.

  • I just love that theme song!

  • Chill out, Lord Chatterly.

  • Wow! While kids could learn some things from this O segment, this is mostly just a bundle of laughs with some random wanderers on the set.

  • I know, and the random bits are the best part!

  • This seriously freaked me out when I was little. I think it must've been the ominous music combined with the fire and goatee. Thanks for sharing! :)

  • This is one of those Alphabet Chats I haven't seen. I thought someone told on the Internet that he did the Letter M, but I don't think he did I don't know. But this is one of the interesting Alphabet Chats.

  • Sucks to be Lord Chatterly

  • I believe there was another copy of this somewhere that was posted earlier this year.
