  • ...hmm...these people certainly seem...industrious...(in a good way)...

  • Very cool and great video.

what did you end up putting over the sprayfoam interior?

    thanks,

    building one this fall.

is it on a basement or just a crawl space?

also, where in the country is this located? looks like Lake Shannon in Concrete, WA

    jesse in north dakota

  • @sm6jesse

    Hey Jesse,

Thanks for your interest. We were travelling in Peru when you posted.

If you're interested in knowing more, e me and we'll connect more directly.

  • Hey Guys! Thanks for sharing this. I Really enjoyed it. ;-)

  • What size is the home? As far as ordering the Quonset pieces, my wife and I would like to do this but can't decide size. Yours is perfect. Great job on the video. Who is the music by?

  • Our Quonset is 45' wide, 22' high and 32' long.

the original audio was pulled by YouTube, which is why you don't hear the dialog. The new audio is by an artist called Velocé - available to use on videos in cases like ours, where our audio had no license.

  • Hey Franck,

Whenever I try to post the direct link here, YouTube restricts it. Try navigating your way to Flickr, then search for william_chapman. Sorry I can't send the actual link.

  • Found it!! Thanks William.

  • Greetings from Quebec!

WELL DONE! and thank you for sharing. I tried to see the recent pictures on Flickr... unsuccessfully, would you have a direct link by anychance?

    Cheers. Franck

  • Hey, thanks for your response. You can see updated photos of the almost finished house here: My wife Michelle is a silversmith and master gardener. I was a rock musician. Now, I'm a graphic/web designer.

  • Go to flickr.com and look here for updated photos, now that the house is almost finished: william_chapman/sets/72157621625040547

  • Sorry, the best way to find it is:

go to flicr.com, under PEOPLE, type in 'shootingangles'

that will take you to our area, then select 'The Quonset (aka home)'

  • What's your occupation? I'm on the way to school to sign up for what ever that may be.

  • Im curious if there were design plans for the inside or if this was more of a build as you go type construction. Also how much square footage did you end up with and with what size building? Lastly after seeing it completed is there anything you would change if you went back? certain room sizes etc?

  • Very inspiring! Thank you for sharing.

  • I can only dream of having a house this magnificent! What does it cost on average to put one up say maybe with 4-5000 sqr ft of living space?

  • My brother built one in Vermont, still living in it 25 years later. It's a great space with lofts at both ends. Wish I had one of my own!

  • very cool....very inspiring...thanks for sharing...!

  • Fabulous!

  • I've admired your home on Tribe & would like to do something similar one day. Did you use E-84 fire-rated urethane foam, since you didn't drywall the inside?

  • would love to see this with the audio if reposted someday. great looking place!!

  • Neat!

    Any leaks?

Does the spray in insulation seem like enough.

I'm considering doing the same thing to Oregon code and it would require 4" of spray in all places. And it rains a lot here.

    Thanks

  • It rains A LOT here too. This has proven to be a great building choice. The spray insulation is expensive but worth every penny - quick, light, and a very good insulator (we heat with wood and it can get pretty cold here - yet hot in the summer months)

    Hope that helps

    w

  • out of curiosity, what part of Oregon do you live, we live in Grants Pass

btw I HATE YOU WMG, YOU SUCK

  • Portland-ish. Very tough building/energy codes here in Oregon now, but I bet something like this project could be done here.

Ditto on the WMG thing and any other RIA label.

  • yeah, I would LOVE to be able to build something this great using the quonset style.

  • sweet job my wife and i did one in fl for my cars the house is next you know priorities first ,just wanted to thank you for some of your idea's scott-n-izzy in fl.

  • Love the video!

We have constructed a work shop from what I believe to be the same company. I was hoping to see a bit more in the way of pictures as to how you did the insulation. Is there any chance that you've posted more so I can see and learn. We would love to have a Q-home of our own as well!

    Thank you! Lars

  • nice work

and yes it is alot of _hard_ work

    what did it take you ? 18 - 24 months ?

nice to get a result though right

give yourselves a pat on the back . and maybe a big holiday to recover from the effort :)

  • 1:00 thats one way to get rid of those pesky deer!

  • Very impressive. Reminds me of my building days when I was younger - 30 years ago. Wish I could've joined you for the adventure. Hope you have a lot of fun with your new place!

  • Beautiful home!

  • My wife and I have been contemplating a variety of different building types and have recently been considering Quonset options. After seeing your beautiful creation we are inspired. Thank you both for sharing!

The purification was great too ;-)

Can you let me know who you dealt with for your home and any suggestions?

  • Please call if you want some info on our project/progress.

    All the best,
