  • Brilliant tune, so so good. I'm only 23 myself but am addicted to all sorts of EDM, and the history, DJ and producers that made it all happen and how music progressed. This is awesome everytime I hear it, it's got more feeling than the new stuff.

I'm just a bit confused about all the comments, wanting some clarification, is this the Original that Jamie recorded in his bedroom/basement on a tape or is this the first version that was remixed and released by Frankie?

  • @GcTheHardstyler If you have not seen them already check out: "Pump Up The Volume - Part 1 - The History Of House Music". 3 part series. And: "Video explains the world's most important 6-sec drum loop." Could not paste the url here for some reason.

  • Always was great 'rare' stuff. Ty for sharing.

  • This is BAAAAADD!! I have heard a lot of music, and try to listen to just about everything, and this just kills me. Something about this early house music that gets you on a different level from everything else that's out there. Wish we could go back.

  • take a big deep breath .......then let it go

  • By faaaaaaar the best version in its original release.

  • this is the song that mad me house for all my years at morgan park i did not feel less than anyone!

  • I was just hanging out with jamie for the first time yesterday at the silver rooms block party and hes really a cool guy

  • Thanks ! I was looking for this, and I am so glad I found it ! Frankie Knuckles did a good job with the remix, but this version stands on it's own.

  • this should have millions of plays.

  • Thanks Chicagowax this is my baby here!

  • SUMMER OF LOVE best house track ever made .

  • excellent " Playground days Chicago",

  • house music history right here people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW . is all I can say . I am at a loss for words .

  • Oh wait never mind....just checked the side of the screen. Looks like that has already been taken care of . Jesus Christ what's next? Acid Trax?

  • Hmm I wonder how long it will take the Indie kids and hipsters to rape and exploit this House classic as well. They've already butchered "You've got the Love".

  • @Xozona Considering it's been 26 years after the fact and they still don't notice it I highly doubt it'll be ruined. :)

  • Just A lil History,This is not the Original "Your Love" This was actually a Remix because Persona Records wanted a more commercialize version, which Frankie & I disagree with them on. i'll be explaining the TRUTH N my upcoming Interview With Czarina for 5magazine.

  • @lilgirlpro I agree with you that the original version is much better, it has originality, this remix does sound commercial and loses originality

  • wow! awesome! music was best in world in chicago during 1980s, now i can see why, these tunes are more popular than ever today. Back to old skool tunes, back to basics, music from 2000's lost its way

  • I prefer this version .

  • This is the original WAX version... this is not the original club version of this track. This the commercialized version

  • such an amazing track. Just listening to it makes you feel like experiencing some deep spiritual shit, Chicago style!

  • I totally forgot what this version sounded like. I remember buying the pirated (stolen taped copy released by frankie thinking it was the original). Little did I know, a couple of yrs later in 85 I ran into Jaime Principle when we were both bank messengers wrkng in downtown Chicago that my 12" wasn't a jaime original. At that time he was going back and forth btwn NYC & Chi bcause he was talking with Atlantic about what single to release off of Midnight Hr aftr he came out with rebel 84.

  • still great track

  • Still The Best Version EVER !

  • fuck Florence and the machine

  • I like the version Frankie released better. The later version sounds deeper, to me anyway.

  • thank you so much for posting this - it's my new addiction

  • just bought a still sealed 1986 US copy of this paid £40 for it think i will keep it sealed as this was such an important record in history i have the frankie knuckles version anyway

  • Still blows me away !!!!

  • ULTIMATE ALWAYS ALWAYS

  • Yes True true !

  • 82 or 83 way ahead of its time, 5 more years before we heard this in england..

    respect to you chicago boys

  • possibly first played in the UK by Yogi Haughton!!!

  • Great version :)

  • Okay, it was the south side of Chicago, maybe near 95th and King Drive. We are in a basement party on a cold winter night. The music is playing through a "ghetto blaster" and on it is this grove... boom boom ba-DOOM-DOOM;...boom boom ba-doom-doom;...boom boom ba-DOOM-DOOM the coldest home-made track I had ever heard. Was it winter '83 or winter '82, I am not sure but I waited 4 years to buy that track, looking, waiting. Yes I was one of the first to hear it played.

  • @TheDJcrazyB

Oh, and by the way, that would have been a cassette tape playing back then.

  • @TheDJcrazyB

And finally I do not remember all that synth at the end.

  • best love song ever

  • great song

  • beautiful classic and a must for every lover of electronic music

  • I found out that the original of these bass synths are from Electra Feat Tara Butler - Feels Good (Dub) (1982)

Listen, and you'll witness it ;)

  • i think you'll find that all these bass synth sounds originate form the use of the yamaha DX7, a piece of equipment used to death in the 80s as it was the first commercially popular synthsizer. Principle recorded this track using a 4-track recorder, what i'm assuming is a DX7 and his own live drum playing. Sorry if i sound like a complete freak, but i'm doing an essay on the 1991 version of you got the love and have found this all out on my little research stint!

  • Your arguments sound good, but you have to admit it's the same rhythm and note intervals from Electra, right? So it's not only a question of synth timber - it's a question of sampling. Or, the author repeated the same lines with the same synth..........

  • History tells a tale that Jamie Principle recorded this song in 1983 and Frankie "borrowed" it in 1987.

  • Is this Adrienne Jet singing background. If so, whatever is she doing now?

  • isn't this freddie knuckles?

  • @ANGELO13111

first off... the answer to your question is no

2: the person you are refering to is FRANKIE knuckles

    jeez.....

  • yea i always confuse freddie and frankie my mistake. frankie did make this song. did you ever see history of house music?!

  • i own it... and it was jamie and frankie together

  • wow. he never said anything about jamie.

  • i believe he did

  • not in the interview i seen

  • @ANGELO13111 correction.... it was jamie & frankie

  • i know frankie made it but where does jamie come in?

  • @ANGELO13111 Jamie made it in his basement, alone, Frankie spreaded it to the world and presented it. So it is Jamie who should get the credits

  • yea i know that now. he also grew up in a strict family and if he didnt have a girlfriend most of his song wouldn't exist.

  • noooo.,...who is FREDDIE knuckles?

  • This tune has signed a before and an after in house's history

  • Defo the best version of this song. (no disrespect frankie, luvved urs aswell) Way way ahead of its time this song. Such a beautifull sound. Many thanks for the upload fella. As soon as we make a time machine i know were im going first. See u all there people!! Stay Happy Ravers. = )

  • OH JAMIE!!!! RIGHTEOUS!!!!

  • Beautiful

  • Check out the original Feels Good (Carrots & Beets) (by Electra featuring Tara Butler) that was used to create the bass line

  • There is defo influence there but not an exact lift. Excellent track tho. Thanks for the info.

  • Principle of house music. Redde Caesari quae sunt Caesaris.

  • .omfffg.. ODE !!

  • What more can I add... a true monimental piece of music, timeless and hypnotic beauty. As far as 'versions' go I'm happy to listen to either, I guess I know the Knuckles version better as it was the first version I heard, but this original is mind-blowing.

  • totally agree, both = tune :)

  • Well, it IS important to compare the two versions because the Knuckle's version on Trax records is really not much different but does not give any credit to Jamie with writing the thing! Poor Jamie was shat on several times by people in the business. Knuckles is a technically purer sound, but this is the original, a real raw sound.

  • I say both tracks are very good. I like the drums better on the Knuckles version, and I understand house, so, yea. It's the truth, I'm right, and that's it.

  • lol

  • love it . . need to download it, i wish i was alive for this and i wish i had this on vinyl or cd.

  • Top Man for putting this up Chicagowax, most don't realise about the original that is Jamie Priciple.

  • They both R hot, I think Jamie's is more gritier, and has that organic Chicago sound.

  • regardless of which is better version, the BASSLINE IS TRULY A CLASSIC!!

    timeless..............

  • on my opinion i think the frankie knuckles version is better

  • what a stupid comment who cares you think knuckles is better !! So what !! this is the original , without this knuckles version not be done so appreciate this !!!! this is the most important HOUSE TRACK EVER ...

  • yes i am aware... it is the best house track ever made, i am just saying that i think the frankie knuckles version is better that's all... why is it stupid?

  • listen, Frankie knuckles would tell you not to compare and respect this version, its just simply a no go , if you dont understand you dont understand house music

  • this is the best version. it is a brilliant track

  • it's cute because it was originally jamie's song anyway, it's the same and sounds the same. Frankie Apologized to Jamie for not crediting him for the song. All is cool!

  • yeah, this is a more raw gutter version than frankies and as mr. burns would say 'excellent'

  • So is this supposed to be the beginning of house music?

  • i recorded in chicago in 95 i met jamie,a real nice bloke.

  • Hey thanks for putting this on here. This is my favorite. I always use this as a test for someone that says they are from Chicago. I play this song and watch their reaction. If they don't say 'HEY!!!!' then they fail the test.

  • paradise garage and larry levan for ever

  • has anybody noticed the timelength of this video? 9:09 Brilliant!

  • Fantastic.. I always wondered what the jamie principle version was like I wasnt expecting it to be so similar to the Knuckles version. Classic track on so many levels. Thankyou for posting

  • I was just watching the documentary "The History of House Music", and just had to find the original un released version of this track!

Thanks a lot for uploading it!

  • You are welcome...this is my favourite mix...tho not too disimilar to the Knuckles Version

  • @Chicagowax excellent upload :)

  • the original and the best version, before knuckles got his mitts on it, KEEP THE FAITH !

  • Agreed....an "original" is rarely bettered!

  • Thanks for the upload. Bizarrely I have never heard this version before. It's only slightly different to the Knuckles release though, but I prefer this.

  • You are welocome...it's nice to hear a track you haven't heard before...I have heard more hear on Youtube that have ended up on my wantslist than ever before.
