  • There's a lady at 9:35 that talks about having difficulty accepting the lack of an afterlife. I think this is pretty dumb. This is because believing in an afterlife, while perhaps a bit hopeful/naive/whatever (haven't found the best descriptor), isn't really a problem. One could maybe consider the belief in an afterlife to be a religion, but without a god it would still be an atheist religion. Believe in afterlife if that's what makes you comfortable. Personally I don't need it.

  • @victoriamaendel All I'm saying is science is Satan's tool...and by tool, I mean 'penis.'

  • The only morality atheists care about is how much butt sex is too much butt sex. You book readers just dont get it. Sceince = ButtSex. The more sceince you reed, the more butt sex you will have with each other. And believe me, the devil will be giving you the biggest butt sex of all when you all die. Butt sex!

  • When religious people ask me the "without god, what stops you from just going around raping and murdering" question

I usually reply by asking "are you saying that if the bible condoned raping and murdering you would go around raping and murdering?"

  • That either shuts them up, or leads to a conversation about how the bible says slaves should be treated.

"So when the bible says you can only keep your slaves for six years and let them go on the seventh... do you think you should keep the slave till the last min. or do you think you should own them then after six years and one day, let them have a bit of freedom the first month and a bit more the second, ect."

    Something to that effect....

  • It's really great to hear atheists speaking-freely. Religious answers just piss me off and make me think the person isn't really thinking.

  • Great video. Love it!

  • Good video. In my opinion, morality shouldn't be thought of as an inflexible set of rules, rather it's simply a strategy for living and cooperating with one another.

  • You misspelled 'atheists' and 'believe' in your description.

  • Good catch, @spacep0d. I'll see if Scott can correct that.

  • @roydraken :)

  • @spacep0d Fixed! Thanks for catching it.

  • i usually respond with "i treat others nicely because i want others to treat me nicely, not because i'm being watched by your imaginary friend in the clouds."

-that iranian chick, gelareh, is kinda hot.

  • Great video and I shared it on my facebook page.

  • I'm an atheist myself, but I always facepalm when someone comes with that inane crap about good people doing good things and bad people doing bad things, it's bullshit, because there are no good people.

Humans are hierarchical pack animals hardwired to be nice to their pack and hostile to anyone else. And anything else is a thin veneer of civilization that melts away in a heartbeat when shit gets real.

If you want to use the childish good and evil as terms, humans are far more evil then good.

  • @TheSkunkCat

As for religion though, it's for dumb overtly emotional people. Those will always think in magic, to think they can do better is to overestimate them.

Which is to say, they CAN do better, but really not MUCH better. Turning them into less of assholes is a worthy pursuit, but 'less of an asshole' is as far as those people go. You can't ask them to be rational more then you can ask a chimp. But actually chimps are still nicer then most dumb people.

    Dumb = Hostile Bigot usually.

  • @TheSkunkCat If you want to think of yourself as a mere animal, then that’s what you are. The “thin veneer of civilization” is what protects us humans from those who think the rest of us are mere animals.

When shit gets real, both good and evil show their true colors. Yes, some people will look out for number one first and foremost, but many will go out of their way to help strangers, because even strangers are part of their “pack”: humankind.

  • Big thumbs up on this one. No longer fearing punishment. Guilty over nothing more than being fallible and being human. Depressed wondering if I was good enough. Confused why a loving god would allow suffering if he could stop it. I was told I would end up a drowning in my own vomit in the gutter if I stopped worshipping. Cruel threats. Instead, I became more loving, more forgiving and more understanding. I'm "good" because I love people and want to be an asset to society - all without a god.

  • Very well done. Videos like this keep me going.

  • good video though just feel it doesn't suit the title.

  • would have been nice to hear more "i statements" pertaining to their beleifs i counted 5. I also counted4 people just said I am moral with no back up material. a couple people said they had ethics. the overwhelming theme here though seems to betalk about religeous baggage where i counted 10 people talked about and how religeon makes people afraid that was about 6/7 people and various people just stated there is no god.

  • Well done you guys. Great video.

  • Simplist Explaination, we all live here on this planet with this brief existance. The best way to make the best of our lives is to work together. The best way to work together is be....good - shocking isn't it?

  • Amen... LOL JK

    ... but seriously.

  • atheists **

  • We need videos like these. I'm tired of the "what stops you from running around raping everything"? mantra. Good on you folks for putting this together.

  • @OCDninja11 The way I typically handle that kind of nonsense logic is by asking, "And what's stopping you?" We non believers do not need the threat of eternal punishment to know certain acts against humanity are wrong, which leaves me to ask, "If there was no threat of eternal damnation, what's keeping you from 'running around raping everything?'"

  • @OCDninja11 Sometimes I am scared that the people who ask that question would really just do that if they didn't have their religion.

  • I wish there were more militant antitheists..

  • @M3t4lManiac If this is militancy, sign me up (again).
