@ckpeltomaa no, asian carp have very little eating value... actually they have almost no value at all. they destroy rivers and local fish populations, just take a look at the illinois river near where i live, they've taken over the river completely.
the only thing they're good for is bowfishing, which is really fun.
@MunicipalMeep you are very very wrong ,, this breed of asian carp is call large head fish in asian country , the meat is better taste then trout and salmon .. this is reason why they cost more then salmon and trout in china .. very taste fish .. if people can market this fish in right market it can be an resource.. you dont have to believe me .. catch one and taste the meat .. you will see the difference ..
@superwhiz88 i believe i was talking about "asian carp", much different from the common carp/koi shown in the video, which is the carp you are talking about. they do taste good, but i would not prefer them to salmon or trout. "asian carp" are bighead or silver carp. this carp is a probably common carp... bighead and silver carp taste like shit unless fried and are trying to kill everything the midwestern united states.
@superwhiz88 actutally i take that back. upon further examination this looks like a bighead carp with a skin pigmentation problem. They DO taste like shit. and given the opportunity i would kill every single one of them on the planet.
common carp which i mentioned earlier are alright eating, and not as destructive.
that looks to me to be an iridescent shark which is actually a chinese catfish. or a close relative (genus name is pangasius) they get quite large some members of the genus reaching 600lbs+!! i say it probably is either an iridescent or a paroon shark. the color comes from being amelanistic which is uncommon in the wild bred for in captivity. my guess is it was someones pet that got too big for them and was released. seems to be doing well!
albino big head carp, i think, atleast from the fishing knowledge I have from studying at harvard fishing academy for about 5 years, its a very prestigious fishing university where I have learnt many thingsss
Looks like an Albino Pacu to me. They are commonly caught here In Florida & Can live in colder water, also they grow extremely fast & are available there. (My Brother in law Runs the Pet Store in Maysville Ky)
If it is scaleless and if it was a catfish then It would fall into the species of shark catfish (The Pangasiidae family to be specific). However, having said that it seems to have scales and the fins are off. Meaning It's an Asian Carp. So in short that fish is probably an asian carp just different variation in color which is normal. So to make it simple carp what type dunno but from the carp family. My personal guess is it's an asian carp.
This fish may be shaped like a catfish like some ppl seem to think it is, but catfish don't have scales, and this thing does. Goldfish are a type of carp -- so this thing might not be the goldfish you're used to seeing in your fishbowl, gut it could easily be one of the goldfish sold in pet shops as a "feeder" variety.
it's a carp, not a catfish, not a goldfish, probably an asian carp specifically, with a color mutation. still cool as hell, but definitely not a goldfish, put it back so you can have more fancy carp
@HU4LjDog Nope... not even close. That's an imported Asian big-head carp. They were used to clear the algae out of catfish tanks and ended up getting introduced into the Mississippi river system after the floods in the 1990's. They've been growing out of control ever since then.
Oddly enough, they are over fished and in somewhat short natural supply in china where they originally come from.
nice catch yesterday i went fishing im 12 and i caught an 18in bass first cast then 2nd cast i caught a 15in and we got a mess of blue gill good eatin
Ok I got some attention on this fish . Now what kind is it for sure ? I don't have a clue for the only fish I have ever caught was with a net and I brought it home in a little clear bag ;D
It may not be a goldfish by species, but all carp are very closely related to goldfish. So, with that color phase, I would say this bighead could still technically be called a goldfish.
I tried posting a link but youtube won't let me. Just google 'bighead carp' and you'll find many examples. They're identical, minus the color. This one here has an obvious color mutation.
@jcardona1 Ok I will . There is a bunch of us that would like to know for sure what this is. I was told that it was a family pet goldfish that was turned loose in the lake. The owners had raised goldfish till they was so huge then they would turn them loose in this lake. Thanks
Gold Fish are in the same family as Carp . Pine Lake is in Lewis County , Kentucky in a small town called Garrison.. if you get to trip down there let me know what you think.. I have a small blog on it but I aint that good at this stuff. The Officals do not know for sure what this fish is ! Type in Eastern Kentucky Biggest Gold Fish and read the blog. I put a google map on there to show ppl where the LAKE is. I just want to know what it is without harming the fish.
That is not a Goldfish. That is one of thoseCarp specifically a Big Head Carp. The Color Phase is unique, but if you look at the eyes and the placement on the head you will see that it is a Big Head Carp. ALSO where is PINE Lake in KY? I know of a Pine Mountain State Park with a lake...
@jimd072 Maybe you can check it out in person and let us know for sure what it is. I have looked all over the internet and have not found anything that looks just like it. Maybe you have a link to where I can view one that Looks the same.
Merle "Plut" Horsley of Garrison caught this 65 pound, 49 Inch Long Goldfish from Pine Lake, Monday afternoon. Horsley and his grandson, Namron, were fishing with minnows.
It took more than two hours to land the catch of a lifetime using 12 pound test line. Yes 12 pound Test line .
