@jeffhardy1543 In 1936 they could. People weren't mute back in the day, and they certainly were not all black and white. But silent films rely more on non-verbal speech through actions, and as seen here, comic actions.

I think I first saw this movie when I was 8 and I loved every minute of it. I almost died laughing at the feeding machine scene. It still is one of my all time favourite movies.

@fnorgen I totally agree. I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was 5. Even now, 20 years later and being a filmmaker, I still cannot remember a time when I laughed so hard as I did at that scene.
