  • Methanol is naturally produced in shine. You gotta be careful when you're proofing it not to get any in it. People don't cut it with Methanol. They cut it with stupid shit like bleach.

  • @SuperHansenk No, they used to cut it with methanol on purpose. They would get lead poisoning by using radiators for condensers as well. Only the first few ounces of a grain based wash is methanol. Reason being, methanol burns off at a lower temperature than ethanol, so naturally, if you have any corn husk or grain shell in your mash you're going to produce a tiny bit of methanol. Never heard of ANYBODY cutting shine with bleach. That's just bad for business.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller now a days, some people sell it with a quarter of it being bleach. It tastes more potent and looks clear and wont freeze so it seems just like regular stuff. It's not the people making it or the regular sellers, it's the stupid sellers looking to make more money trying to stretch it out and sell it to people who don't know what they're doing. unfortunately it's true :(

  • @skitzopsychobabble Thank you for the information. I need to look into that.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller his info probably be from that tv show now on called moonshiners the informant said that some of them be cutting it with bleach but if you know your shine you can smell the bleach from the right cut stuff

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller you would think they would want repeat customers no? and a quarter liter of bleach will kill you

  • @skitzopsychobabble it wont freeze anyway if someone was to put it in a freezer to keep it cold. the temperature at which ethanol becomes a liquid is about -173F...if your freezer gets that cold...i'd call a maintenance man to check that out

  • @SuperHansenk it's best not to use shows like Moonshiners as your source of hard facts. every "fact" i've seen on that show is either inaccurate or just plain false.

  • @SuperHansenk: Technically you're wrong, methanol isn't produced in shine. It's produced in the shining process, but it's removed before it ever becomes shine.

  • Got damn what song starts to play on 6:50? That is some beautiful picking on that guitar.

  • @PeculiarTactics That sounds like some carter family pickin, wildwood flower I believe.. I'm 25 dang I was born in the wrong time..

  • Popcorn Sutton - The Most Interesting Man in the World

    RIP Mr. Sutton

  • An ole friend b4 he died had a bad muddy road 2 his barn. He stuck his 4x4 f250. went back 2 the house and drove his ole A model to the barn through the mud and around the burried truck.Like it was nothin I wish they still made these awesome ole cars.

  • I cant believe this guy was only 61, looks like crap. I guess smokin butts constantly and drinking moonshine and eating once a day will do that to you. My father is 6 yrs older and looks 25 yrs younger, no exageration. Love the old timey ways tho. Now most ppl bootleg the herb, more money to be made, less work. Its the biggest cash crop of tenn and kentucky as of recent yrs

  • @wakeoftheflood2 Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton (October 5, 1946 – March 16, 2009)

He was 53, not 61, and his appearance is common with hard 'likker' abusers.

  • @samljer **** TYPO, meant to put 63 ****

  • @samljer How do you get 53? 2008 - 1946= 62.

  • ahhh nc

  • wv? tn?

  • aint nothin in it but pure bear shit. hahaha wtf

  • shit...getting drunk is a lotta work but I had no idea that there was THIS much hard work even before I have to try to chug it down

  • What were their names? Tell me, what were their names? Did you have a friend on that good Reuben James?

  • that old man s just truckin thru those woods

  • In my opinion, This country is way overrdue for a major revolution, when you fear the govt, that is tyranny,WE THE PPL have stood by for 2 damn long and let govt tyrants terrorize us,aint nothing wrong with making liqour,or growing and smoking weed,Govt dont have the right to tell us ,what we put in our bodies, and if you think the govt does have that right you are wrong, aint no election gonna fix this fading republic, only a major revolution , the answer to 1984 is 1776

  • popcorn was smart as hell to figure out how all that stuff goes together and make it work and to figure out the stuff he did and damn man was a legdend and i never got to try his shine but damn sure would have loved to

  • making moonshine aint illegal, sellin it is.

  • @joshhofstad1 You're wrong. TAXES. Homemade liquor is impossible for Big Brother to tax. Liquor is worth more to the government than beer or wine. Uncle Sam takes an excise tax of $2.14 for each 750-milliliter bottle of 80-proof spirits, compared with 21 cents for a bottle of wine (of 14 percent alcohol or less) and 5 cents for a can of beer. The law states that you CANNOT distill spirits at home without a license from ATF and it can ONLY be used as fuel.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller yea but we do it neway lol

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller

Just like the dummies here in California who wanted Prop 19 to pass so government could control the tax, regulation, and distribution of a plant like cannabis. Whatever government can't profit from, they want to outlaw. Representation my ass!

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller He's not at home. Deal with it.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller 100% correct.

There are still people distilling, but not like this man.

I just read a whole thing on him, he committed suicide to avoid going to prison and it says he was only 62 years old. He looked a-lot older than that, but regardless, loved the mans mannerisms. Didn't think hillbillys like this ever really existed in today's times, but I guess they do.

  • I would play many free gig's just to have this dvd and as a tribute to this man, Grizzled to the bone.

  • the problem is so much of it is poison now. people are cuttin it and try to stretch it out and instead of good shine it turns into poison and people get hurt. it's chickenshit like that, that messes up good moonshiners...

  • @partsman26able I've never heard of people cutting it with methanol these days. We all know what happens when people do that. In the OLD days, sure. They didn't have the science to know any better.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller when i was a kid the local law enforcement would turn a blind eye to most 'shiners, but then the tell-tale signs came out someone was making poison. they could no longer ignore it because good people were getting hurt. all i know is i'm pretty sure some good old fashioned country justice took place and everything was good again. still, if a jar of shine costs you 5 bucks for a half gallon, guess what? it's probably no good.

  • @partsman26able ethanol is not poisonous dumb ass.. -.- methanol is

  • @partsman26able: Why would people cut it and stretch it now? Simple: they don't.

The majority of those occurrences was during prohibition. Moonshine isn't nearly a lucrative enough business anymore to justify cutting it.

  • hey thank you for the invitation we love popcorn sutton and u for feeding him

  • god damn popcorn sutton true hardworking american god bless man where ever you are

  • @spikybrat poor guy ended up getting charged with making moonshine, and instead of dying in prison he killed his self

  • "That water's so pure ain't nuttin' it but bar' shit" That's a true Mountainman. In my younger days I used to camp in woods like this Copperheads cotton mouths rattleler's coral snakes mosquitos big enough to carry away a small dog.Damn what was I thinking?LOL

  • Theres plenty of work involved in it thats forsure. So much it should be legal because noone is going to do this anymore. Sure you got your southerners that will keep it going here and there but for the most part noone is going to try and go out and do this never having done it before. There is no chance for this to continue on into an epidemic of drunks. Not gonna happen. Its not a big problem not worth the effort of banning it. It should be considered apart of our culture. Why isn't it?

  • @67DieHardPatriot454 Because the government can't tax it. Anything the government can't tax is illegal, with the exception of beer and wine. There was a guy here in Florida a few weeks back that was making shine in his front yard. 15,000.00 fine and he faces 5 years in prison max. if convicted. First offense.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller What was the outcome of that 'FLA 'shine' case?

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller Damn you just scared me.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller What a dumbass. He was asking for it. I can still get it from my brother in laws uncle, but i dont know for how much longer. He's 80 years old and in failing health. Like Popcorn,he takes pride in his likker. Local law enforcement allows him to do it.All they told him was don't advertise it and keep it small scale.

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing man!
