  • Sorry, but you should have kept the original military drums seque into the song...just my opinion

  • That's sad.

  • My wife's grandfather's unit was shooting at my fathers unit in Korea

  • this is not vietnam, so jerk keeps on telling me, look t the uniforms, and weapons, damit we had the same uniforms here in Norway all the way up to the 90s.

  • i'm a captain on the sea of heartbreak..

  • I remember this war, I was there 1952 to 1954. I lost a lot of good friends in Korea.

  • music is on a slow star be patient

  • You should have kept the audio during the intro. Thanks for posting this version though.

  • Yep ...he has that... plus he is scared shitless.... if u look close he has a fixed bayonet the only time they gave the order to fix bayonets... was when there was going to be some up close and personal stuff...bad guys were close by...real close

    adios .....friend....peace

  • i think this is jimmy buffett

  • @jamebw no its don gibson

  • 400,000 Chiniese KIA almost 500,000 Wounded I think they'll think long and hard before helping North Korea again

  • a wonderful movie...music is magnificent...

  • My uncle served in WWII, Korea he came home but was never the same but he served in the military for over 20 years his name was Arthur McJunkin.

  • I was in korea (Pohang area) attached to CSSD-32 (USMC) during "Team Spirit 82". We dug fighting holes due to an "issue" and down the line someone dug up the remains of an M-1 Garand clearly branded with USMC on the stock. I have always wondered and prayed about the owner since.

  • this song speaks to me more everytime i hear it its funny a couple years in theater clears things up some one toss me a beer

  • NICE

  • My great uncle was killed in Korea was an "old war horse" served throughout World War II fought in the Pacific and died in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Div. Being a soldier was the only thing he knew how to do, Never forget the sacrifice given by these brave men Korea may be the forgotten war, but it's not forgotten by families who fought and lost family during the war.

  • The importense in stoping comunism.

  • 5 stars

  • this year we are poor country and now we re stand they help us. we are 18th in the world

  • @auhyg62 What country?

  • As great as this song is, it was not written by Don. Paul Hampton and Hal David wrote the song. Hal David has written some of the best lyrics of all time, especially when paired with Burt Bacharach.

  • This is the original hit record by Don Gibson from around 1960. The version used in the film is also Don Gibson, probably re-made in the 70's. A lot of artists were re-making their hits for re-release and play on oldies radio.

  • This is Great. better than the original! My only regret is that this is the start to the American "anti-communism" campaign movement which cost too many American lives,,,,Korea, Vietnam, Cold War....too much "death in vein". But all that does not exempt the sense of duty displayed here....this footage is REAL!

  • Hey, does anyone know who sings this version of the song. Its class! Love the Banjo in it. My Uncle Ronald's Favorite song RIP

  • I'm fairly certain that both versions are by Don Gibson.

  • @stuman06 The movie credits show it as Don Gibson. I watch this movie everyday, lol. Clint Eastwood reminds me of a spit'n image of my grandfather, God rest his soul. I was a 14 year Marine, my grandfather was a 25 year Marine and my father was Marine also. My grandfather was also on the infamous Island Hopping Campaign during WWII. He passed in 95. Miss ya "Pappa"!!

  • THE GREATEST ARMY SONG EVER

  • what is the drums playing at the start?

  • the drums are militaristic drum beats meant to evoke thoughts of marching and the military it was kept from the movie!

  • music starts at 0:52

  • i'd like to dedicate this song to our soldiers overseas and our military personnel stateside. keep doing what you have to. :)

  • It isnt like that anymore.. That was when men were men..

    -coming from an 11bangbang

  • your right. cuz nowadays the men stay home while the young fight wars.

    --coming from an 0311.

  • The GI in 1.58 has a serious 1000 yard stare.

  • shit yes even i can see that and im not even a marine, is it true you get the 1000ys after beeing in combat for more than 1 week?

  • the Stare is a result of stress, hunger and lack of sleep. When you're in a combat inviroment you havn't got any means of relaxing, everything is about the next objective. So after a while, everything turns into a blur, and you get the 1000 yard stare.

  • Along with Full metal jacket , this movie influenced me to join up.

  • I'll never forget the Korean war vet with tears in his eyes talking about "the forgotten war". He said "Nobody who fought in that war will ever forget it." That was as nasty of a war as there ever was.

  • Brad...I used your comments in my Heartbreak Final "tribute" check it out!

  • OK man, thanks, I am glad to help.

  • @Vinnie2x08 That was a bloody rotten war.56,000 died in 3 years when in the Vietnam conflict there was a little over 58,000 in 10 years.

  • Sadly, this is the best part of the movie.

  • Bite your tongue...albeit not the greatest war moving going, were talking clint eastwood here. Get a life ;)

  • I agree. It's almost like false advertisment. I remember seeing that movie a long time ago. With the name and the opening credits you thought it would be a hell of a movie. Only to be left with this empty "what the fuck feeling" shortly after the opening credits ended.

  • Yeah, not a bad story but the battle scenes and some of the acting were shitty

  • It did have some good one liners. The best one was the part where Eastwood is in the jail and got into a fight with that big bald guy lol.

  • Real good classic, the Korean war footage is real and not staged in any way. The movie "Heartbreak Ridge" begins with this footage and song. Too many good people lost in combat in the most horrible way. The song is a easy listening country song that you perhaps wouldn't relate it to war. In my days I was a scared kid at full battle gear on my back trudging through the desert jamming to "I've got the power". Did'nt have nothing but I knew there was a bullet out there with my name on it. Wars HELL

  • I understand what you mean...but the lyrics are anything but easy listening, granted not a fire up your pulse and adrenaline song, but the "LOSS" in the song, and the feeling of being "LOST" by the soldiers is ultimately what WAR boils down to.

A timeless classic, it will endure as long as war itself.

  • I like it good job.

  • Decent video. I like the original better. and I've been to the battlefield. Never saw you there

  • Like the original better? I finally have a copy of the original and I'll post it. No comparison, I should almost call Clint and get him to change the beginning to mine ;) It's a bit rough...I made it in one take...just the Big man himself...mostly 1 take will do in his movies.

Anyways what I meant to say 1st was the battlefield refers to the Virtual Battlefield...alot of controversy over war video games lately. Never forget our real fallen hero's!!! AMEN

  • I prefer the version the movie used, the female vocals sound too happy considering all of the pictures in the backround!

  • the origional one was on here until a couple of months ago until it was removed due to copyright reasons! real pity

  • This is the hit 'pop' version isn't it - with the more C&W instrumentation - the Pedal Steel for instance - removed.

I have to say, I prefer the 'original'.

    But thanks anyway. :-)

  • take this fucking shit off; play the beginning of the movie the way it was made. damn!

  • agreed!!

  • In case any of you were wondering, the song doesn't actually start until 1/4 way through the video. Thanks for all your comments, It's interesting to hear that some people like the original better. Myself I cannot see how that is possible; especially when you consider the vocals and how they compliment (if you will) the real war footage. Thanks!

    Vin2x

  • Comment removed

  • just the song in general though is still good and hits that spot..

  • i think it would be better if you made a video, same footage but the original song and audio as the movie.

  • best part of movie!!!!!

  • This was the best part of the whole movie!

  • I totally agree with you, Davout204! Made me want to hear the song many more times. Movie, NOT!

  • Great song love it!!.

  • Kick-ass! Don Gibson rules. Kick-ass song Man!

  • very good. cool version of the song.

  • fuck you the song in the movie was better

  • the chicoms would never have attacked if they did'nt have the atomic bomb which was given to them by jew spys working at los alamos. How many more red state white boys must die for this bullshit.

  • Oh, go get stuffed, you pathetic jerk.

  • love the war footage. this song fits well with it.

  • Everett McGill plays a bad guy very well.McGill was in Under Seige 2 as well and of course he was an a-hole

  • Nice Job ! Great version of the song. PEACE !!!!

  • Who sings this version.

  • Don Gibson.

  • This version is Don Gibson as well, he must have created two versions.

  • More like three. Theres a version with just a guitar, drums, and male vocals instead of female vocals in the chorus

But yeah, I prefer the picker version.

  • Like the original but this one was even better. Nice work Vin!

  • Great song, great movie too, never miss an oppurtunity to watch it when its on t.v

  • How could you replace the orginial with this sorry ass version???

  • You have put the new version. In Clint Eastwood movie listen the first version of Sea of Heartbreak, played by Gibson in 1961.

  • You are put the new version. In Clint Eastwood movie listen the first version of Sea of Heartbreak, played by Gibson in 1961.

  • Rest in peace all the patriots who gave their lives for their countries

  • This song in the opening credits of "Heartbreak Ridge" along with the powerful war footage of the Korean War, made this otherwise forgettable film memorable.

    Thanks for posting this...great song.

  • I dont know if I'd say H.R. was forgettable Patty, but this actual footage couple with this song made the movie, no doubt about that as far as I'm concerned. Rest of the movie, while not awful; kinda pedestrain, nothing to write home about...perhaps forgettable after all.

  • You have to admit, though, Eastwoods' Gunny Highway kept you watching. one of the best parts is when the Major is dressing Highway down then sees the brick of ribbons/ medals and is totally humbled.....

  • Maybe you should think about the poor people filmed in what you are showing. Don Gibson's song is a credit to him and the nasty backing vocals well. War is not glorious and the same for the right to bare arms.

  • It is a tribue to the men and women and the suffering they endured you putz. Read my comments, "Lest we forget" means lets not forget what they sacrificed.

  • WTF are you talking about?

    1) Marines are volunteers.

    2) It's BEAR arms, and if you want to attempt to take my 2nd Ammendent rights away from me........come try.

Has the most powerful empire on earth became a peacenik commune or what? (British Empire)

This is a Korean war tribute video.......we love our Korean war vets........and like to say thank you.

If you cannot say anything nice, dont say anything at all.

  • Britain is still a reasonably powerful nation yet, ther empire has definetly been weakened over the years but all empires end up the same way, especially in the modern world as most people want ther independence, they still have there strategic interests overseas covered though.

  • Amen brother.... if they come for the guns they're gonna get the bullets first... but not the way they want them.

  • the heartbreak ridge is actually a name from a real war. the korean I think. look it up at wikipedia.

  • Heartbreak Ridge was an actual battle fought by soldier's of the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean War and the General did say "Well if this battle doesn't kill us it will sure break our hearts". All wars no matter how small they may look from the outside people still die so remember things aren't always what they seem.

  • fuck yiou

  • Everybody should know that The Korean War was and will never be a police action, because it saw some of the most heavy fighting of all the war's that Britain and America has ever fought.

  • I'm Not Sure if I'm Gonna Make it Back to the Battlefield LOL!

  • As a Veteran, I love both versions of the song. Granted I'm not a veteran of the Korean war, but I've heard that both are good from the vets of that "Forgotten War"

  • This ver is much worse...

  • I actually like this version better than the one Clint used...good job

  • Well, considering the fact that the Korean War hasn't ended and the fact that this song didn't come out until 1961(cease fire/1953), homes didn't fuck up. He just put a nice song to go along with some shitty stuff that our fighting men/women had to do continue. The song, with the intro, is brilliant, but if you want to be "technical", it shouldn't be there in the first place. It came out 8 yrs. later. So just enjoy.

  • yeah homes you fucked it up. the original was better.

  • The original music was Don Gibson, but it was a very low key guitar only version.

  • I would like to hear the original version, but don't seem to find it here on Youtube.

  • If you want to hear the original version just watch Heartbreak Ridge (The opening sequence of the movie)

  • I will post the original version so people can decide for themselves which one they like better. Again, I obviously did not create the song nor oompile the war footage I just overlayed a different version of the song cause I like it better!

"War would be difficult to accept at any moment; the song captures the essence of the feelings most people would experience."

  • thanks, vinnie

  • Its available now. "Heartbreak Ridge Intro"

  • Maybe just maybe you should have left the original music......just a thought I like don gibson though :0)
